6. Rocking Night

"That was very nice of Bass" Viktor tells me.

"Yeah I know, right?" I respond.

Bass comes back a couple minutes later with four huge slices of pizza. I thank him and smile.

"So," he starts, "are you nervous about who 'the Devil' is going to pair you with?"

"Ehh.... Sort of. I mean there are a lot of good people in the class and then there are the... Not so good people..." I say.

Viktor adds "Yeah. I would hate to be stuck with Carmelo."

We all nod at this and Bass says "I get what you mean. I hope I get someone smart, Like you for example." His face is a little questioning about that last part.

We sit there in silence until Viktor gets up and goes to the jukebox. Uncle Jo's s this old shack the has booths lining the walls and in the middle, there is a section that people use as a dance floor. There is the old jukebox that everyone loves because it has all the good old songs.

Viktor goes and puts his dime in and pushes a button. 'Anyway You Want' It by Journey comes on. That is my song. I walk to Viktor and we dance this dance that we made up years ago. I start singing and I look like a complete fool but soon people start dancing and clapping and singing with us. It is so much fun.

The song goes off and someone puts another dime in and plays 'Paradise City' by Guns N' Roses. We all start rocking out again to all the classics like Juke Box Hero, Hit Me With Your Best Shot and I Love Rock And Roll.

After dancing for like a half an hour, I go and sit with Bass who is watching the mass of people dancing.

"I didn't know you liked rock and roll" he says.

"There's a lot you don't know about me" I say, "My dad played it in the car and at home all the time. You could say that I grew up on rock and roll."

"Well the man has great taste in music."

"Yeah he did." He sits there and looks... Left out. So I say "come on, let's go dance."

"No, it's ok. You go."

I get up and pull him to his feet. we walk out to the dance floor and I go over to the jukebox. I pick a song that everyone loves. 'Here I Go Again' by Whitesnake. I go up to him, lip sinking and he starts laughing. I start dancing and he finally joins in and we are both laughing our heads off. He goes and picks a song, a classic.

All the people in the place start singing the lyrics.

Just a small town girl
Livin' in a lonely world
She took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere
Just a city boy
Born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train
Goin' anywhere

A singer in a smokey room
A smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on

We all are dancing and doing our air guitar and acting like we are the best rock stars ever. It has seriously the best night of my life. After the song ends, I go and sit down. People continue to dance and sing and I watch them. I check my phone and it reads 10:22 pm. I have to be home by 11pm because of my curfew. Viktor is dancing with Alex and he is my ride home. I walk over to him and tell him we have to go. He nods and says his goodbye to Alex, which consists of a kiss on the cheek.
