25. Chapter 24

When Justin got downstairs, he noticed Liam sitting alone on one of the couches. He glanced back up at the stairs to make sure that Audrey wasn't coming down. He knew she wouldn't. Then he looked back at Liam who was making eye contact with him now.

"I see your legs work now." Liam smirked.

Justin stuck his hands in his pockets and rolled his eyes. "Whatever. You wanna walk around for a little bit?"

Liam raised an eyebrow. "Sure." He set his beer down on the coffee table and got up. "What happened?"

"I'll tell you later." Justin mumbled as they made their way out the front door. Before they left he heard footsteps from the stairs and he knew it was Audrey coming down. Probably going to Avery's room. He rubbed his face with his hands and then put his hood up.

"Okay, can you tell me now?" Liam asked. They were walking in the middle of the road and Justin had no clue where they were going. He just wanted to get away for some reason.

"Ah...I guess." Justin said. "Audrey thinks I'm going to hurt her."

"Well you are scary."

Justin shot Liam a glare and he put his hands up in mock surrender.

"I don't know why she just thought about that. She knows I wouldn't hurt her." Justin said quietly as he kicked a rock.

Liam shrugged. "Kaiden was like that once."

Justin furrowed his eyebrows. "Why? She's killed someone before."

"Doesn't mean she's happy about it."

Justin nodded. He knew that most of the guys and the girls didn't like killing people, but they had to do it if they wanted to live. They walked in silence for about a moment until they heard the sound of a stick breaking. Justin whipped his head around to see Audrey standing there.

"What the fuck are you doing?" He asked.

Audrey's expression stayed straight. "Following you."

"And why do you think that's a good idea?" Justin crossed his arms.

"I just wanted to see if you were okay." She said quietly. Justin laughed harshly and shook his head.

"I know that's bullshit," He spat. "Why would you follow me if you think I'm going to kill you? Huh?"

Audrey winced. "I don't think that."

"You think everybody's going to hurt you at one point or another. Can't you just accept the fact that nice people exist?"

"Justin-"

"Go home Audrey." Justin started to turn around, but when he didn't hear Audrey's footsteps he glanced back at her again. "I said go home! Get the fuck away from me, I don't want to see you right now!"

Liam placed a hand on Justin's shoulder. "Hey man, don't yell at her like that. It's not cool."

"I couldn't care less if it's cool or not! I'm fucking pissed and I don't want to look at her, and I don't want to talk to her."

Liam glanced at Audrey with a look of sympathy. She sniffled and wiped away a tear.

"Audrey, its okay." Liam said quietly. Audrey shook her head.

"No I'll just go home. It's fine."

Liam took his hand off Justin's shoulder, who was still turned around, and nodded. Audrey gave a weak smile before she slowly started to walk back towards the house. Justin insisted on walking further, and when Liam agreed--a loud bang was heard.

Justin's eyes widened and he looked back at Audrey, who was now running towards them. At first he thought that she was the one who was shot, but by the way she was running he knew it wasn't her. And then he looked at Liam.

His eyes were wide. There was a light trickle of blood going down the front of his shirt which started to become more than a trickle. Liam slowly brought his hand up to his chest, and when it came away red, he collapsed.

Justin heard Audrey yell, but he didn't know what she was saying. He felt numb, looking at Liam on the ground with a pool of blood forming around him. He knelt down beside him and felt Liam's pulse. It was slowly fading and Justin started to panic.

"Justin!" Audrey shook his shoulder and he looked up at her. "We have to do something!"

He tightened his jaw. Just because Liam was slowly dying didn't mean he wasn't still mad at Audrey. He turned to look at her again.

"Go get everybody from the house and bring them here," He said. "If I try to carry him back he'll only lose more blood."

Audrey stood there.

"GO GET EVERYBODY! TELL SOMEONE TO BRING SOMETHING, ANYTHING, I DON'T CARE WHAT IT IS JUST GET IT!" He screamed. He figured that at any normal time, Audrey would've cried, but she was wise enough not to. She nodded and ran off in the opposite direction.

Justin quickly took off his sweat shirt, and shirt, and then he took Liam's shirt off and pressed it around the bullet wound to slow the bleeding.

"You'll be okay," Justin's voice was hoarse and he tried not to cry. Liam was his best friend. Since the beginning of all the gang stuff, Liam was there with him. He'd be empty if he woke up every morning and Liam wasn't there.

Liam turned his head and looked up at Justin with his eyes halfway closed. "No I won't."

Justin frowned. "Don't say that."

Liam wrapped his and around Justin's wrist. "Don't act like you're surprised, then. This is going to happen to all of us eventually, I was just lucky enough to be first."

Justin managed to give a small smile. "None of us want you to go."

"I don't want to leave," He answered. "Where's...Kaiden?"

Justin froze. He hoped Audrey would be here with everyone soon. He glanced back the way she ran and there was nothing there. He looked down at Liam again.

"She's coming." Justin said weakly. "Don't worry."

"It's okay if she doesn't make it here." Liam whispered. "I don't want her to see me like this."

"I know."

Liam turned his head one more time to look up at Justin again. "I want you to be nice to Audrey." he said. "Don't yell at her all the time."

Justin nodded.

"You're too loud when you yell. It hurts everybody's ears."

Justin managed a smile. "Sorry."

"Hey don't worry about it." Liam smiled as well. "I'll be waiting for you to yell at me in Hell. Everybody else is going to be fucking quiet and I can't wait 'till you come to yell at me."

Justin laughed. "If you want me to yell at you in Hell, I will."

"Good."

There was a long silence. Justin thought that he was dead, but his pulse was still going. He started to hear running and he knew that Audrey had done what he asked for. They weren't going to make it, though.

"Liam?"

"Yeah?"

"Do you mind if I find the fucker who did this and rip them to shreds?"

"No, I don't mind." Liam closed his eyes. "Just make sure you do a good job."

"I will."

"Goodbye Justin."

Justin looked down so he wouldn't cry. "See ya later bro."

And then it was quiet. Justin slowly hoisted himself off the ground and grabbed his sweatshirt. He'd used his shirt and Liam's to stop the bleeding, but it didn't work. Now he was shirtless, cold, and devastated. Not that it mattered, though. He felt like he deserved to suffer after letting Liam die.

He saw Audrey running up to him with Ethan, Brandon, Austin, Avery, Kaiden, Veronica, Seth, and Claire behind her. When she stopped in front of him, Kaiden screamed and ran over to Liam.

"I...did what you asked. Seth has stuff and--"

Justin held his hand up. "You're too late."

Audrey looked up at him for a moment and then she put her head down and started to cry. "It's all my fault." She mumbled.

"Maybe it is." He said coldly. "If you wouldn't have followed us, maybe he wouldn't have gotten shot."

Audrey narrowed her eyes. "What?"

"Whoever shot that bullet wasn't aiming for Liam," Justin spat and pointed a finger at her. "They were aiming for you." He pushed past her. "And now Liam's gone. So yes, it's your fault."

Audrey's eyes followed him as he started to walk away.

As he passed Ethan and Brandon he said, "Help Seth bring Liam back to the house. And then take the body anywhere. I don't care where, just get it out of my sight." They nodded and ran off towards Liam.

The last thing Justin heard as he numbly walked back to the house was Audrey's quiet sobs behind him, and Kaiden's screams.
