41. Epilogue ~ Parker

Epilogue ~ Parker

"Louis, are you coming?" I ask.

"No," he scowls. "Why would I? Zayn and Niall are staying back, I don't feel like becoming the fiftth wheel."

I shrug. "I was just wondering. It's going to be fun and you don't have a lot of that lately."

"Yeah well..." He trails off.

"We miss you," I say quietly, putting in my left earring. I am already dressed and ready to go.

Louis just looks at me with hooded eyes before he rolls over and faces the wall. I sigh, and leave the room to let Louis be on the couch alone.

You would think he would be over Eleanor, right? It's not like I would know, I have never been in a two year relationship. I have never been cheated on but I can imagine. "Liam!" I call.

"Yeah?" He comes from our bedroom and looks amazing. I smile, take his hand and gently press my lips to his.

"Are you ready to go?"

"Yeah, just let me get my coat. It's by the door."

Our fingers intertwine as we leave the apartment, our hands swinging back and forth between us. Liam starts the car and we drive off, meeting Harry and Amabel at the restaurant Harry picked out. It's Friday night and the streets are busy, causing us to move slowly and take longer than expected. I assume Liam is going to complain about the traffic or honk his horn; however, he does neither. Instead, he places a hand on my thigh and gives it a squeeze. I smile over at him and he winks, turning on the radio and humming along to a song I've never heard. "Have you talked to Garrett recently?" He asks and I flinch.

"Not since last week." I reply without breaking my gaze from the buildings outside the window.

After the unpleasant meeting from with my parents when I was with Liam and Louis, I got a call from my mother about two weeks ago. At first I was reluctant to answer but Liam said I should. My mother told me her and my dad were moving to  Raleigh, but I am not welcome to come. Garrett was not mentioned in the conversation by her and I did not bring him up. After we hung up the phone I emailed Garrett and let him know, knowing my mother would never call him to inform him of her moving. I do not plan on moving with them, I am staying here with Liam and will follow him anywhere he goes. When he leaves for tour, which he does next week, I will be joining him. Normally I would stay here and go to school, but I have nowhere and no one stay. Liam is my lifeline and that still scares me a little bit. If he is no longer in my life I will have almost no one to turn to. The other boys and Amabel say they will take care of me, but I don't want them, I only want Liam. But I'm not as scared as I once was, no. Liam has helped me and I love him more than I can put into words. I don't really mind that I am so dependent on him because he is dependent on me as well. The other person will not know how much they mean to the other, but that's why we're good for each other.

"I'm proud of you, you know," Liam says to me, pulling me back.

"For what?"

"Everything. You handled the situation with you mum so well, I don't think I could ever do that."

"Well I didn't do it alone," I smile, grabbing his hand. "Thank you."

"You're welcome, babe. I love you."

"And I love you," I reply. "Are we there yet?"

"Yes, they should be there already." Liam parks the car and our hands link once more as we walk inside. It's strange, really. We are almost always touching somehow. It's a nice reassurance, a sign that's he's still there.

He opens the door for me and when we get inside Harry and Amabel wave us over to their table by the window. The sun is setting and it gives the place a nice glow, I blush when Liam pulls out my chair for me. I am still getting used to his kind and romantic gestures, he's so sweet. I am not complaining, I am not used to it is all. "What's good here?" I ask Harry, glancing at the menu. I'm not sure what style of food they serve here but everything looks appealing.

"Everything, really." Harry answers, drinking some of his water.

"Did you do something with your hair?" I ask him.

"What? Oh, not really. I just...I put some gel in it or something, I don't know." Harry says slowly. He does that a lot.

"I think it looks sexy." Amabel smiles and pushes a little back from Harry's face.

"Thanks, babe." He grins and kisses her cheek. She grabs his hand and I look away.

"Do you think my hair is sexy?" Liam says in my ear. I giggle, and look at his blonde-brown hair, it's also gelled and pushed back, it's actually very sexy.

"Yes, I do, did you do it yourself?" I smile.

Liam laughs. "No, I can't do my hair for my life, babe. Lou did it before I came home."

"Oh, well since you asked, it does look good." I compliment him.

"You guys are weird," Harry says. I glare at him

"We're weird? You guys are the ones feeding each other bread." I scoff.

"Hey! This is good and he's adorable, so...." Amabel defends him.

"And I like the way she looks at me when she does it, her lips, just..." Harry says and Amabel clamps her hand over his mouth.

"Harry!" She scolds and I cover my ears.

"Ewww!" I complain and Liam shakes his head.

"Mate, we're in public."

"Sorry," Harry chuckles, but shoots Amabel a wink. I grimace. Harry and his dirty mouth....

"This is the weirdest double date I have ever been on." Liam mutters.

Amabel and I laugh and Harry just eats more bread. "So Louis didn't want to come?" Amabel asks me.

"No, he wanted to stay home. I don't blame him really, it would have been a little rude to rub our relationships in his face after his ended so poorly." I say. "But he never goes out anymore, you've got to feel bad for him."

"I do," Amabel says and Harry and Liam nod. "I just hope he finds someone."

"He will," Harry says. "It's going to take more than some fit girl to get him out of bed, though."

The table goes silent but the waitress comes and takes our order. It's obvious she knows who the boys are but doesn't say anything until we are asking for our check. One of her co-workers takes the picture and she thanks us. The food was really good and I praise Harry for having us come here. Harry and Amabel go their separate ways and I look forward to the next time we do this, it's a good time to go out with friends and forget all that's happening around us.

The drive home takes even longer than the ride there and I groan. "It's okay, babe. We've got nowhere to be."

"But Louis is home and I don't want him to be alone for long." I whine.

"Parker, he'll be fine. I love it that you care about him so much, but he's a big boy. He can handle being alone for two hours." Liam half-smiles.

"I know," I slump in my seat and turn on the radio. I take out my phone. My finger hovers on the Twitter app, before I open it. My mentions and inbox are inundated with messages. I bite my lip as I read some.

"What are you doing?" Liam asks suspiciously.

"Nothing....I'm on Twitter." I sigh.

"Babe..." Liam starts. I can tell by the look he's giving me that he does not advocate me going on, but I can handle it...I think.

"No, Liam. It's okay. I'm handling it."

"If you're not you need to tell me," he says sternly.

"Thank you, but it's really okay." I am not lying. I am becoming better at handling all those hurtful words I know are there. I turn to Liam and he does not hesitate to comfort me, that's why I can open that app and know everything is going to be okay.

"Okay..." He sighs.

"Let's take a picture." I randomly say. "I want to tweet it."

"Are you sure?" Liam looks over at me, worried.

"Liam, it's just a picture. I am not ashamed of this and I know you aren't, so let's take one. Just one, I promise. "Whatever they are going to say, they're going to say it out of love. Obviously I love you more but your fans care about you. You have got to appreciate their dedication...well it's more like obsession."

Liam smiles and since we are not moving anytime soon in this traffic, I clap my hands and hold out my phone so both of us are in the frame. Liam leans over and kisses my cheek. I snap the picture without really thinking about it. "Let me see," Liam says.

"Wait, no! This is so bad!" I protest. "We have to redo it."

"But you said one picture."

"Fine," I huff, and hand it to him. His lips are against my cheek and my eyes are shut, a smile on my face. My hair is down and we look...happy. "I actually kind of like it."

"Me too, it's my favorite." Liam says and grabs my hand. I set the picture as my background on my phone and tweet it with this caption:

@Harrison_Parker:

Stuck in traffic... with this cutie. :) @Real_Liam_Payne pic.twitter.com/ajbdoabfbdf882

I hesitate before pressing "send" and Liam looks over at me. "Okay?" He asks.

"Yeah," I smile, and as my mentions are blowing up, I close the app and turn off my phone, blocking out the messages that I know will try to make me doubt my relationship. What they don't know is that's impossible, nothing in the world, no words will make me love Liam Payne any less.

Once again, our fingers intertwine and I smile, thinking that I could stay in this car forever. I don't need anything else besides Liam, and I know he feels the same way from the squeeze my hand receives from his. I could throw my phone out of this car window and it wouldn't make a difference. In battle, I am his armor and he is my shield. I protect his heart and he protects me from other people's cruel intentions. This love that we have will be a fight, the world against the two of us.

This fight will not be easy, but it sure as hell will be worth it.
