19. An Apology and A Rant

Okay, first of all. I'm sorry for being totally inactive for the last twenty days. I'm not going to be one of those users that used to be a major contributor to the site and then suddenly disappears. Nope, not me. I've just updated three of my works not including this one if you're wondering. (A little bit of disguised advertising there.) I do plan to be regularly on the site. If a time comes when I'm going to be completely unavailable, or if I leave forever, I will make sure to let people know. Of course, I don't see the latter happening in the near future.

By the way, I'm a new editor ambassador. So, in the words of London Tipton, yay me!

Anyway, enough about me. Let's move on to the rant. Has anyone noticed how shockingly bad the blurbs are for some of these fan-fics? I'm not going to paste examples here, because I don't want to read that stuff again. Let me just tell you how they usually are:

Darcy is a One Direction fan. She goes to a concert with her best friend Mandi. There she meets someone she never expected. Will she fall in love or will it...

No, I can't do it anymore. I can't write blurbs like that. I admit, I completely suck at writing blurbs. Most people have probably realized that already. I try to hide behind it by limiting my blurbs to as few words as possible. Don't know how well that's working out. But at least I'm trying something, experimenting and what-not.

A blurb is basically something to draw the reader in. Make it unique and suspenseful. I'm going to openly admit something to you guys today. I detest Twilight on an atomic level. If you love it, go ahead. Just don't shove your Edward-love in my face because I will retaliate. Anyway, one of the biggest turn-offs about Twilight for me is how Stephenie Meyer reveals that Edward is a vampire in the blurb, but she doesn't reveal it in the book until after one-third of the book. There is no point to all the hints and the suspense giving! We already know, Ms. Meyer! We already know! We are basically snoring as Bella slowly connects the dots at a snail-pace!

Okay, I'm not being a hypocrite here. I know that I don't write good blurbs. But I know a good one when I see it. Some examples of good blurbs below:

Well, that's all for today, folks.

Regards,

Mina
