Snow in September

*Sequel to Summer Love
Emily & Sarah return to New York after a long Irish summer. In their 2 month adventure, the girls got close to the lads of One Direction, Emily especially close to Niall. The girls tested their friendship as Sarah got upset & jealous of Emily. Now back for their junior year, the girls face even more hardships as they begin to drift & cling on to the last strand. The girls go to one last 1D concert in hopes of saving their friendship. Bit when Emily is asked to tour with her favorite band, will that be the end of their friendship?

8. Restless Nights

Sleeping over at Sarah's house used to be so much fun. We would stay up all night and just talk about anything and everything. But now, we could hardly hold a conversation with more than two syllables.

I got up from the bed in her spare room and sat on the window seat. This window always had the best view from her apartment, overlooking the city. I curled up and wrapped my arms around my knees and rested my chin on my arms, looking out the windows. I heard a faint giggle coming from Sarah's room and I sighed as tears started forming.

It was no use. Our friendship was beyond repair and I was done trying. I looked over and saw my phone flashing. I got up and padded over to the nightstand and grabbed my phone.

Just a little over 2 months until I see your beautiful face again

I smiled at the text message from Niall. These next two months were going to be torture not seeing him, but at least I had Taylor and all my other Winchester friends to help me through it.

Taylor. At least I had Taylor in my life. It's been a little weird not talking to her, but when I get back to Winchester everything will definitely be back to normal.

I lay back in bed and stare at the ceiling attempting to fall asleep. Eventually I try, but it feels like only minutes have passed before it wake up again to get back to school.

I peer into Sarah's room and see that she's still asleep. I grab my bags and quietly make my way to the kitchen.

"Good morning dear, sleep well?"

"Yeah, thank you again for having me. It was nice seeing you."

"Oh you're welcome any time! Are you sure you're fine taking a cab to the train station and taking a train to school?"

"Yeah it'll be ok. The cab should be here soon, thank you." The last thing I needed was an awkward car ride with my ex best friend's mother. That would lead to unnecessary and uncomfortable friendship conversations.

"Oh, darling." She gave me a hug and I awkwardly hugged her back. "Here at least take a bagel." She handed me a bagel wrapped in tinfoil and patted me on the head. I hesitantly grabbed it and smiled.

"Thank you, again Mrs. Virgil." I waved and walked out of the apartment, letting out a breath I've been holding in since yesterday. I walked out of the building and climb into a cab waiting for me. I give the driver the location of the train and pay him after the 15 minute silent ride. Once at the station, I print out my ticket and get ready to board the train. Seated, I pull out my phone and text Niall.

The entire hour long train ride I spent texting him and just venting. I really couldn't stand seeing him for only a little bit every few months. At the Winchester, Taylor is waiting for me. I get off the train and she gives me a big hug.

"I've missed you! How was the concert? How was Sarah? How are the boys? How's Niall?"

"Woah woah woah! Easy tiger! I've only been gone for a day!"

"It feels like an eternity!" We link arms and leave the station, where there's a car waiting for us. The car takes us to a Panera Bread that is just a few blocks off of campus. Taylor and I walk in and order our food. We sit down and I tell her all of yesterday's events.

"...she didn't even wake up this morning. She was up late texting Harry." I placed the straw of my iced tea in my mouth and took a sip.

"So they're a thing?"

"Until she gets bored and dumps him..." Taylor makes a "yikes" faces and takes a bite of her sandwich. "Yeah, I know." I roll my eyes, and ask her about her weekend.

"Nothing really. Just planning for this week and getting ready for the winter musical. You should audition."

"Not if you're directing!"

"Hey! I'm student directing. We have a broadway director come for the musicals. And I wouldn't be involved in auditions or casting!"

"What's the musical going to be?"

"Think we can pull it off?"

"We do it every 4 years, I think we can pull it off!" Rent is my favorite musical. Despite some of the inappropriateness and profanities, it was such an amazing story and I would love to perform it. "Auditions are on Friday." She hands me a packet with information and sheet music. The audition piece for Mimi was Light My Candle and I've had that memorized since I first heard it.

"This is way too exciting oh my!" I looked over the packet and couldn't stop smiling. Taylor and I finished our lunch and took our time walking back to campus. Once there, we went directly to the music room to practice for the musical. I had Niall on FaceTime throughout the entire rehearsal session because it was the closest to actually have him there.

Finally by the end of the day I fell asleep in my dorm in a matter of seconds. And it was the best sleep I had in a while.
