25. 'mind him.'

Jessica’s POV

I sat up, holding the towel in my hand as I wiped all the gel off my stomach. I pulled my shirt down and looked over at Christian who was smiling at me.

I smiled back and swung my legs over to the side of the small hospital bed. The doctor walked in, taking off his rubber gloves.

‘Well, Miss. Hillel, your baby is healthy.’ He started, causing me to grin widely.

‘Would you like to take an ultrasound picture?’ he said, rising his eyebrows.

‘Yes please.’ I squealed, excited to see my baby.

He smiled at me, before turning around again and leaving the room. I got off the bed, leaving the towel there, and making my way to Christian.

‘Aye this is exciting.’ He said, smiling at me again.

‘Definitely.’ I said, immediately thinking of Justin.

Every time I thought of the baby, I thought about Justin. I sighed and Christian noticed my sudden change of heart so he pulled me into a hug.

‘Aye, I know you’re thinking of him, but don’t. He doesn’t deserve your thoughts.’ He whispered, attempting to calm me down.

I nodded and took a deep breath. I was just in time, because the doctor walked in with an envelope. I smiled at him as he handed it to me and said

‘Now, Jessica be here in 2 weeks. I’ve heard you have been having a lot of problems that may cause strain on the baby. So come in 2 weeks and we will examine the baby again.’

I nodded and thanked him, before walking out following Christian. We walked back to his car and got in. he pushed the keys into the ignition and looked into the rear-view mirror, before taking down off the street towards his house.

We got out and went to the front door, Christian unlocking it. We walked in and to the living room and sat on the couches, looking at each other.

It should be Justin in Christian’s position, but he chose not to be here. I sighed before a smile plastered my face.

I opened the envelope and pulled out the picture, revealing a small jelly-bean. I smiled and looked at the picture, tears in my eyes.

‘Ha-ha, it’s so small.’ Christian joked, leaning back.

‘Yeah.’ I said, not seeming to get the smile off my face.

I put the picture back into the envelope and got up, beginning to walk to my bedroom.

‘Hey jess, you hungry?’ he asked, causing me to turn around.

‘Yeah actually.’ I said, continuing to walk to my room.

‘Well why don’t we go to a small café? Get ready, we’ll leave in 10?’ he asked.

‘Sure.’ I yelled back, before shutting my door.

I put the envelope carefully on my bed-side table and took off my jacket. I slung my shoulder bag off my shoulder and opened it, taking out my phone.

I deleted Justin’s number, after he called my literally 213 times, leaving 94 voicemails and 260 text messages. It was crazy. I don’t know he didn’t run out of credit.

I unlocked it and looked at the screen. It was 6:19. I had no notifications. I sigh and walked to the closet again, deciding that I should wear something less casual.

I pulled out a black and white Aztec print skater dress with a formal black cardigan. I slipped them on, barely noticing my very small, 2 month baby bump.

I brushed my hair and kept it how it was. I slipped on a pair of black pin-up heels before looking at the final result in the mirror.

I smiled at my reflection, which I was happy with, before picking up a black purse and putting my phone and wallet in it. I ran a hand through my hair and sighed, before hearing Christian call my name.

I walked out and saw Christian standing in the hallway, his hands in the pockets of his gray skinny jeans. He looked quite good, with a dark-blue button-up shirt covering his torso and white high-top converse on his feet.

I smiled and him and looked at him look at me in awe.

‘You look beautiful jess.’ He said, walking up to me and linking arms with me.

‘Thanks Chris, you don’t look too bad yourself.’ He smiled at me, before leading me to his car and getting in. we drove to the nice café on the corner of the main street.

It was not a really fancy restaurant, but it still had that nice atmosphere. Let’s say, it was more advanced than a diner, with red curtains draping over the windows and plush fabric on the chairs in the booths.

Chris and I slid in a booth and I put my bag down on the table. I couldn’t help but think of Justin, his gorgeous brown eyes and his pearly-white teeth, shown when he smiles his wonderful smile.

I sigh as a tear pours down my cheek. I feel Chris take my hand, in a friendly way, and look at me with sad eyes.

‘Stop thinking of him jessy.’ He says, finishing with a pout. I couldn’t help but laugh at his fail attempt of a pout. I took a deep breath.

‘Alright.’ I said, starting a conversation with him.

Justin’s POV

‘I don’t want to go out.’ I said through gritted teeth, as my cousin Dina looked through one of my clothe drawers.

‘Justin, you’ve been down in the dumps for a week now. Let’s just go out and forget about all this.’

‘But how can I forget about my babies.’ I whined, falling back on my bed, tears brimming my eyes.

‘Justin, don’t cry.’ Dina mumbled, walking towards me.

A tear trickled down my cheek as I sat on the edge of my bed, head in my hands.

I felt her hand on my back and looked up, meeting her grayish-blue eyes. Her black hair was pulled back in a poiny-tail and her mouth was formed in a thin line.

‘Fine.’ I said, groaning, ‘I’ll go to dinner with you.’

‘Yay!’ she screeched, jumping off the edge of the bed.

I blocked my ears for a second, before taking them off once she finished screaming. Dina was nineteen, making her 3 years younger than me. She’s always been a little sister to me, and I’ve always protected her.

She’s like the sibling I’ve never had.

She’s knows my runaway situation, as well as the break up. I barely get to see her, as she lives in Chicago.

She gives me a black button-up shirt and a pair of dark-wash jeans. I stand up and take them to the bathroom, slipping them on and chucking my sweats on the floor.

I walk out for her to be holding a black hoodie in front of me.

‘What’s this for?’ I ask, taking the hoodie from her hands.

‘The cops remember?’ she says, in a duh tone. I nod my head and slip it over my head. I walk over to the mirror and look at my reflection. I have bags underneath my eyes, im surprised Dina hasn’t notice-

‘Hey Justin, why do you have bags underneath your eyes.’

Alright, I was wrong.

‘I don’t get sleep I guess.’

‘Justiiinnnnn.’ She whines.

‘What?!’ I asked, a little annoyed by the tone in her voice.

‘Why don’t you get sleep?’

See, Dina has never been in a relationship. She doesn’t understand why I’m acting like this. Why she hasn’t dated yet? She says she wants to be single forever, which I understand, because she’s always been a bit of a loner.

‘I can’t sleep without Jessica.’  I mumble, fixing my hair in places.

‘Oh.’ She replies, before slipping on her heels.

‘Why do we have to be all fancy?’ I ask, changing the topic.

‘Well, we are going somewhere nice tonight.’ She says, smiling at me.

‘Well you ready?’ I ask, about to walk out the door.

‘Yep.’ She replies, popping the ‘p’ and grabbing her purse.

She follows me downstairs and out the door, towards the car.

‘I wanna drive.’ She says, getting into the drivers seat.

‘Ok.’ I mumble, without arguing with her.

You see, she’s a very persuasive, manipulative and whiny person. If you don’t give her what she wants, she tends to get all angry and she can put up a fight. I have a scar on my arm for a reminder not to disagree with her ever again.

She put the key in the ignition, and started driving towards the main road. She stopped at a parking lot and parked in a space, before we both got out.

I put my hood over my head, and walked behind her to this fancy restaurant. We walked in and slid into a booth, in the left side of a hallway.

On the right side I saw a girl, with her chocolate brown hair in her face talking to this guy. I’ve seen that guy before. I squeezed my eyes shut and started clicking my fingers, trying to think of his name.

‘Justin are you ok?’ Dina asked, reaching across the table and taking my hand.

‘Christian!’ I shouted, getting unwanted attention from nearly everyone in the restaurant.

The guy at the table across from us looked at me, revealing a clear view of his face. Definitely that Christian guy, Jessica’s friend. My eyes traveled to the girl with the brown hair and I froze. She had her mouth wide open and tears welling up in her eyes.

‘Jessica?’ I asked, getting up from the chair and making my way towards her.

‘Justin?’ she breathed out, a tear falling down her cheek.

I wiped it away with my thumb and looked over at Christian who had a mad look on his face. He was mumbling things under his breath, his fingers intertwined together. I turned around to look at Dina, who had her pixie-thin arms crossed over her chest.

‘Justin.’ She grumbled, walking towards me.

‘Mind him.’ She said, taking my hand and starting to drag me.

‘Jessica.’ I breathed out, that being the only thing I could say right now. Seeing her beautiful face lit up my world, sending my heart into a frenzy. I touched her face with my hand before Dina, dragged me out of the restaurant, not letting me speak to her.

Now I will never be able to get her out of my mind.
