Dead End

KC Circuit isn't a race track. She's a normal teenage girl who takes a fancy to training sports or self defense, or painting with metallics.

Her life is really put to the test when everything changes. The once crowded streets of her hometown, Silverville, are teeming with parasites so vicious, it can change the way of humanity. And not in the way that people the way that people die, and come crawling back to life.
Zombies. And they're out to get her.

4. Survival Of The Night

KC's eyes widened to the size of pool balls. How else was she supposed to react? Running and screaming wasn't going to sort anything out. She knew that was what her parents were doing. It sort of made sense. Leave the kids behind, let them die.

'That's why they left...' KC managed, and fell to the floor. She hadn't fainted or anything, she'd It was shock more then anything. And fear. Oh God.

'They are Zombies. Real...Zombies.'

KC looked away. She couldn't watch the fear grow in Katie's eyes. Zombies was NOT what she expected. What were they to do now? Zombies ripped everything apart until they found what they wanted. In this case... they were after flesh, bones and blood. And both KC and Katie had enough of that to offer. No. They had to leave. And soon.

'Katie, we've got to get out of here.'

Katie shrugged, and knelt down in front of KC. It scared her. Just a little.

'How, KC? How can we run from this without getting killed? They are everywhere. They're, what, three streets away? I managed to escape from my house in time. My whole street was gulped up. These people...they aren't like the ones in movies. They move quick.'

KC released a wobbly breath.

Zombies. Real Zombies. And they were coming.

'We have to survive the night, Katie. Our best chance is hiding upstairs, in the attic. Zombies die in the daylight, right?'

Katie shook her head.

'They burn in the daylight, but they don't die. If were going to get out of town, we need a vehicle. That's our best bet. But were going to need to wait until it's daytime. If Zombies burn in sunlight, it'll make them slower. We'll be able to escape.'

KC nodded. She needed to take this all in. And fast. They had to survive. They had to get out of town, leave, live the rest of their lives. KC had a future, a good one at that, and a Zombie Invasion wasn't going to ruin that. Not now, not ever. She was scared as hell, yeah, but survival was the main thing to focus on.

'Come on, let's move. Oh, and bring you stuff upstairs.'

KC took the candle out of Katie's hand, and began to climb the stairs. Slowly, she placed the candle down on the carpet, and crept into her parents room. The key to the attic was in a small compartment in the wardrobe. KC fumbled through, reaching her hand inside, shuffling the boards about. When she produced the key, she shut the door, and took a few steps forward to the thick wooden door. In the key went and she turned it, until something clicked. She felt pressure release, and she knew it was unlocked. She shoved the key in her pocket, and picked the candle back up, shoving the door open with her backside. Just at that moment, Katie climbed the stairs. Her suitcase and large bag looked as if they were about to fall but she made it to the top. They both crept inside to the dark, musty room. There was a small window in the corner. No curtain.

'I'll block it with...'

KC put the candle on an chest, and found something tall enough to fill the gap. It was an old grandfather clock.

'How convenient.'

Katie dragged her bags inside and shut the door gently. She moved her bags to the corner of the room.

'What about your stuff?' Katie asked, nodding towards the door with her head. KC didn't answer for a moment. She sank down the clock, and held the warm candle in her hands. Then she looked up and met Katie's gaze.

'If it's clear tomorrow, I'll maybe get something from my bedroom. And maybe some food. But we might not need them, especially if were leaving this...parasite town.'

Katie pushed herself into the corner. KC grabbed the candle, and blew it out.

'Time for bed, I think. Were going to need all the rest we can get.'
