Stars

I've loved the stars ever since I was born. I would sit out every night and watch them dwindle away to little specks in the morning. I would also see these other creatures that ruined nearly every evening. No one else I had met saw them. They thought I was sick, but I wasn't . Those monsters were far too real, and I had to help the other 4 people who could also see them, get rid of them. I would be part of the biggest, yet secretive war there is. And it would be all because of the stars.

2. Fire

The fire was huge! It was a large burning house that looked abandoned. The fire was reaching into the trees embedding little nests of fire onto the branches. I was just about to walk away when I heard a screech, my earlier hunch about the house being abandoned was incorrect, someone was in there. I walked towards the fire. My eyes were stinging from the smoke, but I decided to ignore that and continue on towards it. Without burning myself, there was no clear path in. I walked around the house so many times, searching for an opening but none came. I had to give up. But I couldn't leave! Someone was dying in there! I didn't have my phone on me so I couldn't call an ambulance or the fire brigade. I looked around. Ever since the moon had hidden behind a cloud, it was really hard to see. There were no houses for miles around and you couldn't see the smoke at night, from a distance it was probably blending into the night sky.

The screech came again from the house. It didn't sound like a human but then again, if you're dying you just make a noise, don't you? I sat down on the grass trying to master my thoughts. I looked up to the sky and counted the stars. The more you searched, the more you saw. There must have been millions up there and I would never get to see most of them. I focused on one star, watching it flicker ever so gently, like a candle.

Suddenly, the star disappeared. I felt a sudden surge of energy in my body. My hands were tingling, then tickling, then itching and I scratch them sore. What was happening? The moon came out from behind the cloud, and my hands reflected the light from it. It looked so beautiful, like they were glowing. I remembered the burning house and the person inside, slowly dying.

From somewhere inside the house, a small explosion erupted, sending a shower of sparks every where, setting alight little puddles of fire. Out of instinct, I held my hands up to my face and willed not to be hurt; and it worked. An idea popped into my head. I didn't know how I was going to do it, but I think I had the hang of it now.

Again, I walked towards the house. I willed for my eyes not to sting and they didn't. I willed my lungs not to choke on the smoke, and they didn't. I was shaping this sudden energy rush inside me into what I wanted it to do for me. Was this going to work? I had no idea. I held up my hands to the fire and shaped the energy inside me to stop the fire. It worked; until I got to about half way across and I felt the last of the energy leave my body. How was I supposed to know that this was going to happen? I didn't have long to think as the flames were slowly making their way back to me. I thought out loud.

"So I got this rush of energy from when I was looking at the stars so," I jumped over a burning log, "what if I try that again?" I stood still and focused on a star. It felt wrong to take a stars energy, but I had to save that poor person. Again that same sense of rushing water came to me and I used the energy in the same way I had used it before.

After about ten minutes, I had managed to put the fire out. Had the person inside died? Or were they still alive. the screech cried out again. They were alive, but they didn't sound happy. Or human. From within the pile of ruble that was once a house, there was movement. Trying to get out? Probably, but maybe not.

I ran over to where the beam had moved and used the energy to move it off of the trapped 'person'. Once I removed it, I screamed! Inside a small hollow where there used to be a beam, was another one of those creatures that had tried to drag me away but failed when it found the fire. The difference between this one and that one was that this one only had one arm and the stump was oozing purple slime!

The creature tried to get out of the hollow as I ran away. It screeched at me the whole time. Seconds later, it managed to get out and had run past me and had turned around waiting for me. As it was waiting, it healed itself, bringing back it's arm! I held out my hands and it stared straight at me, like it was pleading with me not to kill it. I hesitated, I felt sorry for it, but in my moments of weakness, it screeched the loudest screech I heard yet and turned into a bird flying away into the distance.

So you can do that too? I thought to myself.

I too shifted to the body of a bird and flew after it. I was going to kill that monster even if I had to go through every animal body in the world.
