9. Chapter 8

"Peyton," Justin was slowly pulling her off of him. He wiped the last of her tears from her now red and puffy face and smiled down at her. "Everything's fine, you don't have to cry."

She frowned, but nodded. Her arms found their way around his torso again. He rubbed her back and rested his cheek on the top of her head lightly.

"It's okay." He said. "Colton's gone."

"I know." Peyton managed to say. "He said he loved me, Justin. Tell me you love me, please, because I know you mean it."

Peyton's heart shattered when Justin said nothing. He stopped rubbing her back and she pulled away from him suddenly. Her eyes met his and she noticed that they were glazed over, like he wasn't comprehending anything. She brought her hand up to his cheek.

"Justin?" She whispered. "You do love me, right?"

Justin sighed and got up from the floor. He brushed the dust off of his pants, running a hand through his tousled hair after he did so. As he turned away from her, Peyton managed to get up and grab his wrist.

She spun him around so he was facing her again. "Justin Drew Bieber. You do love me, right?"

Justin studied her with an unreadable expression. "Yes." He finally said. "But we can't be together anymore."

"We can't be together," Justin shrugged away from her now loose grip on his wrist. "Saying goodbye is the most painful way to solve a problem, I know. You don't know how hard this is, but I don't want you to be put in any more danger."

"Danger?" Peyton said. "Justin, you're not thinking straight. We're always going to be in danger now, but who cares? Justin, I love you, please, stop saying those things."

He shook his head. "No, Peyton. I have to leave, otherwise you'll get hurt."

"You're hurting me right now!" She yelled. "Can you hear my heart cracking?"

"Ryan will take you home," was all he said. "I have to stay here and clean up all of this."

Peyton's mouth was parted slightly, but she said nothing as she pushed passed him--making it a point to brush her shoulder with his as she did so--and made her way up the stairs. Ryan followed her all the way to the car.

She got in, slamming the car door behind her. She buckled her seat belt and leaned back in the seat.

"Where are we going?" She asked.

"Home," Ryan said.

"Which is?"

"I don't know." He said. "Wherever your family is."

"Family?" She spat. "You guys are my fucking family! I just went through basically five years of emotional trauma, killed two people, and now my boyfriend broke up with me and my best friend says he isn't my friend anymore. Ryan," She said, calmer now. "You're like my brother. I don't want to go back to my real brother."

"Do you know where he is?" He said, giving her a sidelong glance.

She caught a glimpse of his eyes, which were glossy. For a moment, she thought that he'd cave in, but he didn't. With a sigh, she said: "Yes, I do." She told him the address and he sped off down the road. She sighed again and closed her eyes, wanting nothing more than to die right then and there.

"Hi Braden." Peyton said in a small voice. Braden's mouth was gaping and he was staring down at her like she was a foreign object. He was definitely taller since the last time she'd seen him. He was skinnier, too; and he had more facial hair. He'd grown so much, and he looked so much different.

"What..." He started to say before his gaze rested on Ryan, and then back on Peyton. "Why are you here? How did you get here? Where have you been for the past five years, and why did you all of a sudden just decide to get in touch now?"

Peyton took a shaky breath, and smiled at her brother. "I'll explain, I promise. It's just...I'm having some housing problems, and I was wondering if I could stay with you for a while?"

Braden took no hesitation in nodding. "Of course you can," He held out his arms upon noticing Peyton's expression of pain. "Come here."

She did. She wrapped her arms around him and they stayed that way while Peyton let a few tears fall. After a while, Ryan cleared his throat.

"I better get going," He said. "Stay safe."

And then he was gone. Just like that. Justin was gone, and now Ryan. The Prezlocki's were gone, too. At least Peyton had her brother back, right? Her life would go back to normal and she'd never be in danger again.

In a way, she was thanking Justin; even though she knew she'd never stop missing him.

"So," Braden said as they stepped into the apartment. "Will you tell me everything? I've missed you a lot."

Peyton nodded and took his hand in hers. "I'll tell you. But I'll only tell you once--because I never want to revisit those memories--so you better be listening."

Yoooo wassup homies? LOL sorry. But seriously, how's it going? Are you sad? Are you angry? Are you going to kill me? DON'T KILL ME.

I'll explain.

If you noticed, I changed the Prologue to "Part One". That's because I've come to the conclusion that this movella is going to have parts (probably three) and Part Two will most likely be the next eight chapters after I post the "Part Two" chapter (which is a prologue to that part in the story, basically)

Love you guys! xoxo
