12. Burned

*Heather's POV*

I woke up to a loud banging coming from the other side of my door, Sylvia yelling at the top of her voice.

"HEATHER YOU BETTER GET UP RIGHT NOW OR YOU'LL BE LATE FOR SCHOOL!" Her shrill voice traveled through the door, hurting my already sore head.

"I'M UP!" I screamed back, pushing the bedding away from me, and standing up from my small single bed. As I tried to move all my muscle's screamed in agony, the wind knocking out of me as I fell to the floor with a thump.

What is happening to me? Why does my body hurt so much? I thought, moving my arm towards my bed side table, trying to ignore the agonizing pain coursing through my body thanks to the movement.

I felt my hand brush against the cool metal of my phone, willing it to come closer so i could grab it. After two minutes of fruitless attempts to get it, the phone finally fell onto the floor right in front of me, so I could finally reach it.

I searched my phone looking for the professor's number, but it wasn't there. I swear I put it in here.

My body slowly stopped hurting, the pain fading enough for me to stand.

A hollow felling took over my body, like I was empty, like a big part of me had just been ripped out my body, but I ignored it. I started to get ready for school, wearing my usual black jeans, white top and red leather jacket, my fiery red hair falling gently down my back, but today it seemed less bright, less lively.

With my book bag slung over my shoulder, full of all of today's book I trudged down my foster parent's stairs. I don't consider this place home, it's their home not mine.

Sylvia looked up from her breakfast as I walking into the kitchen, my black high tops making a hollow thudding sound with every step I take. Today I didn't feel like heels, they're too much hassle.

"Morning sweetie, did you sleep well?" She asked, her voice sounding fake with her act of caring she was trying to put on.

"Ok" I mumbled grabbing a piece of toast laying on the table in front of me before heading out the door.

"Have a nice day at school, Heather" She called after me, knowing it was no use trying to act like my mother, she'll never be her.

"Bye" I said before slamming the door after me.
