77. He's Worried About You & Reads Your Journal

Niall (Age 14): He noticed you were off your food, to start with. You had been feeding him your leftovers all week, slowly edging more and more towards his plate. He could tell you didn’t want to talk, so while you were at school, he snuck into your room and found the tiny diary you kept in your drawer. As soon as he read the first few lines he knew he was out of his depth.

'I hate Stephen. I totally love him but I'm not ready for sex! But he'll dump me if I say no! My friends say I should grow up and just do it but I really don't want to, and I'm scared. I don't know what to do.'

Niall sighed, and as he finished reading, he noticed you stood there.

"Don’t tell mum…" you said. He nodded, patting next to him.

"I won’t, but…(Y/N), don’t do anything you don’t want to do. He sounds like a horrible guy if he is trying to force you into something you don’t want, so I’d stay away. Trust me!" he said, hugging you. You nodded and said you’d dump Stephen tomorrow.

Zayn (age 6): When Zayn saw you scribbling in a notebook, tears forming in your eyes and lip quivering,  he knew he wanted to see what it was that you were drawing. He found the notebook and saw a picture inside, of you, sat on your own, and your parents, Zayn and your sisters all together, smiling. Underneath, you had written, ‘My family doesn’t love me.’

Zayn found you on a swing in your garden, and saw your frown again.

"I saw your drawing, (Y/N)." He said, and you pouted.

"It’s not true, we all love you loads! How can you think any different?"

"Mum and dad are always busy at their jobs, and everyone likes your singing, and the girls have lots of friends, and II am boring." you say, crossing your arms.

Zayn suddenly lifts you from the swing, taking you indoors. “That’s not true. Now, why don’t we go and do another drawing together, of all of us together?” he said, smiling at you.

Louis (Age 21): Since your twin left home, you had felt wrong. As twins, you often experienced the same thoughts and feelings, and spent a lot of time together, even as teenagers. Of course, when he left home for London and the tour, you felt like the other half of you was missing. He had abandoned you, you thought.

It was Christmas, and Louis was finally home. You were ecstatic to have your twin back, and he was equally happy to have you by his side, both annoying your mother and saying the same thing at the same time.

"(Y/N), can I borrow a book from your shelf?" he asks, and you nod. As he makes his way to your bookshelf, he notices a book he had been meaning to read, but was confused when he saw that the pages were blank of the text which should be in there, instead full of handwritten thoughts and feelings. He knew he shouldn’t, but he had a peek in. The page he landed on explained how much you missed him, and how he had left you here alone, and his heart fell.

(Y/N), can you come up here a minute?” he asked, and you made your way upstairs. “I accidentally read some of your diary, I’m sorry…” you punched his arm, knowing that he didn’t mean to. “I just want you to know that when we’re apart I feel the same! Us twinnies should never be so far away all the time. I’ll see what I can do and maybe you can come on tour with us some time?” he said, hugging you.

Liam (age 17): Liam knew you weren’t OK. You tried to hide it, but he’d seen the faint scars and the attempts at covering them up, and he knew you had been self-harming. He knew it was wrong, but he found your diary, simply trying to find out why you did it, and his heart broke when he read about how depressed you were.

He went online and did some research on self-harm and depression, and sat you down in his apartment, away from your parents, so you could really talk to him.

"(Y/N), I don’t want you to feel pressured about it, but I know you’ve been injuring yourself…" he whispered, and you withdrew into your chair.

"It’s none of your business."

"You’re right, and I know I can’t make you stop, but all I want to do, is tell you- be careful, as I don’t want you to get an infection in a wound and be in more trouble. And I want you to know that you can always talk to me, and our parents if you want to. If there’s anyway I can stop you, I will, but it’s all down to you…" He had to hope his little speech made any impact.

You burst into tears, and he encased you in a brotherly hug. “I am so scared, I didn’t know what else to do….but I’ll try to stop, and talk to you…I promise.”

Harry (Age 20): “You haven’t shown me your lyrics in ages, (Y/N)!” says Harry, stood at your door as you write in your lyric book.

"They’re private, Harold." you say, keeping it lighthearted as you closed the book. Your lyrics these days were less happy than they once were, and you didn’t want your brother to worry about you.

He didn’t take the bait, and thought you were teasing him. “Let me see, big sis!” he said, jumping onto your bed and swiping the book. He climbed onto your desk, so you couldn’t reach him to get it back. Always the annoying little brother.

He was about to say your lyrics aloud, but when he realised you were writing about being thin, hating your body, and feeling unloved, he closed the book and gave it back to you.

"Harry…" you start, but as he sits back down on your bed, he frowned.

"You’re anorexic?" he said, finally noticing how much weight you had lost recently.

"Bulimic… please don’t tell anyone. And don’t worry about me, I’m the older one!" you replied, staring at the ground.

"Well, I won’t…but you do need to get help. And I refuse to stop worrying until you do. You don’t need to change your body, you’re beautiful how you are, (Y/N)." he said, as you sat beside him. "We’ll get this sorted, OK?"

You looked at him, afraid but glad you had your brother to lean on for support.
