The Hidden

There's something daunting in those blue eyes. Mysterious and intriguing, the vision can't seem to slip away like the wrest. Rosalind Pierce has practically lived her whole life cooped up, hidden from the world. When she is forced to finally leave, she can never go back. On her adventure to stop a group called the Hunters from destroying her species kind, she meets a blue-eyed werewolf that turns her world upside down.

5. Running

The Hunters will pay for what they did. Rose felt like she was running for hours, but she didn't feel tired. It was as if she could run forever. Her feet barely touched the ground, and when they did it would only be for a second. She couldn't say how fast she was going, but she knew that it was supernaturally fast. She fled past the forest now and ended up in the mountains. She finally came across a stream and decided to take a break. Splashing water on her face, Rose was relieved to find something to drink. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw something tiny and black walking on all four legs. She turned around and saw a baby black bear getting up onto its hein legs. She started to walk towards it.

"Awww. Hi there little fella. Wou-"

As she was speaking another black bear much larger than the baby came out of the bushes. Protecting her baby, the bear started to run after Rose. On the first few steps, she fumbled. Passing the stream, she ran into a crowd of trees, hoping to confuse the bear.

William Lauscia was born into a high ranked family. He was taught that loyalty and keeping his word were traits to live by. If he did not abide by the rules, he was brutally punished and beaten with a whip. Every time he did not follow the rules, he would receive another lash to his back lashings-adding up to a total of 48 lashings each night. Some nights were better, some nights were hell. It just depended on his parents well-being that day. William barely did anything wrong half the time he was beaten. The pain even stopped at a point while he was whipped. Visitors came and went through the house without question of his abuse. He merely put on a facade with his parents that his life was perfect. One night his father took a lashing of one to many in front of his mother. She pleaded for him to stop before he bled to death, but he wasn't going to stop. The boys shrieks woke up the forest surrounding their house, creating wolves to howl, owls to hoot, birds to tweet, and trees to shake. That's when his mother stepped in front of him and took a lashing herself. "You weren't even going to stop when I'm in front of him," she squealed that night. William became so mad and full of anguish that he begged his mother to run and leave the man he called his father. She felt stuck and would not leave her husband.

So William ran off into the night alone. Or so he thought as a wolf pounced on him and bit his lower leg. Scared that the beast would eat him to pieces, he grabbed his knife from his lower pocket and stabbed the beast right through his chest. The blood seeped into the bite mark the wolf left on his leg. Instantly William became paralyzed on the ground. The pain was  excruciating and powerful. He felt like the life he had left was being sucked out of him and left him limp and dry. He no longer was paralyzed but was transformed into the beast that roams the night and basks in the moons glory. He howled at the moon till he could no longer howl. He was no longer human.

                   3 years later

"Why haven't I gone back yet?" Will thought to himself, "she needs me. He's probably whipping her right now for no logical reason. I could go back and eat him alive if I wanted to. I just need to find someone who knows their way back to town. I'm starving. I wonder if there are any deer-"

A girl, petite and overdressed to roam the woods, slammed right into William's chest.

"Ouch," she said, rubbing her head.

A boy, muscular and tall, stood looking down at Rose.

"A little far from the wedding I see," the boy said, chuckling under his breath.

"No but if you don't mind, I need to go-" she stumbled on her words as the black bear came around the bend. Falling to the floor, the bear charged right at Rose.

He stepped right in front of the bear to block the view of her. When the bear looked as if it was about to tear the boy to pieces, the boy transformed into a wolf the size of car. His fur was a golden brown. The bear ran off scared as the wolf took a step towards it. The wolf then transformed back into the boy. Scared, Rose laid on her back frozen. The boy started to run away as Rose got up.

"Wait!" She called out, hoping he didn't get to far ahead.

She started after him, unsure what she would do if she caught him. Her feet left the ground once again and was soaring through the air. When she finally saw him in reach, she held out her hands ready to pounce on top of him. Tumbling forward, their bodies became tangled. He somehow ended up on top of her, his body covering every part of her body. She watched as his blue eyes looked her up and down. It was uncomfortably close for being this close to a stranger, but it felt right. While Luke's fit like a puzzle, there were some places where it was unnatural and others where it felt! What was she thinking? She was with Luke.

He cleared his throat and brought her back to the scene, "if you excuse me." They were staring for a while.

This is crazy but, "wait! You could help me. You could help me find a way to stop the Hunters," Rose said, scrambling to her feet.

He looked at her like she was the last person he would want to see. "I'd rather be alone."

"Name your price," she declared.

"I'm not worth anything," he scowled.

"Please, I would do anything," she begged.

"Anything?" He thought, "maybe she knows a way back to town."

"Okay, fine but you have to lead me back to town," he bargained.

"But the Hunters are back there," she pointed out.

"That seems like a personal problem and don't you want to face the Hunters not run from them?" Will countered.

"Yes but it's not those Hunters I want. I want the one that is in charge of it all," Rose declared.

"Of what all?"

"The killing. They are after our whole species. Testing them to the point of extinction."

"I'm not surprised that there's a hidden species out there, but why do they hunt your species down and not mine?"

"I had no idea that there were werewolves out there, and if your implying that you'd rather have them hunt you down, go ahead take it. I don't want it."

Will sighed, "Just tell me why you need me in all of this," He asked.

Rose waited to find the words. She would open her mouth and close it quickly, second guessing her wording.

"Do you need me or not?" He spoke again.

Why did she need him? Of course she couldn't answer that, she couldn't answer half the shit that was going through her mind right now. She came up with a quick excuse,"yes of course I do! You scared off the bear before it ate me to pieces. You protected me," hoping to sweet talk him into joining her.

"Fine!" He yelled out as her eyes pleaded for him to say yes. "You got me all tied up brown eyes," he sarcastically joked.

"Brown eyes?" Rose asked, confused why he had called her that.

"Well those eyes of yours are different, and I don't even know your name."

"Rosalind but everybody calls me-," she was about to say Rose as he interrupted her.

"Rosie, how bout I call you Rosie? It suits you."

"I've never been called Rosie before," she said as she tilted her head sideways and thought about it, "and what is your name."

"Will," he lent out a hand for her to shake it.

She took the hand and shook it firmly. As of that, they made their way to the Hunters.
