Where Did I Go Wrong

the "Inspired By A Song" competition. My story was inspired by the song "How To Save A Life" by The Fray. My story is about a girl (Dawn) struggling to fight depression and her best friend (Caelan) who is trying his hardest to understand her and help her through it. Life is full of ups and downs, some people experience it more than others. But that is why we have to find a way to get through it.
“By letting it go, it all gets done. The world is won by those who let it go. But when you try and try, the world is beyond winning.” -Lao Tzu

1. Step One (Prologue)

I paint a pretty picture.

A picture with a twist.

The paintbrush is a razor blade.

The canvas is my wrist.

See the world through my eyes for once. See the beauty, see the fear. See the bitterness. See the pain. Sometimes I can't take it. Sometimes I want to take all the pills, and just let it all go. Sometimes I want to take the razor blades to my wrist, and bleed out all my problems. I can't even start my story without breaking down and crying until I can't cry anymore. I was diagnosed with depression when I was 12. My family had gotten in this severe car crash and I had managed to survive with a broken leg and a long gash down my right arm. After the crash, I felt myself getting deeper and deeper into my own pit of sadness. The only person that had pulled me out of the pit for a while was my best friend, Caelan. Caelan and I met briefly before the crash. After the accident though, Caelan was my savior. He gave me a place to stay and a family to love me. But I never got used to my new "family." Everyday I wished to be with my family again. Every few days I would lock myself in the bathroom and take out the razor blades, cutting long, thin lines across my wrists. I've been to therapy, I've been to the hospital, I've taken meds. It helps a little to ease the pain, but its hard to mend something that has been broken for a very long time.
