21. The Night Flourishes

Abby's POV-

My heart pounded as the seconds Calum took to open the box felt like hours.I let out a faint gasp when my eyes were drawn to the beautiful necklace. My eyes slowly looked over the silver locket. The locker was in the shape of a heart with a small compass on the front. Along the chain was a silver bird.

Calum reached inside the box and pulled the locket out. He opened the locket revealing on the left, a map of the world, on the right, a photo of me and Calum on the beach from last summer.

"This wasn't perfect, but who knows, there may never be a perfect moment. I really hope you like it. I know you plan to see the world. I can't let you get lost in your adventures, so the compass is there to guide your way. I can't risk you getting lost." He paused to chuckle. The continued, "again." We both knew he was referring to last summer when I was in charge of telling directions to the beach and got us hopelessly lost. I couldn't help but laugh at the memory. "I can only hope that I will be by your side during these adventures of yours. Even as just friends, I will always be happy to accompany you on any adventure- no matter how big or small. Abilene, I love you. You don't need to say it back. I don't expect you to just fall for me in the next minute, but I hope with time that you will realize that I will never give up on you. You are my forever, whether I'm yours, or not. I really hope you like the necklace." He walked around to the side of the bed and put the locket around my neck.

My hand instantly went up and held the small, fragile locket. It was perfect. I was speechless. I looked over at Calum, "I.. I don't know what to say.. I love it. It's beautiful. Thank you so much." My hands strayed from the locket when my arms flew around Calum's neck. I realized I was squeezing too tight when I heard Calum gasp for a breath. I let go.

Calums's POV

I don't know what I would've done if she hadn't like the necklace. "I'm so glad you like it."

She exclaimed. "I don't just like it! I love it!" The huge smile on her face and the glimmer in her eyes was the best thing I could ever ask for.

She is so perfect. I couldn't help myself. I pulled her close and kissed her once more, filling the few inches of space between our lips. Abby kissed me back, but soon she pushed me away.

"Calum, no. We can't keep doing this.." She looked at the floor, gathering her thoughts. Soon she turned, her back facing me. "This was a bad idea. Maybe I should go." Abby took a few steps towards my bedroom door while I stood there in shock.

I then walked over to her and lightly grabbed her wrist. "Abilene, please don't go. I promise I will stop kissing you. It's just.... No. I'm sorry. I don't have a good excuse.." I let my head drop. "Just, please don't leave."

She walked out to the living room without saying a word and sat on the couch. "I'm not going anywhere." I walked out and sat on the arm of the couch. She continued, "but I have one condition. You actually have to make me cookies now." She crossed her legs and reached into her bag, pulling out 101 Dalmations.

I smirked, "I suppose I can do that. Put in the movie and I'll start on your cookies, Princess." I got up and walked to the kitchen to start my baking adventure.

                    ~later that night~

"So where would you like to sleep tonight?" She merely shrugged at me. "Okay... The floor anywhere is available. We could pull out the couch. Or just sleep in my bed." I waited while she pondered her options.

She jumped off the couch. "Well, Lord knows your bed is big enough." Then she was off with her bag. I followed her to my room, but by the time I got there, the door was already closed. I tried the handle - locked.

I knocked. "Uhm.. Can I go in my own room please?"

"I'm changing!" She answered from the other side of the door.

"You know, we have a perfectly functioning bathroom that you could do that in?" I smirked knowing she was just trying to be a pain.

Eventually the door unlocked and I opened it to find Abby in MY plaid pajama pants and a nirvana shirt I had seen her wear multiple times before. She looked stunning, like usual. I raised my eyebrow at her. "Are my pants comfy?" She just put her hands in the pockets and shrugged.

I sat down and turned my tv and Playstation on. "Wanna play something?"

She plopped down right next to me, "got Call of Duty?"

   I nodded. "Who doesn't?!"

We spent the rest of the night going back and forth at each other while play COD. Eventually we put the controllers down and turned on some South Park and fell asleep.

I apologize that I have taken so long to write this. I really have been meaning to, but I never get around to it. I suppose you can consider this a late Christmas present to you guys. Merry Christmas. :)
