13. Principals Office

"Bay" a stern voice called. I sat down in the red chair in front of a sturdy metal desk. Behind the desk, the principal, Mrs.Haligan, spinned impatiently back and forth in her rolling chair. Her hands were curled together in her lap. She seemed so calm at first glance, but a storm was brewing violently within her.

"Hello Mrs.Haligan." I mumbled. She leaned over stiffly, making her scowl even more penetrating. Her makeup was terribly done, it's markings spread randomly in pink and blue patches around her face.

"Bay Garline" she started, not breaking her position or threatening scowl. "Beating up students for no apparent reason is unacceptable and will not go without punishment"

"I'm well aware." I snorted. She leaned closer across the desk. My breaths lingered with hers and I could feel my heart beat speed up. If she wanted to, she could knock me out easily with one simple thrash of her hand toward my direction. I'd be out like a light.

"Ms.Garline" she spit harshly " I don't need attitude. I need you to explain why you not only beat up an innocent girl, but hit one of our most symbolical pupils."

I felt the heat rush to my cheeks, overwhelming me with anger. Innocent. The word could not stop running through my brain.

I stood up quickly, shoving the chair to the side. Mrs.Haligan leaned back finally, her stiffly position finally not dominant over my scrawny figure.

"Harry! Symbolic! He's an asshole! He deserved that punch! And Jessica is far from innocent! She deserved the beating too!" I clenched my fists tightly together,my knuckles turning a ghostly white.

"Ms.Garline!" She screamed. "Hurting another student physically or mentally is wrong by all standards."

"You know what?" I shouted throwing my fists down on the desk. "I think this meeting is over. The person who should be getting in trouble is Jessica. She's the one who hurt me mentally. But of course she didn't mention her little comment."

With another pound of my fist, I turned and walked out the door, just as confidently as I was when I walked in.
