3. Sunshine...

As my eyes slowly opened I had to blink a few times to see my surroundings. “Morning sleepyhead” Charlie said from above me, I looked up and saw him smiling at me I gazed straight ahead and recognised that I was huddled up upon his chest and had my arm wrapped around him, I immediately jumped up in shock forgetting what had happened to my leg the night before, I shrieked in pain and nearly fell but he caught me luckily “I told you you couldn’t resist me” he winked. I blushed wondering how I had ended up there.

“I’m sorry…I don’t even know how i…”

“It’s okay, you kept me warm anyway” he interrupted. I went pinker; he smiled as his stomach grumbled

“Time for breakfast grizzly”

“Finally, I’ve been watching you sleep for over an hour and you don’t wake up from anything my stomach grumbled around eight times and your ear was just above it” I laughed and for some reason I was in a great mood. The sun was out and what looked like a never ending, gloomy and isolated forest yesterday was now a colourful and open area of beautiful flowers that could get anyone smiling. He had taken a backpack with him out of his car which was destroyed by Matt’s gang when they found out Charlie was following them, he managed to remember his backpack and phone when he was getting out.  His backpack had a chocolate bar, his phone, a bottle of water from the party and some gum. We halved the chocolate bar and both took a sip of water, he poured some of the water in his palms and threw it onto his face and hair.

“Ready?” he said as I watched in amazement how as he swished his hair back and forth he looked like a model. “Hello?” he said waving his hand in front of my face,

“Sorry guess I’m still half asleep” I said

“You slept longer than me and I’m not even tired, now jump on its 8:40am and we should be home before noon”

“it’s okay the night’s sleep let my leg rest and its healed a bit since yesterday, so I can walk but I might have to lean on your shoulder” I said trying to get up, he put me down since he was still carrying me when I got shocked that I was cuddled up near him all night. I managed to stand, I staggered a little but was able to walk at a reasonable pace, I had one arm around his neck and I put all my other weight on my other unharmed foot and by 10:00am we had stopped to take another break.

We took another drink of water and both had a piece of gum to take our mind off our aching legs.

“Shouldn’t be long to go” Charlie said

“How do you know where we are going?”

“When I was a boy, around nine years ago my grandfather took me for a walk in this area every two to three days and we would go fishing by a pond not too far from here. By the time I was twelve I had every square of the forest floor memorized.”

“Oh wow.”

“I used to live by here but we moved when mum recognised the trip for school was too long so we moved somewhere nearer, which is where we live now and that’s why I go to St Divines with you.”

“What year did you move to St Divine’s?”

“I’ve been going there for five years now so in year seven like you”

“Oh okay, is this the quickest way back to the city, back home?”
“It’s either back where I got you from or this way it shouldn’t be too long now.”

“We better get moving then”

“Sure”

We got back up ready to walk; Charlie had told me that we should be home in 40 minutes if we keep up the pace but we decided to have a light jog since my leg was healing and wanted to get home before noon. We started walking and talked about school, we were in the same grade but had only began being best friends in year nine when he was in my tech, math and English class and because our last names were next to each other each class and we would be seated together and since then we would talk more and more and soon became best friends. Now here we are a girl in trouble and her closest friend coming to rescue her.

We looked at Charlie’s phone and the time said ‘11:28’ we should be home in ten minutes I was told but my leg felt numb and I was in agony. He offered to carry me but I know that he was in just as much pain as me, by now we could see the city lights and now it was my turn to lead, I knew every street and every suburb of the city and from what it looked like my house was only about five to ten minutes away.  His phone finally received signal and we were able to call a cab because if we walked any further we were going to pass out, in the cab we called my mum who I found out had called a search party for us with Charlie’s parents. Tiffany was one of my other closest friends she was best friends with me and Matt in year seven and has been ever since, we were like the three amigos that done everything together, the three musketeers that no one and nothing could tear apart… until Matt had somewhat gone insane and lost his family.
