4. Three: Breakfast at IHOP

I let out a groan as I roll onto my side. Slowly opening my eyes, I realize I was lying in my bed. I must have moved over to my bed in the middle of the night but couldn’t quite place when I did. I had to have been so out of it I didn’t even realize what I was doing. As I glance over, I notice Harry was still asleep beside me, his face buried into the pillow he was holding tightly onto. His curls were a wild mess on top of his head and I noticed the tattoos along his bare arm. I try to keep myself from smiling.

Avery, stop it! You hardly know him! I think to myself as I slowly sit up quietly as I could and reach over to grab my phone that was resting on the nightstand. I try my hardest to be as quiet as I could so I wouldn’t wake the boy who was asleep beside me. He didn’t budge, only letting out a slight groan from his lips. He sure is a heavy sleeper, and I thought I was that bad, obviously I wasn’t.

I press the home button which lit up my lock screen, showing a picture of me and my brother as the background. It was from when I went home for Christmas. I had a few text messages, one from my mom and one from Kasey; she is one of my good friends I met here at college beginning of the spring semester of my freshman year here at University of California. We get together occasionally but we aren’t as close as I am with Claire.

I type my pass code in and go to my messages so I could begin to read them. I decide to read the one from my mom first. She was just checking in and seeing how I was doing. They lived in Santa Monica, which was a nice old beach town. It’s just about twenty minutes away so it isn’t so bad, hardly at all. I reply back and tell her everything was going good and told her that Claire’s boyfriend and his friends were staying with us here for the summer.

After I reply back to my mom, I go and read the text I had received from Kasey. She had left on a cruise with her family for the summer that, I think went from California to Hawaii or somewhere. I thought that would be pretty cool, actually, even though I have never been on a cruise ship before let alone a plane. I wasn’t too good in places like that, I get super claustrophobic where I’m close to passing out, it’s pretty bad actually. Just the thought of it made me nauseous.

I shift my eyes back to my phone so I could read the text from Kasey once more. She was asking how I was doing and what I have been up to along with Claire. I begin to reply back right away and tell her that we’re doing good and that her boyfriend, Niall, and his friends were staying with us for the summer. After a few minutes, I put my phone off to the side and lay back on the too comfortable pillow as I begin to drift back off to sleep.

There was soon a hard knock on the door. Groaning at the loud noise, I lift my head up and run my hand over my tired eyes. I slowly yet quietly get out of my bed and pad my way over to the closed door. Grabbing hold of the handle, I pull it open to see a smiling Claire standing in front of me.

“Hey,” I mumble with a tired smile. “What’s up?” I ask, looking at her.

“We’re all thinking about going out to get some breakfast, Niall’s starving, as usual,” she replies and laughs at her last comment. “Want to go?” I nod my head. I was hungry myself and needed my coffee fix.

“Yeah, just let me get dressed. Harry’s still asleep, should I wake him?” I respond and glance over my shoulder to my bed where a guy I had just barely met was asleep.

“I’m sure the lads will figure out a way to wake his arse up,” she says with a smile. I can’t help but roll my eyes at her remark.

“Well, I’ll meet you downstairs, going to get ready,” I tell her with a small smile.

She just nods and walks off, leaving me standing there. I walk into my room and begin to go through my closet so I could find something to wear. I soon decide on a pair of denim shorts and a racer-back tank along with a neon-colored lace bandeau bra. After I grab my outfit, I head out the door to the hallway so I could go change in the bathroom since my room was currently being occupied.

It takes me a good five to ten minutes to get ready. My outfit looked cute so I decided to pair it with my favorite brown sandals. My teeth were brushed, I smelled clean and I felt good. As I walk back into my room so I could grab my phone, I notice Harry was now up and wide awake, sitting on my bed messing around on his phone. He was in a gray shirt and jeans and his curls looked nice and kempt.

“Morning,” I mutter as I walk over and grab my phone and stick it in my purse that was now resting on my shoulder. He glances up from his phone and mumbles a “hello” back. His voice was deep and thick just like his accent.

“Sorry if I woke you earlier,” I tell him with an apologetic smile as I stand there by the door.

“You didn’t, love,” he replies with a cute smile.

“You coming? We’re all going to get breakfast,” I say looking at the boy who was glancing right back at me.

He nods as he gets up and shoves his phone into the front pocket of his too-tight looking jeans. I shift my eyes away from his as I begin to head down the stairs, knowing he was close behind me. I walk into the living room to find Claire, Niall and the other three boys sitting around goofing off, probably trying to pass time.

“There ya two are! Let’s get goin’, shall we?” Niall says with a smirk as he grabs Claire’s hand and drags her out the front door to the car.

The rest of us catch up and make our way outside. As I was walking, I could hear Harry whispering something to one of the other guys. I had an instant feeling it had to be about me, I mean, it had to be, especially since I’m the one sharing a room–my room–with him for the summer. I shook it off as I got in the car.

On the drive to wherever we were headed, I plugged in my headphones. I decided to listen to Savin’ Me by Nickelback. It was one of my favorite songs by one of my many favorite bands. While the song played, I hummed along to the music. After the song ended, it went to a different one, a more upbeat song. By the time I looked out the window, after listening to three more songs or so, I realized we were here, at I-HOP.

I put away my headphones before getting out. After we all got out of the car, we all made our way toward the entrance. My mouth was watering; the smell of the coffee and hot food was wafting through my nose. I couldn’t wait to order; a hot cuppa coffee was calling my name along with some Belgian waffles. They had the best, well, in my opinion they do.

“Hello...uh, how many?” the girl asked looking at all of us as we stood there waiting to get a table.

“There are seven of us, love,” Louis speaks up looking at the girl who stared back at him with wide curious eyes.

Her mouth dropped open as well, so I’m guessing she had to have been a fan of the boys. Why else would she be acting like that if she didn’t like them? I had to keep myself from rolling my eyes, I had no idea what it was about how these girls were so in love with them. They were just normal people who perform music on stage for a living.

“Oh-okay, um…right this way,” she said and grabbed each of our menus before leading us to a table big enough to fit all seven of us. We all take our seats and she gives each of us our menus and tells us our waitress will be with us soon to take our orders. We all talk amongst ourselves while we wait for our waiter/waitress to arrive.

“So, Avery, how did last night go?” Claire asks, staring at me and moves a loose strand of her hair out of her face. Great, what a way to kill the awkward silence; especially since I had all of the boy’s eyes on me, Claire included. I laugh slightly and roll my eyes at her remark.

“It went–I-I’ll tell you later,” I mumble quietly and begin to look at the menu that was in front of me.

“What was that?” Louis questioned, looking at me, his eyebrows raised and a slight smirk on his lips.

“I said tell you later,” I speak up a bit, shifting my eyes over to meet Claire’s. She just nodded and went back to looking at her menu. I shift my eyes back to the menu in front of me, my eyes averting to see what kind of waffles I wanted. I’ve wanted them for a while now.

After a few minutes of talking amongst ourselves, a tall dark haired girl walks up to the table. “Hey there, I’m Callie and I’ll be taking your orders. What can I get you all to drink this morning?” she shot a nice smile to each of us.

As I glance over at a few of the boys, Harry included, I can’t help but notice smirks on each of their faces. The boys begin to rattle off their drink orders while I stare intently at the menu to keep myself from breaking out into a smile. God, what was he doing to me?! I barely even knew Harry but since they are here for the summer plus he was staying in my room, might as well get to know him better.
