16. Apologizes

Louis and I walked out of Drama together holding hands. Mr Smith, the teacher, went home sick and so class was canceled last minute. We walked to Louis' car and he held the door open for me. He got in next and started the car. "Do you wanna go get something to eat?" he asked.

"Yea sure," I said.

"Alright, any requests?" Louis asked as he started driving.

"Nope, I'd be good with anything. Even McDonald's," I joked. Louis laughed and a few minutes later we pulled up in front of a...McDonald's! I laughed even harder.

"You said you'd be good with it," Louis said as he opened the door for me. We ordered and we sat down in a secluded booth. A few minutes later we got our food and we started eating. After we were done we sat just talking and laughing. A while later Louis' phone started going off. He pulled it out and looked at it. "I have to take this, it's Paul," Louis said as he stood up and walked away.

I watched Louis as he talked. His face turned from happy to sad and then to upset very quickly. Then he hung up and walked back over to me. "Hey, what's wrong?" I asked.

"Um, they found who broke into your studio and left you the notes," Louis said as he started cleaning up our trash. I'm guessing that he wanted to go.

"Really? That's great news. Why do you seemed bummed out though?" I asked as he walked out and just got into the car. I got in and he started it up quickly and drove off.

"It's um," Louis stuttered. "It's my ex girlfriend Eleanor."

I had heard the name before. I knew my sister absolutely adored Eleanor. I had seen a few pictures of her, and she was a very pretty girl. But wow. I wouldn't have guessed the person threatening me would be her. She seemed so sweet.

"So where are we going right now?" I asked. Louis sighed.

"El asked to see you. So I'm taking you to the jail she's at. She'll be transferred to a larger prison later on in the week," Louis explained. "But don't worry. You'll be totally safe. I wouldn't let you do this if it wasn't safe," Louis reassured me as he placed his hand on my thigh. I placed my hand on top of his and then he turned his so we were holding hands.

A few minutes later Louis pulled up to the police station where Eleanor was being held. Louis opened both the car and main door open for me. In the lobby of the station we were met my Paul. He shook my hand and led us down a hall and stopped at a door.

"Now Emily, she said she just wants to apologize for what she did. But if you feel uncomfortable in anyway then just come out," Paul said. "There will be a glass wall between you two so you can hear each other but she cant harm you," he explained as he opened the door. "Are you ready?" he asked. I nodded and stepped in. Once I was in he shut the door. Now I was alone.

The room was like what you saw in the movies. There was the glass  wall with the telephone that you could talk to each other with. I room I was in was a dark green color with black tile and florescent lighting. One the other side of the glass, was beige wall with pale orange tile. Yea, let the prisoner's have the room with color. I thought. Just then the door on the other side of the glass opened and Eleanor walked in. He long hair looked like it hadn't been done in awhile and she was covered in dirt. She sat down in the chair and I took my seat also. We picked up the phone at the same time but I waited for her to talk.

"I'm surprised Lou let you come," Eleanor said.

"He wouldn't have let me come if he thought I'd be in danger," I said. Eleanor smirked.

"Yea he was always protective. But in the good way. I love him," she said. I shifted uncomfortably in my chair.

"Let's talk about the real reason I'm here instead of you swooning over my boyfriend," I said emphasizing that Louis was now mine.

"And what is the real reason your here?" she asked. "Because you think I'm going to apologize for scaring you and destroying you pathetic apartment?" she asked as she leaned forward closer to the glass. She tapped her finger on it and I could faintly hear the tap tap tap of it through the thick glass.

"Well yes," I said. Eleanor only laughed and with her free hand pulled something out of her pocket. It was a piece of paper. She slid it through the tiny slot at the base of the glass. I slowly took it.

"Don't look at it here," she warned. "Look at it when your by yourself," she said as she stood up and walked back to the door.

"And why does that matter if I'm by myself?" I asked.

"Because we'll know," was all she said as she walked out of the room. I looked at the paper. Well I was alone now. I unfolded it and read her neat handwriting.

It's not over.

Was all it said.
