10. The Kidnap

THE LUNCH WENT ABSOLUTELY FINE BUT I HAD SEEN THE LOOK IN DELILAH’S EYE AND DECIDED SHE WAS UP TO SOMETHING. After we had eaten, there was still some time before we had to go to school. We went back into Danny’s bedroom and decided several things:

1)We couldn’t let Delilah know what we were planning

2)The sooner we got out of the house the better

3) As soon as we got back to school, we would let our master know what Delilah was doing

4)We would go to the warehouse to hide after the end of school

After making the list, we all stood up together and went downstairs.

“We’re going back to school now mum.” Danny yelled as we walked through the door.

“Have a good afternoon sweetheart, I’ll see you later.” Delilah called back.

Then we were out of the door and on our way back to school. As we walked, the others were dancing happily but I couldn't help but think that she had let us go too easily and I was right. We were just reaching the edge of the main town when I felt someone behind me. I sucked in my breath to scream but a hand was quickly shoved across my mouth. Pressure was applied to a point just below my right shoulder and the world span away from me and I toppled to the ground…

When I woke up, I was on the other side of the planet in a small tent. I was frightened. I wanted to know where I was and how to get back to my friends. I needed to know who had taken me, although I had a pretty good idea who it was and find a way to contact my master. I had to be safe. Suddenly, I heard the zipper being slowly undone and a leg appeared, followed by the rest of the body.

Delilah stood there smiling coldly at me “I bet you’re wondering why I took you, betrayed my people and all those other things but I don’t have time for your waffling so zip it. I was going to take you anyway but I wasn’t planning on it being so soon. You and your little friends couldn’t tell your master that it was me that was betraying the planet before I took you.”

“But why did you take me now? Surely you just revealed yourself to him?” I ventured timidly

“Silence. I have my reasons. Now eat some food. We have a long journey ahead of us.” She said sharply then turned on her heel and marched out of the tent.

I sat there and cried my heart out. The woman who had cared for me like a mother actually hated me. I was far away from love and I hated it. I cried until I had no tears left and I felt sick. I curled myself into a ball and, exhausted, lapsed into a deep sleep…

I was woken by a sharp pain in my side. A big brown boot was kicking me hard in the ribs. A gruff voice was telling me to get up, get going. I rolled up into a sitting position and was lifted into the air. Flinching from the bright sunlight, I was carried to a horse and cart and shoved roughly into the back. It was then shut on top of me and I was in complete darkness.

The ride was bumpy for about an hour and then the horse stopped. I felt it lifting upwards and felt something snap inside of me. I pushed out the fright that I was feeling and, somehow, managed to blow the back off. I leapt out of the cart and ran as fast as I could, which had increased considerably in the last five minutes, to get away from my captors and back home.

I knew there was no way they would catch me but even so I was still scared. Finally, exhausted, I reached the little white cottage. There was no way that Delilah would be coming back here and even if she did she wouldn't think to look for me here. I ran upstairs to my bedroom and fell fast asleep…

Several hours later, I awoke with a start. Someone was calling my name! I went over to the window and saw what looked like the whole population of Starre out searching for me. I knew I had to go out and tell them I was back but for some reason I couldn't move.

“It was far too easy to sneak back in with the whole town looking for you.”

“Delilah.” I said turning round slowly

“Yes sweetie.” She replied in a sickeningly sweet voice

“Get out of my bedroom.” I forced out through clenched teeth

And then I pushed out with my hands and blew her over. I held one hand out over her throat and stopped the air flowing through her windpipe.

“And after you have got out of my bedroom you can leave the planet and tell whoever you’re working for that this planet is protected. Now leave us alone.” I said in a menacing tone, releasing her wind pipe.

She scurried out of the room as I collapsed on the floor. I was so tired that I fell asleep again…

When I woke up it was dark. I was no longer in my bedroom but in a forest. This had to be a dream. There was only one forest in Starre and it was on the other side of town. A shining light worked its way through the trees. I squinted as I tried to define what it was.

“Hello Kara, my brave one.” A beautiful voice came from the light, one that made me want to curl into its warmth.

“Who are you?” I asked

“You will find out soon enough young one but now is not that time. I have come to deliver a warning. Delilah will be back and when she is, she will not be alone. She is the one destined to release the Key but now she is no longer loyal she will force her daughter to release it instead. Also, it has been five years since your disappearance. Your body decided to hide itself and have a sort of upgrade I think. You must explain what I have said to your master and none other and protect Danny at all costs! And….”

Then the world slipped from underneath my feet and I fell screaming.
