Chapter 19

-Liam’s POV-

I woke up with Niall in my arms in our new flat. I can still remember the adorable look in his eyes when he saw the place. I was so happy he loved it. I had specifically picked it out just for him. I had no idea if he would even be moving with me, but I had him in mind. His father gave me and him a lecture before we left. He asked Niall to get a job in the music industry. I think that’s a great idea, Niall is an amazing musician, even though he was deaf most of his life. I can tell he is hesitant and has no idea if he will be any good. I haven’t seen him play the guitar before, but from what I’ve heard he’s amazing. It’s my first day on campus today, Niall is going to go out and look for a job, and I hope he listens to his dad. I know he is going to be fabulous.

I’m a little nervous, I haven’t seen the campus before and from the pictures online it looks huge. Our flat is part of the dorms but it’s in an apartment complex across from the school. It’s kind of confusing but it really doesn’t matter.

I glanced at the clock, 5:30 AM. I let out a soft sigh and attempted to roll out from under Niall who was laying with his head on my chest. His mouth was slightly agape, soft snores coming from him. He was a cutie when he slept. I love to just watch him sleep, as creepy as that seems. But I can’t today, I have to actually do something. As I slowly scrambled out from under him I noticed him sigh. His eyes fluttered before two blue orbs looked back at me. He smiled as I leaned in and kissed the tip of his nose.

“Morning babe.” I breathed. He blushed and yawned.

“Morning.” He smiled. I hugged him close to me before I got up out of bed. I pulled on some sweats and walked out to the kitchen. I heard the light thump of his feet on the hardwood floor as he got up out of bed and wandered into the kitchen. I turned and smiled at the sight of him. He was wearing grey sweats low on his hips and no shirt. His blonde hair, that now had dark brown roots since he hasn’t dyed it in a few weeks, was disheveled. He was rubbing his left eye and yawning as he walked. He looked like a five year old, but in a sexy way…

“When’s your first class?” He asked sitting down at our small round table we placed in the corner of the tiny kitchen.

“7:30. I have a little while. Why?” I asked grabbing the Cocoa Puffs and a bowl. He shrugged grabbing a banana out of the small fruit bowl on the table. I brought over the milk and made myself some cereal.

“Have you decided where you’re going to look for a job first?” I asked taking a bite of cereal. He chewed the bite of banana he took before speaking.

“There’s a music shop in town, they had a ‘help wanted’ sign out front. I thought I’d look there first.” I nodded finishing off my cereal. I took my bowl to the sink and rinsed it before putting it in the dish washer. I walked back into our room to change. It felt odd to live with Niall, I was so used to him always being with me, but it’s different. All his stuff is here now instead of him just having a bag with clothes. It’s weird in a good way though. I grabbed a plaid button up and jeans changing into them and buttoning up my shirt. I found my book bag and started to pack it for the day. Once I was ready I looked to see it was already 6:45. I sighed and went back out to the living room. Niall was on the couch flipping through the stations. His eyes glanced up at me.

“Are you off?” He asked I nodded. He placed the remote on the table before scurrying over to where I was standing.

“Have a great first day baby.” He purred placing his soft plump lips on mine. I smiled and kissed him back enjoying the feeling of his lips on mine. When he pulled away a small whine left my lips. He smirked.

“There’s more where that came from later okay?” He smirked I nodded eagerly making him chuckle.

“Good luck job hunting!” I say grabbing my shoes and walking to the door putting them on while I walked. He sighed and nodded. I gave him an encouraging smile before stepping out of the apartment and walking down the street heading to the school.

I got to my lessons with 10 minutes to spare. I haven’t seen anyone I know yet so I have no idea if I’ll know anyone from here. I doubt it. Most people want to go away for college, but I didn’t want to. I walked into my English class and sat down in the front. A short boy with red hair and freckles walked over to the seat beside me. He sat down taking out his binders and pens. I glanced over and noticed he pulled out a book. I nearly gasped when I noticed what book it was. It was To Kill A Mockingbird. That’s one of my favorite books in the world. I hadn’t realized I was staring until he spoke.

“You like this book?” He asked, his voice deeper than I had expected. I jumped and my eyes looked into his green eyes. I was at a loss of words.

“Uh, Yea. It’s one of my all-time favorites” I speak finally finding my voice. He smiles and I feel something melt inside me. His smile is gorgeous it’s not too big and awkward, it’s more like a soft subtle smile that could make the harshest of men soften.

“I’m David” He sticks out his hand for me to shake. I smile and shake his hand. It’s softer than I had expected, I guess he moisturizes. Wow Liam, that’s such a weird thing to be thinking about when you shake someone’s hand. Gosh.

“I’m Liam. It’s nice to meet you” I smile he nods his crooked smile getting slightly bigger. He looked like he was going to say something but then a woman walked in. She had a black pencil skirt and black jacket on. She had her blonde hair pulled back into a bun. She looked to be in her mid to late thirties. She stood up in the front of the room waiting for the class to quiet.

“Good morning guys. I’m Mrs. Stevenson. I will be your English teacher this semester. I only ask for you to have a journal. We will be writing journal entries at least once a day so please don’t forget them.” She smiled. She seemed nice enough. I think I could like this class. For our first day she had us mainly chat with each other about the English courses we had taken in our pasts and also what we plan to do in our English careers. I learned David wants to be a writer and is currently writing a first draft to a novel about a young boy from the south who has to take care of his alcoholic of a father. It sounds like a sad but amazing story.

David and I had almost all the same classes today and we stuck with each other. He seems like a great guy, he always knows how to make me laugh. After classes he had to head off to work but he gave me his number and promised he’d call me later. He seems like a great friend. My first day was actually pretty good. I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

-Niall’s POV-

After Liam left I jumped into the shower before I changed into a blue polo shirt and black jeans, and headed out in search of a job. I grabbed my wallet, shoving it into my back pocket, and walked down to the bus stop at the end of the street. I didn’t feel comfortable taking Liam’s car, I haven’t been driving all that long so I didn’t want to be stressing about crashing or something.

I took the gross city bus that was infested with odd people who smelled like they hadn’t bathed in months, maybe years, into town. I was stuck dodging some homeless man asking me if I’d like my muffin buttered… whatever that means.

I walked down the busy streets looking for anywhere that needed help. Wolverhampton was a small town, but it had a lot of small stores that were always looking for help. But of course, today’s not my lucky day. Most places that needed workers were bars, I didn’t feel like dealing with drunks, and odd little stores that sold weird knick knacks.

I decided to stick with my original plan and go straight to the music store in the middle of town. It was called ‘Adam’s drums and musical wonders’ but everyone just call’s it ‘Adam’s’. The store was small but held a lot, which was surprising. From the outside it was old and rundown looking. The white paint on the small building was peeling and chipping off the walls, and some of the electric letters in the sign were out making it read ‘Dam’s Rum’s Nd sic Der’s’. Maybe I should tell them their signs broken… But when you got inside the tiny building it was completely different.

They had hundreds of guitars lined up on all the walls ranging from electric to acoustic and so many more. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this many guitars, or instruments in one building before. They had drums all over the floor, ranging from big too small. Any instrument you could think of was sitting somewhere in this store.

I walked around looking over everything, just taking in the wonder of this store, I guess you could say I was ‘Fanboying’. Then a tall boy with dark brown hair that fell into his eyes, and tanned skin tapped my shoulder. I spun around to see him smiling at me, he had a name tag that read Adam. He must be the owner. He was wearing a Sex Pistols T-shirt that he had cut the sleeves off of and dark blue skinny jeans that had rips running through them in random places letting me see his red plaid boxers poking out slightly. He looked like he belonged in a punk band.

“Hi! How can I help you today?” He smiled. His eyes scanned me for a second. I blushed not liking his eyes all over me. His entire image, bad-boy rocker, changed from him just speaking. His voice was soft and pleasant, his smile lighting up his entire face. He didn’t seem that scary anymore.

“Hi, I’m Niall. I noticed you had a help wanted sign out front. I wanted to know if I could apply here.” I asked trying to sound as professional as possible. He grinned.

“Sure thing. So do you have any musical talents?” He asked. I bit my lip.

“I don’t think I’m very good, but yea I play some guitar and piano.” I sigh. He laughs and nods motioning for me to follow him.

“Let’s put that to the test then.” He turned and walked to the back wall grabbing down an acoustic guitar with engravings of random shapes all along the neck and body of the instrument. I gulped and reached for the guitar sitting on the small stool on the floor for people to try out the guitars. I racked my brain for any songs, coming up with the most simple.

I played the first two versus of How to Save a Life by The Fray. I didn’t look up at Adam as I played, I was worried I sucked at playing the song. When I finally stopped playing I heard a crowd of people clapping. I looked up and blushed, the entire store had formed a small circle around me and were applauding me. I hadn’t realized how many people were actually in the store.

“You’re amazing! You’re hired. Could you maybe teach guitar?” He asked taking the guitar from me and placing it back on the wall with the others. My eyes grew huge. Seriously? Me? Teach guitar? I don’t think I could do that, but I really need the money… My mind had an inner battle for half a second until I decided.

“Sure. I guess, if you think I’m good enough to do it that is.” I say running a hand through my hair and down the back of my neck. I really don’t think I should be teaching people anything, but if he thinks I can do it, and I’ll be paid for it, then sure I’ll give it a shot.

“For sure! You can start tomorrow at 9.” He grins. I smile back at him and nod. I stand up and shake his hand.

“Thank you so much! I’ll be here tomorrow.” I smile before walking out of the store and strolling down the street. Liam should be getting out of school soon I can’t wait to tell him my good news.
