It’s been seven hours and fifteen days
Since you took your love away
I go out every night and sleep all day
Since you took your love away

I couldn’t stop the tears from falling as I listened to the song again. I moved the cursor over the pause icon on my iTunes folder and stabbed the keypad on my laptop to stop the song. But it didn’t stop the tears. I closed down the folder and opened up the word document that I should’ve been working on, but the words all blurred into one through my veil of tears and I sighed deeply.

Pull yourself together woman. You’ve been dumped, but let’s face it. You’re not fifteen it’s not the end of the world.

Grow up and move on!

But the more I chastised myself, the more the tears seemed to flow. Even though I’d shut the folder down, I could still hear in my head, my now ex-boyfriend singing the song that had bought us so close together, and it hurt. The fact that I’d been dumped, just days before Christmas, just seemed to elevate the pain.

It’s unbelievably had to love you
But I love you anyway

I stared at my phone ringing and vibrating its way across the table in front of me and sighed again, although it wasn’t his voice even that seemed to be taunting me. The lyrics now more profound than they had ever seemed before.

I picked it up and cancelled the incoming call, not even bothering to look and see who it was from, I didn’t want to speak to anyone right now. My friends would be comforting in their own way, but I couldn’t take their concern and my family would no doubt be saying I told you so, which was no more than deserved.

You see, my ex-boyfriend was more than ten years my junior and I had stubbornly ignored all the warnings that it would all end in tears. We thought we loved each other and that was all that mattered at the time, as far as I was concerned.

But it seems, that true love alone was not enough, particularly not when you were going out with one of the most sought after and successful x factor contestants that the show had ever seen, and particularly when his boss couldn’t stand the sight of you.
