Werewolf and Mermaid at Hogwarts

A mermaid and a werewolf at a school of magic. It sounds kind of... crazy, right? Well, I can assure you, this story is perfectly normal...
If you consider 'normal' being: the mermaid and werewolf becoming friends, meeting the Boy-Who-Lived, facing a horrid person, and finding out their even more different than you could imagine.
...Okay, maybe it isn't so normal...

8. Journey From Platform 9 3/4 (Coraline)

~September 1st~

"Coraline! Get your trunk packed sweety!" I heard Mum shout.
I groaned and turned my head over, my pillow covering my ears. But then, my mind processed what she said.
   "Hogwarts!" I whisper-yelled.
   I immediatly woke up.
"Coraline! You better not be lazing around, young lady!" Mum yelled from behind my door.
"I'm packing!" I yelled, jumping up. The coldness of the room hit me. "Packing with a blanket!"
I wrapped my blanket around myself, then grabbed the hand-me-down books, and put them neatly into my trunk, A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot on top (which I had already read, along with all the other books).
Next, I put in my clothes in on the side of my books, my robe for Hogwarts on top.
After that, I tucked my wand in my sleeve, just in case I needed it.
"Coraline, are you almost done?" Mum yelled.
"Will be in a moment, Mum!" I said, getting all my necessties packed. After that, I did my normal morning routine, and made my way downstairs.
"Good, atleast you got ready today, Coraline." Mum said, gesturing to Milly and Mikeal, who were half asleep and still in their pajamas. I laughed a little, but then remembered something.
   Ruby was still upstairs.
I ran up to get my owl, and the twins were staring at me, wondering what I was doing.
I grabbed the cage of the pure black but red-eyed owl, then ran back downstairs. Milly and Mikeal were gone (Mum probably sent them to get ready), but now Ian was there.
He smirked and said, "Yo, skyscraper, know what time we're leavin'?"
This time it was my turn to smirk. "Oh, if your waiting for the 'I'm-totally-going-to-kick-your-butt-in-school train, it left about a month ago."
Ian glared at me, than sighed. "But really, what time are we leaving?"
   "Couple of minutes."
   "Alright, we're leaving!"
   "Correction: Right now."
"Alright, head count!" Mum yelled, pointing at each of is and counting almost silently. "Good!"
We went up to a ticket stand, and I heard Mum whisper, "Five tickets to Platform 9 3/4." and hand the man ten silver coins (Sickleons, I think they were called).
The man handed her the tickets, and we left.
Now I wanted to ask Mum something, but I would be in so much trouble if I were caught eavesdropping again (don't ask), and my siblings wouldn't be much help, so, all in all, odds were against me.
On the other hand, Mum should know that it's not my fault that I have such sensitive hearing, so she couldn't full-heartedly blame me for it...
Then again, my siblings are right in front of me...
   I bumped into Ian's back.
Huh... guess they were closer in front of me than I thought...
"Watch it!" Ian yelled, which attracted some attention.
After a while of people staring at us, I finally got the guts to say: "Move along, people, nothin' to see here!"
Everyone went on with what they were doing, and Ian and I glared at each other one last time, then started heading to a platform.
   Platforms nine and ten...
   "Mum, where's platform 9 3/4?" I asked.
Mum looked at me, you know, that look that says 'Really?'
She sighed and shook her head, and I was wondering if I had said something bad, like something about You-Know-Who. I had just learned about him a couple of weeks ago, yet just thinking about what he did to people...
"Tyrone, will you show Coraline how to get though to the platform?"
Tyrone nodded, then started running towards a solid brick wall.
I was going to scream at him that he was crazy and to stop, when...
   He dissapeared.
I looked around, then figured it out.
   You run though the wall.
"So, is there a spell for it?" I asked Mum.
"No, you just run through the wall." Mum whispered. "Do you want to go next?"
I nodded my head, wanting to get this overwith.
I set my cart thing with my trunk so I would have to run straight to the wall. Then, I looked straight at the wall, closed my eyes and ran.
I got a slightly tingly feeling, I assumed from the magic in the wall.
The tingly feeling wore off, and I opened my eyes. The first thing I saw was a huge scarlet train, which I assumed we would be taking to Hogwarts.
   Ian appeared next to me.
"Pretty sweet, huh?" he asked. I nodded in reply. "Well, we better move out of the way."
We started walking forward, me never taking my eyes off the train.
Soon, Mum, Rachel, Mikeal and Milly were through the portal and we were helping each other put up our trunks. I got my own compartment in the first year part of the train. Ian sat with some of his Slytherin buddies, and Rachel and Tyrone went to sit with her Ravenclaw friends, and the twins went to their Hufflepuff mates.
I hugged Mum one last time, then she had to leave before it got too crowded.
"Bye, Mum. I'll miss you." I said, on the verge of tears.
"Goodbye, sweetheart. Don't forget to write!" she replied, kissing me on the forehead like she did when I was younger.
   "I won't!"
   And she left.
"Excuse me, can I sit here? Everywhere else is- Coraline?"
I turned around to see the familiar short-haired girl from Diagon Alley.
"Kayla?" I asked. "Sure, you can sit."
She came in and sat across from me.
Through about three-quarters of the time of the train ride, Kayla and I talked about all the things we had in common. We had the same favorite song (Just Give Me A Reason), and the same favorite color, and that's not even the beginning of it.
Then, two girls came in, both with bushy hair and slightly long teeth. They must've been related.
"Have either of you seen a toad?" One of them asked.
"Neville's lost one." the other one stated.
   "Sorry, no." I stated.
qp   The first one sighed, then said, "Alright. By the way, I'm Hermione Granger-"
   "And I'm Sophia Granger-"
"And you are?" They said together.
   "I'm Coraline Vingarten." I replied.
   "Kayla." Kayla said.
"What's your last name?" Sophia, or is it Hermione, asked.
"Don't have one." she stated, though I could see the message from it. She had her hands in fists, as if daring the Granger twins to push her.
"Oh, that's too bad. Well, you might want to change into your robes-"
"We expect we'll be arriving soon."
   And with that, they left.
We sat in silence for a couple of minutes, then Kayla said, "Well, might as well put on our robes." Then she shut the blinds and locked the door.
   We started changing.
   "Look! It's Hogwarts!"
