"Of course. I've waited for you to ask me fore years," Cara's mother grinned when she asked if she could go shopping with her.

She didn't want  to go, but she had no money left, and she still needed a make-over. Usually, she bought her own clothes, the sales at Penny's, but going with Janna meant she'd get everything bought for her.

"Where do you want to go first?" Janna asked, shoving notes into her purse. Her heels clacked on the concrete as she walked towards her car.

"Clothes? I kinda need new things."

"Yes, you do. You need some pretty dresses and skirts, some skinny jeans, and some nice tops." She looked down at Cara's feet. "And shoes. We'll go to Alison's first."

Alison's was the girls' shoe shop in town. It was quite expensive, but money wasn't an issue. Janna worked for a big banking company.

"You need runners for P.E., ballerina flats, heels," Janna muttered, tapping everything she said into her phone. She put the phone down, and clicked her seat belt into place before taking off her shoes. "First rule of heels; never drive in them."

After hours of walking around shops, trying on things that Janna said would look 'just stunning' on her, Cara seriously wanted to go home and take Blue out for a hack. "Can I change my hair?" she blurted out. Janna swung around, her eyes wide.

 "What do you mean?"

"Can I dye it? And get a straightening perm?" She looked at the ground, afraid of the answer.

"Of course! Is there anything else? Manicure? Pedicure?" Janna was already rushing to the check-out, desperate to get to the hair dresser's.

"Manicure, and can I get make-up?" She fiddled with the shopping bags, not meeting Janna's eyes.

 "I'm so proud of you!"

Dan's horse truck drove over the gravel, sending dust everywhere. Cara grinned and wobbled to the front door - she wasn't used to wearing heels- fixing her new high waist, denim skirt and straightening her blouse.

"Hi." Dan said, smiling in a friendly way. "Is Cara here? She lives in that house."

"Dan? It's me." He took a double take, and his mouth formed an 'O' shape.

"What happened?" A horse whinnied from inside the horse truck, and stamped its hoof. "Easy, Flower," he called, pulling the bolts.

"Do you not like it?" She stood back, not wanting to fall over while he lowered the ramp.

"You look different, that's all." He led the dappled mare out, and she raised her head high, whinnying loudly, her nostrils flared. Blue cantered up to the gate, and, for one scary moment, Cara thought he was going to jump, but he skid to a stop at the last moment. "You are going to the show, aren't you?"

"Of course. Why wouldn't I?" Then she realised. "Oh, I'm going to wash him later, after I ride. But I'm going to town now. I have someone to meet," she lied. "Mam's inside." And with that, she walked up the drive and towards the church.
