Beat of My Heart [Sequel to Irresistible]

Amber finally becomes a newborn vampire and experiences life an entirely different way. She immediately has these new cravings--blood. She becomes the thing that she never wanted to be in the first place, a monster. But unfortunately, Niall is unable to control her. Amber’s urges for more blood grows stronger, which leaves Niall to turn to the only person he thinks can help her. Louis. Will Amber hold on to the love she has for Niall, or leave her humanity behind and fall for someone new?

2. Breaking Rules

"I am not letting you out of this house." Niall said, blocking the door to the outside world. "I can't stand to live cooped up in a smelly old building with nothing to do. I wanna be free, I want to have fun Niall." I said.

"Let her go mate. She deserves it. Harry and I will go with her if you want us to." Louis suggested  with a smile. Niall was enough to be my baby-sitter, I didn't need Harry and Louis. "I'll be fine on my own." I told them.

"She deserves a little bit of fun Niall." Harry said. I saw Niall look at the boys, and then look at me. "Okay, but if I hear that you've been killing more than your share of people, I will come and get you." Niall told me as I nodded. I promise. I thought silently in my head. "Thank you." I said.

He stepped aside as I opened the door, walking out with Harry and Louis behind me. Today was the day of Derek's beach party. We all got in Louis' car and drove down to the beach. Louis parked his car in the parking lot and got out. "Don't tell me you two are her body guards." Kate said, approaching us.

"I am, he's not." Harry said. We all knew that Niall and Louis haven't been on "good" terms lately since I had let Louis change me instead of Niall. "Of course I'm not. Though Niall's right, we can only let you drink from a certain amount of people. You will start a blood bath." Louis said.

How would that be any different from prom? I looked at him and I could see it in his eyes that he knew what I was thinking. There was an apologetic look in them and I forgave him for the things that happened in the past. "Amber, I'm glad you could make it." Derek smiled, running up to me.

He gave me a hug and twirled me around, then set me down. "I really missed you. I just wanted to see my best friend again." I smiled. "Thought partying wasn't really your scene."

He shrugged, "If it's my party, it is." he smiled. "Want to dance?" I nodded as he held out his hand and I giggled, taking his hand while he led me out to a crowd of people who were dancing on the beach.

Being surrounded by so many people, all I could smell was blood. "Can you get me a drink?" I asked Derek the minute we stopped dancing to chill by the shore for a bit. "Yeah, of course." he smiled, then walked away. "You're not that kind of thirsty, are you?" Louis asked, coming up behind me.

I turned around to face him and shook my head. "No, but the smell..."

"It'll intoxicate you for just a bit, since you're new and all. If you want, I could find you a snack." he smiled. Derek was walking back towards our direction and handed me a bottle of beer. I twisted the cap off and took a drink.

It was cool and refreshing, but it was better than drinking blood... for now. "Sure, a snack sounds good." I told Louis with a smile. He smirked and then went off into the crowd. Derek and I sat down on the sand side by side.

"How've you been?" Derek asked me.

"I've been good, a bit tired every so often but I'll manage." I smiled. "How long are you in town for?"

"Until next Friday. I've been meaning to talk to you for three weeks, but it seems like you've been avoiding my calls or something." he said.

"Oh, sorry about that." I looked down and gently bit my lip. I wanted to tell Derek about the fact that I was a vampire, but the thought of it was too much for him to bear. "I've been really busy lately. I wish we could've seen each other sooner. Maybe we can hang out next week?"

He smiled, "Yeah, I'd like that." Of course he'd agree. I took another sip of the beer. "I'm glad we could spend some time just talking with each other."

"Me too." he said. We started talking about our future plans, and just thinking about my own future made my heart break. I was a vampire forever, but at least I still had friends to live with. While listening to him talk about his future, all I could stare at was the vein in his neck.

The smell of the blood was intoxicating me, but I had to-- "Ow! Did you bite me?" he asked, reaching up to his neck and saw he had blood on his fingers. "I am so sorry. I have to go." I handed him the bottle, stood up, and walked through the crowd.

It was a bad idea, knowing that I wanted more blood. I couldn't believe it; I had bit my best friend. He would never talk to me again. Amber, don't think like that. I told myself, but my head was spinning. The taste of his blood made me want even more.

All of a sudden, I was lost in a blur. Everything around me soon disappeared and when I came to, bodies were on the floor in blood. I looked around at my surrounds and found myself in a club house. "How did I get here? What happened?" I asked.

Louis in the club house with me. "I can't believe you didn't see this coming." I heard Kate's voice outside. She was yelling at someone. "What about Derek?"

"He doesn't know about you yet. He's outside, still in shock."

Kate entered the club house with Harry, closing the door behind them. "How are we going to cover this up?" Harry asked, looking at all the dead bodies. At least more than half of the people who were at the party were now lying on the floor. "Yeah, how are we going to cover this up Harry? Their bodies were drained of blood." Kate said.

"Kate, there's no time for sarcasm." I said.

"You're the one who did this." I looked at her, knowing that she was right. I felt guilty for killing so many people in one night. "I'm going to talk to Derek." I stood up from the couch, but Harry blocked me. "You are not going out there with him knowing that his friends are dead."

"You sound just like Niall." I said.

"We're only trying to protect you Amber." Harry said. I was tired of being pushed around like a little kid. I pushed my way past Harry and went outside. As soon as I stepped out onto the sand, I looked to my left and saw Derek glance over at me. I'm sorry Derek. I thought and then left in the opposite direction.
