I'm A Survivor

Carson has a difficult life; his father leaving him, his brother having ADHD and having problems of his own. But when he meets Nora, he finally understood that he had something to fight for.

My interpretation of the song 'Wings' by Little Mix.

"Well Carson," says the doctor, with a look off concern on his face, making his hopes fade a little, "you are now cancer free!"

He looks at the doctor for a second and after it processes, he jumps up and yells in joy. He pulls his doctor into a hug and then his mother, who is now crying.

"See? I told you I could to it. I did it!! I beat cancer!!"

"Yes my little butterfly, you beat cancer. You didn't let what the doctors tell you slow you down one bit. I always believed in you!"

"Good bye, doc. I told you that I would beat this and now you won’t have to look at my bald head ever again!"

The doctor laughs and says "I knew deep down that you were stronger than any cancer. But you will have to come back in about 3 months just to make sure that the cancer is gone."

He smiled and him and his mom walked out of the office. Cheering and smiling. She takes him out to lunch and tells him that he can go home if he want.

"No mama. I have one more thing that I need to face before I go home. Can you take me to school?"

"I will take you wherever you want, baby." We drive out and take that 47 minutes ride to the high school. He takes his backpack, and walk into the school. The foyer is crowed from lunch and he takes a deep breath and do something that he has wanted to do for two years. He dropped his bag and yells at the top of his lungs 'I am cancer free. I beat cancer!' Heads turn to look at him and all he can do is smile. Then all of a sudden, someone starts clapping and then other join in. Soon the whole room erupts into cheering and clapping and he just stands there. People come up to him and high-five him and congratulate him, even hug him. Nora comes running up and hugs him so hard that he can't breathe. All Carson can do is hug her back and start cheering with the rest of the school.

"I have something to show you" she whispers into his ear and takes him by the hand, leading him towards the music wing and into a piano room.

"What’s up?" he asks.

"Just sit down."

He sits and she goes over to the piano. She sits and starts playing a beautiful melody and then starts singing.

Mama told me not to waste my life

She said spread your wings my little butterfly

Don't let what they say keep you up at night

And if they give you shh...

Then they can walk on by

My feet, feet can't touch the ground

    And I can't hear a sound

But you just keep on running up your mouth, yeah

    Walk, walk on over there

'Cause I'm too fly to care, oh yeah

Your words don't mean a thing

    I'm not listening

Keep talking, all I know is

Mama told me not to waste my life

She said spread your wings my little butterfly

Don't let what they say keep you up at night

    And they can't detain you

'Cause wings are made to fly

And we don't let nobody bring us down

No matter what you say it won't hurt me

Don't matter if I fall from the sky

These wings are made to fly

"That was beautiful, Nora."

She blushes and says in response "It's not finished but I wanted you to hear what I had so far."

"I love it. How did you think of it?"

"I had some inspiration.... And I also wanted to tell you that... I trust you " She winks and they walk out of the room. He looks at her with such happiness that he can't contain himself.

He stops her and presses her to the wall. He looks at her and says "you know what has to happen know, right?"

"What?"

"You owe me a date. It was what kept me going through this last month. I needed to beat this and have you trust me. So what do you say? You, me, dinner? I’ll pick you up at 7?"

She looks up at him and doesn't think before doing. She takes his face in her hand, goes up on her tip toes and kisses him lightly in the lips.

"I guess that's a yes" exclaims Carson, clearly happy with her way of answering. They walk you into the foyer and people start congratulating him. Teachers, students, staff members and even some parents who are there. He looks up and silently says 'Thank you' to God.
