15. Chapter 14

The moment they stepped through the door, Justin bounded up the steps to his bedroom and slammed the door behind him. Audrey took that as a hint to not bother him, so she turned to the living room and found that the only people left were Avery and Seth. Liam and Kaiden had disappeared, so had Claire, Veronica and Austin, and Brandon and Ethan probably went to hide in their bedrooms.

Avery noticed the sad look on Audrey's face and decided to invite her over to sit with them. Audrey hesitantly agreed to her offer and sat on the empty bar stool next to her.

"Where'd you go? We were so worried." Avery said, placing a hand on Audrey's back.

Audrey, not wanting to give away all the details, said, "I just kind of blacked out and woke up back at my aunt's place. I don't know how I got there, but Justin came and got me."

"Oh honey, I'm sorry." Avery was the only one besides Justin who knew about her abusive aunt, and Audrey was glad that she did. She needed somebody to talk to when it was necessary.

"It's fine. Justin seems really mad and I have no idea why?"

Avery glanced over at Seth with a pained expression before turning back to Audrey. "He get's like that. He just yelled at everyone for what Claire said to you, and it was horrible. He always yells and it's the worst. We all have no clue why he does what he does. He's just naturally angry all the time I guess."

Audrey wanted to say: but he can be so sweet! Though, she knew she couldn't let anybody know that she was starting to get more attracted to Justin, so instead she just shrugged.

"Does he make you uncomfortable? Because if he does, you can stay in my room." Avery suggested, and Audrey's eyes widened. Avery laughed. "Honey we all know that you're staying in Justin's room, you don't have to be alarmed."

"Don't worry about it, he keeps girls in his room all the time." Seth said. Even though his comment made Audrey feel like shit, she still thought he was super cute. Avery smacked him.

"Do you want to stay with me?" Avery asked with a smile. Audrey smiled faintly before nodding. Avery sat up straight and hopped off the bar stool. She turned around and placed a kiss on Seth's cheek before skipping into the kitchen and over to a door in the corner.

"This is the door to the basement. My room is in the first door," Avery said cheerfully. "You can head up to Justin's room and grab some of those clothes we got and bring them down. I'll wait for you."

Audrey nodded and Avery disappeared down the stairs. Audrey looked over at Seth who was now hunched over the counter, drinking a beer, and she sat on the bar stool next to him. He looked up at her for a second.

"I know it's not my place, but are you and Avery together?" Audrey asked quietly. Seth stared at her for another moment until he shook his head.

"No," his voice was hoarse. It sounded like he'd been crying, but that was just his normal voice. "I wish."

"You should talk to her about it, I think she likes you."

Seth's eyes lit up and he nodded. Audrey slid down off the stool and padded over to the stairs. She glanced at Seth one more time before bounding up the stairs and over to Justin's room. She took a deep breath before slowly opening the door.

The sight that greeted her made her heart drop into her stomach.

Justin was hovering over Claire and they were definitely kissing. Before Audrey could shed tears, she quietly gagged, causing Justin to stop and look back at her. His eyes grew big for a moment and they made eye contact. That moment quickly passed, though, and he returned to sucking Claire's face.

Audrey wiped away a tear and quietly grabbed some clothes from the closet. She didn't dare look at Justin and Claire as she walked out and it was only about a second before she was in the basement. When she opened up the first door, sure enough she saw Avery sitting with her legs crossed on her bed reading a magazine.

Avery looked up and her happy expression immediately changed when she saw Audrey. Apparently, Audrey had been crying on the way down, and from Avery's words: 'she looked like a mess.' Avery held out her arms and Audrey gladly accepted her offer.

They sat like that for a while, and just as Audrey's eyes started to close, there was a knock on the door.

"Come in," Avery yelled. The door opened and since Audrey's eyes were still shut, she didn't know who it was until they spoke.

"Can I talk to Audrey alone?" It was Justin.

"No, she doesn't want to talk to you." Avery said.

"You can't speak for her, Avery." Justin's voice started to raise, and Audrey felt Avery flinch. "Let her speak for herself."

Without opening her eyes, Audrey quickly said: "Go away."

"I said, go away." Audrey opened her eyes and glared over at Justin. For a moment he looked hurt, but then his expression showed pure hatred. Justin gave a curt nod before turning around and walking out the door, slamming it shut behind him.

The next thing Audrey knew, she burst into tears. Avery rubbed her back and slowly rocked her back and forth, saying things like: It's okay, it'll be fine, you're fine. And it remind Audrey of Justin the night before, as she slowly started to fall asleep, wondering why nobody loved her anymore, not even Jesse, who was the only one who still loved her. Now she had nobody.
