2. Chapter 2

Brooke's POV:

I woke up to the sound of my phone alarm. I groaned and rolled out of bed and walked to the bathroom to start my shower. I looked at myself in the mirrorand I looked like death. I got into the shower and washed my body and hair and got out, wrapping a towel around me.

Once I had gotten dressed in a pair of white jean shorts and put on my cream colored lacy top and a brown belt. I curled my dark brown hair and put it up in a loose half pony tail. I added some light make up, using my sapphire tinted eyeliner and mascara to really bring out my already piercing blue eyes. I always receive compliments on my eyes, I get the color from my dad.

I grabbed my back pack and slipped on a pair of white flip flops since it was still very warm out seeing as it’s only August.

I walked down the stairs to see my mother making herself a cup of tea like she does every morning.

“Well don’t you look beautiful” she smiled and gave me a hug. I groaned and hugged her back,

“All the boys will be looking at you” she said, wiggling her eyebrows.

“Oh joy” I said sarcastically. She laughed and gave me another hug before I walked out of the house and got into my black honda pilot. It’s not a brand new car, it’s only, like, two years old. But I love it. I’ve added my own personal touches to it.

I plugged in the address of the school to my GPS since I didn’t exactly know where it was. Turns out it’s only about fifteen minutes from here.

I parked in the parking lot and got out, making sure I had my schedule so that I knew where my locker was, the combo, and where all my classes were.

I walked into the school and a group of boys instantly locked their eyes on me and stared at me like I was a piece of meat. I scoffed and rolled my eyes. I glanced back at them and they were laughing at some kid and pointing. I looked at who they were pointing and making fun of and it was the boy I saw yesterday at the lake. Once again he had sunglasses on and his face was expressionless.

The group of boys were pushing his shoulders which only made him stumble a little but his facial expression never changed. He just stood there and took it.

I walked closer to them and I saw the boy holding a long stick. Then it clicked. The glasses and everything. He’s blind.

I walked over to the group of guys and they all looked at me,

“I told you she’d come running to me boys” the tall one with blonde hair said. I scoffed again and rolled my eyes,

“What’s your name baby?” he asked. I sarcastically laughed,

“Your kidding right?” I said. He looked a little taken back when I didn’t immediately flirt back,

“So your that type of girl, I like” he said biting his lip and nodding his head as he looked me up and down. Oh come on.

“I was actually coming over to tell you that what your doing to him” I said, pointing to the boy, “is wrong.” I said.

“Who, Bieber? Come on, he’s an easy target. It’s not like he’s going to fight back or anything, obviously.” the guy chuckled. I looked at the boy and he just looked uncomfortable. He couldn’t exactly walk away since one of the other boys in the group had him held by his shoulder.

Wow. Wow, your really that inconsiderate of people? You think a girl would find the guy who beats up on others who have a disability attractive?” I said, completely disgusted in what I was hearing. “Well I haven’t had a problem in getting girls for the past three years so apparently I’m doing fine” he chuckled.

“Well, I didn’t think anyone could get stupider than California boys but clearly I was wrong” I sarcastically laughed. The boy who I guess his last name is ‘Bieber’ chuckled a little at my statement.

“Shut up Bieber. You know what’s coming if you piss me off” the guy said. I was just completely disgusted at this situation that it made me want to get sick.

“You all should be disgusted with yourselves.” I hissed.

“Whatever you say baby, sooner or later you’ll want a piece of Tyler” he said pointing to himself. I laughed out loud,

“Whatever you say, Baby” I said and walked past him. I went up to the guy who was holding the boys shoulder and pushed him back so he let go of the shoulder and stumbled into the wall. The group of guys walked away leaving me and the boy alone,

“Are you okay?” I asked. He simply nodded and kept a straight face.

“I’m Brooke” I said with a smile.

“J-Justin” he studdered quietly. Awh, I’ve always found shy guys who studder to be cute. His voice was low and raspy which I thought was very attractive. He had nice style too, even it if was simple. A pair of dark wash skinny jeans and a plain yellow t-shirt with some black vans. His hair was ruffly just like yesterday when I saw him at the lake.

I reached for his hand and took it in mine and moved them up and down,

“Well it’s nice to meet you Justin” I said, shaking our hands. His grip on my hand tightened a little as she shook my hand as well.

“Nice to meet y-you too Brooke” he smiled. He let go of my hand and dropped it back at his side.

“Y-You didn’t need to tell off Tyler and-and those guys for me” he said. I sighed,

“I wanted to. They shouldn’t have been doing that.” I said.

“Are you only being nice to me because I have a disability?” he said almost sounding angry without studdering this time.

“What? N-no. Why would you think that?” I asked shocked.

“Because this is the most someone h-has actually talked to me in the past t-three years at this school” he said. My jaw dropped and my heart instantly broke as each word came out of his mouth. How could people be so cruel? So what if he’s blind, he’s still a human being, he still has feelings, and everyone needs someone other than their family to talk to.

“Are you serious?” I asked.

“Y-Yeah, why would anyone want to-to talk to the blind kid?” he asked.

“Why wouldn’t they want to talk to you?” I asked. I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to talk to him,

“Because I-I’m different, a loser, an outcast” he said quietly. And I thought my heart had already broken, but each word that comes out of his mouth seems to break it even more.

“Well if it helps, I don’t think your any different, or a loser or outcast” I said.

“You’ve only known me f-for ten minutes” he said.

“So? That’s enough time to become friends with someone right?” I smiled.

“I-I guess so” he shrugged. This poor guy.

“What’s your first class?” I asked.

“I have different classes t-than the rest of y-you guys.” he said. I guess that makes sense.

“Oh. Well I’d really like to stay and talk but I have to get to class. I’ll talk to you later?” I asked. He only nodded and then walked away, moving the stick back an forth as he walked down the hall. I watched him until he walked into a room at the end of the hall.

I made my way to my first class which was English. When I walked in I saw Tyler sitting there with the rest of his idiots.

“Couldn’t stay away from me?” he asked with a smirk.

“If you think your moronic comments are going to earn brownie points with me then you must be high” I laughed. He just glared at me before turning back around in his seat. I took a seat in the back and sat down. I noticed someone had sat next to me,

“Hey” a girl said. I looked at her and she had blond hair that went to her shoulders, she was actually really pretty,

“Hi” I smiled.

“I’m going to guess your new here” she said. I nodded,

“I just moved here from California” I said.

“So that would explain why your insanely tan” she giggled. I laughed as well,

“I spent pretty much every day on the beach” I said.

“Lucky. Well I’m Allison” she said.

“Brooke” I replied.

“I see you’ve met Tyler and his monkeys” she said with a scoff.

“Unfortunately” I giggled.

“He’s a dumbass” she said.

“I got that impression within two seconds of talking to him” I said, “he was beating up and picking on another guy” I explained.

“Justin Bieber?” she asked. I nodded,

“He always does” she said. I scrunched my eyebrows together,

“Well why doesn’t anyone stop him?” I asked. She shrugged,

“Because all anyone thinks about in high school is their appearance. If they’re seen standing up for the blind guy then they automatically are at the end of the totem pole” she explained. Really?

“Have you ever tried to stop him?” I asked.

“I just transferred here from another school that’s about twenty minutes away from here. I only know the people here because I went to middle school with most of them.” she said. I nodded,

“But if I had been here the past three years I would have killed Tyler for what he does to people.” she said, glaring at him.

“I just feel bad for Justin. I mean, how could someone do that to him?” I asked.

“People are ugly on the inside, people have no hearts” she said. I nodded in agreement.

Classes had gone by fast and it was already my lunch period. Allison had a different lunch than me so I was stuck on my own. I didn’t really want to sit in the lunch room and eat since that’s where all the neanderthal boys were. I went back to the hall where I had talked to Justin and walked further down the hall and peered into the room that he had went into this morning.

I saw him sitting there with a book on his desk as his fingers ran along the pages. Oh he’s reading brail.

He was the only one in there, just sitting and reading. A lady had walked out and almost bumped into me,

“Oh, I’m sorry darlin” she said in a true Carolina accent.

“No worries.” I smiled.

“You can go in if you want. I’m sure he’d love to spend the lunch period with a friend” she smiled at me. I smiled back and nodded.

I slowly walked into the room and I don’t think Justin had noticed. I didn’t want to scare him or anything like that.

“Ms.Becky?” he asked. He probably thought I was his teacher,

“Nope, not even close” I giggled. He gasped quietly and sat up in his seat,

“Uhmm, B-Brooke?” he asked all shy. I giggled again,

“Bingo” I said. I sat in the chair next to him at the table,

“W-what are you doing h-here?” he studdered.

“Nothing, just hanging out on my lunch period” I shrugged.

“Well, uhmm, w-wouldn’t you rather be w-with your friends or something?” he asked. I sympathetically half smiled,

“I am with a friend” I smiled.

“There’s someone else in here? W-Who?” he asked. I giggled,

“Well, he’s very sweet, but he’s also shy.” I said which made him blush, “And it’s very cute when he blushes.” I giggled. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips,

“I-I’m your friend?” he asked.

“Of course you are” I smiled and placed my hand on his which made him jump a little, but then smile,

“I saw you at the lake yesterday” I said.

“You did?” he asked.

“Yep! You were reading” I said.

“Y-yeah. I go there to-to read most of the time. I-it’s very quiet” he said.

“Well then I’m sure my little sister and dog ruined the quietness yesterday” I giggled. He chuckled and shook his head,

“N-no, I didn’t mind it” he said.

“Do you live near the lake?” I asked. He nodded,

“Yeah, it’s only about a five minute walk” he said without studdering.

“Really? My house backs up to the lake. We just moved in yesterday” I explained.

“O-oh really?” he asked.

“Yeah, from California. The climate is very different” I giggled. Justin chuckled, his laugh was adorable,

“Do you want to come over after school?” I blurted out.

“Are you s-sure?” he asked. I grabbed his hand and held it in both of mine,

“Of course I’m sure. I could use the company while I unpack” I said. He smiled,

“Okay” he said.

“I can drive us” I said. He nodded,

“Okay, I just have t-to tell my mom” he said, pulling out a cell phone and pressing the buttons quickly,

“Dude, your like, extremely fast at texting” I said as I watched his fingers move along the keyboard. He giggled,

“I’ve memorized where each key is. And they have the brail letters on them so it’s easy” he said. He showed me the phone and I ran my fingers over the keys, feeling the bumps on each key.

“That’s so cool” I said.

The rest of the lunch period Justin and I sat there talking. He’s gotten more comfortable around me, but he still studder’s which I fins rather cute. He’s still really shy and when I compliment him he blushes like crazy.
