1. Author Interviews:

LittleMsHollywood:

Name or nickname: Bryony. AKA: Bry, LMH, Holly, Hollywood, Sofia, LilMs On Movellas since: 13th of June 2012

Age: 15, though I'll be 16 in early/mid September

Who is your role model (does not have to be a writer)? I have a lot of role models. Tina Guo, Michael Jackson, Jean Sok, Felix Cane, Jory Steinberg, Desiree Basset, Elizabeth Taylor...pretty much anyone who's done a lot for the world.

How did you get into writing? I've always liked it, and I've always been good at it, so I just went for it, and started writing. Mainly I wrote fanfics, until about the age of 12, when I wrote original works.

How did you discover movellas? It was my year 9 English teacher who told me about here. I logged on...and I never looked back.

Favourite story by another author on movellas? Erm...that's hard. I don't really have a favourite.

Favourite story by you? Either ANY one of the Codename books, or Paper Games, as I wrote my heart out for that.

Are you writing because you want to be a writer, because you have nothing to do, or because of another reason? I mainly just wrote for fun, but the 1D invasion made me write to fight back. As I wrote more, I began thinking that I could make a career out of it. Now...well mainly I write to fight back/expose the truth, but also because I could be a writer.

What is your favourite genre to write? If Anti-Fanfiction counts as a genre, then that. If it doesn't...probably Thriller&Horror, as you get to have some fun.

What is your least favourite genre to write? Romance, definitely. It's just...ugh, really confusing, and cliche. Though thanks to the fanfics, it's now overrated.

How did you get your username on Movellas? I've always had a liking for the 20s, especially the birth of Hollywood. Plus...I want to be a star, especially after I first heard my fave song, Hollywood Tonight. It's a little cheesy, but it's my main guilty pleasure. That helped me pick my username.

Can you relate to any characters in any of the stories you've written on Movellas? If so, which one? I can relate to hundreds, but mainly two: the main character of Paper Games, and the original "fun filled little lollipop triple-dipped in psycho", Agent Hollywood.

Do you think Movellas has improved your writing in any way? If yes, explain how. I'd say yes, as it gave me the chance to get honest reviews. Before movellas, I'd ask the kids in my class, and if they hated me (most still do) they'd say it was dreadful, or if they were sucking up to me, they'd call it amazing. Here, people are far more honest.

Do you think the events that happen in your life, such as bullying, impacts your writing? Yes, definitely. I've been bullied tonnes, and I used to self-harm. This makes my writing very dark, or violent. Like it's hidden-in-shadow.

Who would you say your best friend on movellas is? There could be more than one. Erm...I have too many to count. This is the only place I have friends, so I see them all as my best friends.

Your movella, Codename: Fanfics is quite popular. How did you come up with the idea, and did you originally come up with the plan with Diego<3 or did someone make the plot first and then the other joined? I came up with the idea after seeing a comment by the cyber-martyr, Gilray. It was something about unrealistic plots by Directioners, which got me thinking about creating my own unrealistic plot. Thus, the first ever anti-fanfic was born. I ran into some trouble though, and requested a co-author. Diego signed up, and we continued from there.

This was an amazing first interview. I'd like to thank LMH for using her time to answer these questions!

SECOND INTERVIEW!

Lewbob9927:

Name or nickname: My name is Lew (short for Lewis), but I have many nicknames. Mainly ones made by Enya :P

On Movellas since:  November last year, I think

Age: 11 Who is your role model (does not have to be a writer)?  Nobody's gonna know who he is, but Shigeru Miyamoto (it's Japanese)

How did you get into writing?  Well, I read like crazy, and decided to write something!

How did you discover movellas? Watching Bry (AKA LittleMsHollywood)

Favourite story by another author on movellas? Hmmm... There are a lot.. I'll say "One Direction At Forty Thousand Feet (which is by LMH. It's not a fanfic, it's about 1D reading them. And being horrified)

Favourite story by you? A Will To Fly, because its my first original one

Are you writing because you want to be a writer, because you have nothing to do, or because of another reason? I don't want to be a writer (A radio DJ or a Game Maker). I guess just I have nothing to do.

What is your favourite genre to write? Fantasy, no question there

What is your least favourite genre to write? Hmm... Realism. I hate being held by the shackles of reality.

How did you get your username on Movellas? It's a long story, but I was signing up on Lego Universe. I made my Lego ID lewbob, and it put numbers at the end. I decided that would be my online name

Can you relate to any characters in any of the stories you've written on Movellas? If so, which one? Probably Sam in A Will To Fly.

Do you think Movellas has improved your writing in any way? If yes, explain how. It gets me into a community that cares less about who's going out with who, and who fancies who, and lets me talk about thing I like. In this case, books.

Do you think the events that happen in your life, such as bullying, impacts your writing? Well, my dad effects it. By turning the wifi off :P

Who would you say your best friend on movellas is? There could be more than one. Probably Enya and LMH

Seeing that you have 2 movellas based on/about Mine craft, would you say you're a big fan?  If yes, how did you get the idea of writing about Minecraft? I like the idea of how anything can happen, and turned some of the events that I have seen and have happened to me in the game to words.

Another amazing interview, this time from Lew :) Thanks for your time, Lew :)

Last but not least...

 さくら❀:

Name or nickname: Sakura, Curry, Katie

On Movellas since: September 6, 2012

Age: 18

Who is your role model (does not have to be a writer)? Audrey Hepburn. She exudes elegance.

How did you get into writing? I was writing a lot for college essays last year, and I realized how much I enjoyed creative writing. I was always pretty good at essay writing but I hadn't creatively written in several years.

How did you discover movellas? Runescape was sponsoring a competition and I joined movellas, wrote a bit, left for about a month, and then returned. When I returned, I stayed for good.

Favourite story by another author on movellas?  Anything by Diego<3, aka the talented Lia Payne.

Favourite story by you?  Right now it would have to be Cinderfella, just because that story holds actual semblance of structure. I'm reworking Victoriana a lot, so it's all jumbled.

Are you writing because you want to be a writer, because you have nothing to do, or because of another reason?    I write to deal with frustrations and trauma in my life, as well as to play with wordplay. I thinly mask things that happen to me through stories, but I also explore things I haven't experienced in others. I write to create, to play god, but also to live vicariously through my characters.

What is your favourite genre to write?    Romance! I love writing about love.

What is your least favourite genre to write?    Fanfiction, honestly. I feel like I'm piggy-backing off of something and I try to steer clear of it.

How did you get your username on Movellas?   Sakura has always been my "character" on the internet, a girl with pink hair. It was my name in Japanese class, so it just felt right to extend that to movellas. I drew my avatar, by the way.

Can you relate to any characters in any of the stories you've written on Movellas? If so, which one?   Many. To create a character, most often I take a characteristic of myself and exaggerate it, or a situation I'm in and exaggerate. I end up being able to relate to all my characters. Perhaps that's how I should improve, by creating a character that I think I may struggle to relate to, but others will understand better.

Do you think Movellas has improved your writing in any way? If yes, explain how.   Absolutely. I'm trying to improve my dialogue now, I did a lot of work on descriptions and literary motifs this year and now I'm working with flow. I also tend to lapse into the easy first-person limited viewpoint, and I think deviating from that a little might be easier.

Do you think the events that happen in your life, such as bullying, impacts your writing?   Absolutely. My works sometimes deal with disfunctionality, with love, with bullying, with stereotyping, with racism. I'm also known for my satirical works that point out the flaws in movellas and fan fictions here, channeling rage. All of these I've experienced to some degree, and I try to capture the emotions in my writing.

Who would you say your best friend on movellas is? There could be more than one.  Many. Jess (The Girl Next Door), Rhiannon (IceCream Girl), Lia (Diego<3), Midnight Rogue, Enya Sanders and Uncle Mitchy Kay. These are the people I feel closest to.

How did you get into manga:  I was ten, and I saw an AMV for Tokyo Mew Mew. I started watching a lot of anime and reading a lot of manga, and finally I got frustrated when I couldn't find a story that I really wanted to read, so I started writing my own stories and drawing them.

For Victoriana, how did you get the plot?  Ok this is a bit of a long story. Victoriana was started 4 years ago when I wanted to write a story about a Japanese girl who was bullied because she was smart,  and then went back to Victorian England and stuff. It didn't flow too well.

^ I drew that when I was fourteen. That was my idea for the first cover haha.  Anyway, to put it bluntly, it was very poorly done, Ai as a character wasn't very fleshed out. So after drawing out several pages, which I've shown in my behind the scenes here: http://www.movellas.com/book/read/201304141441435235

I put it on the back burner.

After about two years of studying Japanese, going to Japan on home stay, and studying AP Euro, I knew where I wanted to go with the story. Although I'm currently editing and reworking it, I know what I want the final result to be. I made Ai half Japanese, caught between two worlds. She is neither fully Japanese nor fully English, and though at first she just wants approval from others, she learns that the only approval she needs is from herself. I really wanted to capture that sort of character growth, from depending on others for happiness, to learning how to be happy for yourself.

What are you planning to do in Japan: I'm going to be studying language classes at the CIEE headquarters on Sophia University campus, which is really exciting. Initially, before I knew what I wanted to do, I thought I'd want to study abroad at Sophia University, but then decided to study architecture at Cornell. It's like I'm getting the best of both worlds. Also, while I'm abroad, I'll be blogging as an intern for the CIEE, sharing photos and my experiences. I also hope to keep a sketchbook of interesting architecture, and watercolor paint a bit of landscape. So I'll be pretty busy! I also want to learn calligraphy and volunteer to teach English.
