Dead End

KC Circuit isn't a race track. She's a normal teenage girl who takes a fancy to training sports or self defense, or painting with metallics.

Her life is really put to the test when everything changes. The once crowded streets of her hometown, Silverville, are teeming with parasites so vicious, it can change the way of humanity. And not in the way that people the way that people die, and come crawling back to life.
Zombies. And they're out to get her.

Dedicated to my best friend Ellie Ruddlesdin :)

15. Call Out

KC woke up, rubbed her eyes, and stood up. She was only just getting used to waking, leaving, raiding, sleeping. She looked around, a little confused. Where were they? Oh yeah, in a petrol station. Beside her, Katie was snoring lightly. She decided to leave her, and instead, grab things that they needed. Who knew when they were going to find another station or shopping centre?

KC found the basket, and picked it up. She was beginning to regret not going back for a bag. The basket had started to make blisters under four of her fingers, where she usually gripped it with her sweaty hands. Maybe there's be a bag here...?

For a while KC hunted about, even though there wasn't much in the station. She found a plastic bag, but that would rip easily. She found a cardboard box, but that wouldn't do either. They'd have to stick with the basket.

Just as KC was about to make her way back over to Katie, someone screamed. For a moment, KC thought it was Ellie, and with hope, she dropped the basket, and raced out of the station. To her dismay it wasn't. It was a girl with wild blond hair, racing down the road with her arms in the air. KC looked at her with wide eyes and pure shock. She'd survived a Zombie infested town? By herself?

'Help me!' she yelled at KC. They are coming! Please!'

She switched tracks, and pounded down the small car slope towards the shop. Behind her, KC saw, Zombies. Running at amazing speeds. KC swore under her breath, grabbed the girl, and shoved her inside. Quick as lightning, KC grabbed a chair, and hooked it under the doors. Then she ordered the girl to duck down, and stay down.

In there corner of the room cam a moan. KC saw Katie about to stand, when she yelled, 'Stay down! They're here, stay down!'

Katie understood immediately and crawled behind a stack of books that were never going to sell. She stayed there, and KC stayed on the floor with the girl who's name she hadn't caught. How come it was always girls they saved? Why wasn't it the boys?

'I'm Tanya' she breathed, and looked KC in the eyes. Then she slumped down on the door.

'I'm KC, and that's Katie. Why the hell did you send them here?'

'I didn't mean too. I promised my brother I'd come back when I found someone who could help him, but I couldn't find anyone. Well, anyone who wasn't a walking killer machine. Can you help us? Please?'

The moaning, KC noticed, wasn't coming from Katie anymore. It was coming from outside somewhere. KC struggled to gather her thoughts together. Living in fast forward was far from easy.

'I...I don't know. Were trying to get out of town. You should come with us, get help for you and your brother.'

KC thought it was a pretty reasonable answer, but Tanya looked a KC with plead in her eyes, as if that wasn't good enough.

'It'll take days to get out of town. I can't leave my brother alone in that place. It's already been a day. How am I supposed to know if he's okay?'

Suddenly, from outside, came rapid gun fire. KC ducked down further, sending her arms flying to protect her head. Tanya did the same. When the gunfire stopped, footsteps, furiously fast footsteps, sounded. The sound of glass shattering made KC's ears explode. Someone came through the glass, a gun down their right arm, holding it with a major tight grip. KC could see musle and bulk.

'Are you infected?'

It was always going to be a first question around here.
