4. Chapter 3: Rubik's Cube

THIS IS MY FAV CHAPTER! ENJOY!
*****************************************

I slowly tried to turn the cubics of the rubik's cube. Since we didn't
had a lot of money, I found myself often doing puzzles. And, the more
often I did them, the more I enjoyed it. I noticed my hands didn't
had the strength anymore to push the cubics. The cold air had made them
freeze. I heard the snow squeeze under someone's feet.My head shot up
and I looked around trying to find someone, but I didn't. My breath
hitched and I closed my eyes when I thought it may good be the killer,
but I quickly shoved the thought aside before turning back to therubik's
cube again. Not a minute later, I heard it again, but this time it was
closer and I could hear it was someone who was walking on the right side
of the bench. I quickly turned my head and gulped when I saw a tall body
standing beside it. Because of the shock, the rubik's cube fell out of
my hands and fell down on the cold snow in front of my feet. It was a
boy with a beanie over his head. I noticed the curls sticking out of
them and giving me enough information who it was. Again, he wasn't
dressed good for a weather like this, only wearing a shirt and shorts.

"Aren't you cold?" He said with his husky voice.

"No." I lied and looked away.

"Your hands say you are.", He said as he nodded towards my hands. I
looked at them, only to find them shaking.

"Why don't you just leave?" I looked up, into his eyes. His eyebrows
were frowned as he looked directly in mine, giving me chills all over.

"No, you leave." I spat and looked down at my lap. A silence fell, but
I knew he still was standing next to the bench, I heard the squeezing
sound of the snow and the noise became louder until I saw two naked feet
standing in front of me. I looked up, but he bowed down just before my
eyes reached his. I followed him until he reached his hand out and
grabbed the rubik's cube. He stood back up, looking at it.

"What's this?" He asked, still looking at it while turning it around to
observe every side of it.

"Don't you know?" I asked bewildered as my eyes widened a bit. His eyes
shot towards mine, still looking with frowned eyebrows, and I quickly
made them in their original position while he shook his head.

"It's a rubik's cube." I explained and reached my arm towards it, but
he didn't gave it back.

"Is it a puzzle?" He asked and turned the object around in his hands again.

"Yeah, I know it's really childish for me to do them.", I said and felt
a flush growing on my cheeks.

"How do you do it?" He said, ignoring the last part of my answer. He sat
down next to me and made himself comfortable. Suddenly, his stomach
started to grumble very loudly and he grasped it.

"You hungry?" I asked, but he shook his head. "If you want something to
eat, I have chocolate.", I said. He turned his head towards me. This was
the first time his face was as close as this. I had to say, he looked
handsome. But I knew it was a boy who had millions of girls falling for
him, and those girls were probably much prettier than me.

"No thanks.", He said. "But how do you do this?" He repeated his
question and looked at the rubik's cube in his hands.

"You got to get each side one color so you have to turn the
pieces until they are." I explained and the boy started with turning a
piece slowly. "Like that.", I said. and he continued turning a few
pieces around.

"Try it, you can give it back to me tomorrow.", I said.

"Okay." He answered, but continued turning them. I looked at his hands
and saw they were really big. They could cup almost the whole rubik's
cube, while I could only cup one side of them. A cold wind started to
blow, causing me to shiver. But it also sent me a particular scent into
my nostrils and it came from my wind, exactly from the spot where the
boy was sitting.

"You smell a bit weird.", I said quietly without thinking and mentally
slapped myself. He didn't respond, only pursed his lips
while continuing with turning the rubik's cube. I looked at his naked
feet, which were really big too and reached the ground. I looked at mine
that were covered with Ella's and didn't even reached the ground since
I didn't had long legs. I looked up at his legs, which were really
skinny yet toned. His stomach grumbled again and I looked at his face to
see him biting his lip as he watched what he was doing.

"Aren't you cold?" I asked.

"I don't get cold." He simply answered. I leaned my back against the
railing of the bench, wondering why he couldn't. It stayed silent, the
only thing that filled it was the sound of the rubik's cubeturning. I
slowly stood up and fixed my coat.

"I'm going home.", I said and he nodded in response. I walked away
towards the entrance of the flat building. When I opened the door, I
looked over my shoulder to see him still sitting on the bench and
turning the rubik's cube. Suddenly, I heard his stomach grumbled again
and the rubik's cube fell out of his hands before he grasped his stomach
and squeezed his eyes shut in pain. I quickly stepped inside and closed
the door. I ran up the stairs and down the hallway until I reached
my front door. With shaking hands, I opened the door with my keys and
got inside as fast as I could. When the door closed, I leaned my back on
it and brushed myself down. When I finally reached the ground, I noticed
how much I was shaking, how heavy I was breathing and how hard my heart
was beating. I jumped up, hung up my coat and scarf and ran to my room.

As soon as I got into my room, I locked the door and sat down on the
windowsill, with the purpose to forget about what had happened. I
watched the apartments and looked into the ones where there were no
curtains hanging in front of their windows.

I saw Mrs. Barker arguing with her boyfriend. She was crying and her
boyfriend was yelling at her. I never likedwatching fights. When there
was a fight on school, I always walked away although all the others
stood around them and supported their favorite fighter.

I looked over at the apartment of Mr. Jenkons, but saw there were no
lights on and he wasn't working out in his fitness room. I pulled up one
eyebrow. Just a few days again, he saw me sitting ont he bench when he
came back from jogging down the streets. He had sat down next to me and
told me about his working-out plan. He told me he jogged from 8
o'clock until 10 o'clock in the evenings and work out in his fitness
room when he got back until 11 o'clock. I looked at the clock on the
wall and saw it was almost 11 o'clock. I wondered why he wasn't working
out. I shrugged it off and decided to go to bed.

When I was done with brushing my teeth and came back into my room, I
looked at my clock and saw it was already half past eleven. I sighed and
grabbed my pj's out of my bed. I pulled off my sweatshirt, leaving me in
only my black and tight-fitting tank top. I shivered because of the cold
air and quickly pulled of my tank top.

When I was only left in my underwear, I suddenly felt someone's stare.
My breath hitched and I felt a weird feeling in my chest. I quickly
turned around and looked at all the corners of my room, only to find no
one. I then looked to my to see in time something quickly hiding itself
away.. I ran towards it and closed the curtains. Still holding the
curtains in my hands, I closed my eyes and breathed in deep and out. I
finally let go of the curtains when I had convinced myself I must have
imagined it and put on my pj's. I jumped in bed and hugged the duvets tight.

My eyelids became heavier and heavier, but just before I almost fell
asleep, I heard voices on the other side of the wall again.

"What did you do?!" A man yelled.

"I'm sorry okay! I couldn't hold it anymore!" I heard the boy with the
curls yelling.

"Yes and who has to clean your mess again? Me!" I heard the man yell and
recognized him as the father of the boy.

"You didn't had to if you didn't tripped the last time you went out!"
The boy yelled harder this time and it remained silent for a few
seconds until a door finally closed.

I rolled over so I was lying on my back and stared at the ceiling. There
was something about that boy, something that made him different. But it
was something that made me feel attracted to him, that made me want to
get to know him better.
