Chapter 33

"Harry. Don't please!" I wailed to the curly-haired boy, who threatened to tackle me in the water. It was pretty cold, and I didn't want to freeze.

"Come on! What are you afraid of? It's just water!" he asked.

"Um, freezing to death," I gulped, "and um, dying."

Harry laughed. "Water isn't scary!"

"I don't know man. I don't like it very much either." Zayn said nervously.

"I'm not afraid of the water, Harry." I folded my arms across my chest. "I just don't want to get wet."

"Zayn's just a baby." Niall sniggered.

"I am not!" the black-haired boy protested.

"What twenty year-old is afraid of water?" Sam joked, and everyone laughed.

Zayn just pouted and sat at the edge of the water. Well someone was moody. Then again, Zayn always was.

"SURPRISE ATTACK!" Harry screamed, and tackled me into the water. I screamed, and held on to him for dear life.

"HAROLD!" I bellowed when I broke the surface of the water. I was freezing, my teeth chattering and my skin forming goose bumps.

Harry just tilted his head back and laughed dimples visible from a mile away. He looked so cute with his hair flopping over his eyes and dripping wet. His lips were a dark pink thanks to the cold water.

"Water's not so much fun is it?" Zayn snapped from the sand.

"Twat," Liam muttered.

"Louis! Stop it!" Eleanor screamed at her boyfriend. He had splashed her when she told him she didn't want to get wet, but being Louis Tomlinson, he had to. She seemed pretty angry despite the smile playing at her lips.

The sun was setting, leaving us floating in the water. Leaving here wouldn't be easy. It felt like a place where anything happen. Speaking of that, Sam had never told me what had happened when she and Niall went up to the house that one time alone.

"Sam? Can I talk to you?" I asked, and started for the beach. "Dani and El, come with?"

"Uh, sure?" she muttered and followed me.

"So," I began and made sure that no one could hear us. "Did you ask Niall?"

Sam immediately flushed and stared at the ground, her toes becoming interesting. "Um, yeah." She drew random shapes in the sand with her feet.

"He said yes!" she grinned and started jumping up and down.

"Oh my god, so are you two like, official?" I asked, and I was so happy for her that I couldn't stand still. She had had a crush on Niall for the longest time.

"Not yet. We aren't going to go public yet, either. Niall is most likely telling the lads right now." When we looked over to the water, Sam was right. The boys were all talking excitedly in a tight circle, and occasionally one of them would look over here. I flashed Harry a smile, one that he returned.

"I'm so happy for you guys!" Eleanor squealed, and gave Sam a hug, and then Dani and I joined in too. Now all four of were dating someone from One Direction.

"Welcome to the Official One Direction girlfriend club." said Danielle.

"The what?" Sam cocked her head to one side.

"The girlfriend club!" El exclaimed. "All of us are best friends, and nothing could separate us. Most of the time we go to the boy's gigs and concerts together."

Sam grinned. "I just really like Niall."

"Well," I smiled, "he's a keeper."

We had been at the beach house for a week already. It seemed to go by so fast. Everything was going great with everything. Sam and Niall were so happy, we couldn't handle being in the same room with them since they would always be kissing or cuddling or touching in some way. It was so cute. I guess they were making up for the time they weren't together, since they had liked each other from the very beginning.

Danielle and Liam are the same way, only it isn't your face. They'll be making out, but in a room where no one else is. The only time you can catch them is by walking in on them. That happened once, and I was really embarrassed. Liam was blushing furiously, and Danielle just smiled sheepishly.

I wonder what that's like, being with the same person for so long. Harry and I were coming up on our 1-year anniversary in a few months, but Danielle and Liam seemed like they had been married for 50 years. They were still so in love it made all doubts of "no such thing as loving someone forever" completely leave my mind. This led me to think of the time Liam tried to kiss me. He was lonely; Danielle was working, being the amazing dancer she is, and he needed someone. I understood that. When Harry and the boys were gone, doing what they love the most, I got lonely too. But I have my three best friends. I forgave Liam, though. We all deserve second chances.

However, I think something's going on with Louis and Eleanor. She appears the same, laughing and looking into his eyes with such love and affection. Louis, though, seemed distant. How I could tell, I have no idea. There just seemed something off about him. His blue eyes didn't sparkle the way they used to when I had met him. I'm pretty sure El didn't notice what I did.

When I asked her about it, she just smiled and said, "Everything's great!" and plopped down on Louis's lap, who gave her a tight smile.

Tonight, we're going bowling, and hopefully I'll get a chance to talk to him. It was 7pm, and a Wednesday night. We had arrived at the beach house last week on a Tuesday. I was in my room, getting dressed in my black jeans, converse, and silver crop-top. I slipped my phone in my pocket and ran downstairs, where everyone was waiting for me.

"Finally!" Louis groaned. "You take forever!"

"Hey!" I protested. "Zayn takes way longer, since he has to style his hair!"

"Oi! It isn't easy doing this." He pointed to his perfectly styled quiff.

"Can we just go? I can't wait to kick all your guys' arses!" Niall grinned.

"You? Kick my arse? Please!" Sam scoffed, and snaked an arm around Niall's waist.

"Loser kisses the winner?"

"You're on!" she screamed, and then bolted for the door. I giggled as I watched Niall burst out laughing and chase after her. "They were so cute."

"You ready to go babe?" Harry asked. I smiled and nodded when he snuck an arm around my waist.

To avoid the fans that were out, Paul picked us up in a huge white van. I slid next to Harry, who sat beside Liam. It was quite cramped, but I didn't mind, mostly because I was half-sitting on Harry's lap. I tried to get comfortable, but it was hard to without punching Liam in the face.

"Sorry, Li," I muttered, and finally rested fully on Harry's lap.

"Are you comfortable yet?" Harry asked sarcastically, but smiled.

"Yes," I smirked, "thanks."

By the time we had arrived at the bowling alley -which was only 15 minutes away- Zayn had managed to fall asleep on Niall's shoulder. I noticed Eleanor stared out the window, but held Louis's hand. He didn't seem to take notice, talking with Danielle about something Liam said. There was something strange about Eleanor, like she didn't...want to hold Louis's hand. Maybe I was crazy, but something was definitely wrong.

"El, are you okay?" I asked, and she snapped her head in my direction. Her eyes seemed out of focus as she forced a tight smile and nodded.

"Something wrong?" asked Louis sweetly, and gently stroked the back of her hand with his thumb. It was such a kind and simple gesture. Louis was so amazing to Eleanor. I couldn't imagine them apart.

"I'm fine." She said quietly, and then resumed staring out the window. Louis threw me a questioning glance, but I shrugged.

"Period," I mouthed to him, and his mouth clamped shut as his cheeks flushed. I giggled, and noticed we had gotten to the bowling alley.

"Call me if anything happens, boys," Paul told us, "You too, girls."

"Thanks Paul." Liam said.

We followed Liam into the building, and saw that only a few people were there. It was a Wednesday night, so we knew many people wouldn't be here. That's why we chose the night we did. The people seemed about in their mid-twenties, so I didn't think they would be a problem. They weren't which was nice. They just carried on with their game, and hardly paid attention to us.

"Who's going to be on what team?" Niall asked.

"How about we do boys against girls?" Louis smirked.

"How is that possible?" I asked. "You have your own score."

Louis pursed his lips. "Whatever. We're having teams."

"Whatever you say, Tomlinson," I scoffed. After finding my bowling shoes, (size 6), I plopped down next to Sam on the bench. "So how are things with you and Niall?" I asked, taking off my shoe.

"They couldn't be better." She grinned, and tied up her left shoe.

"I'm so happy for you guys." I hugged her quickly, and then punched my name into the computer, where it popped up on the screen.

AMABEL it read. After me were Danielle, Sam and then Eleanor. The boys put their names into their computer as well. Going first was Harry. After him was Louis, Zayn, Liam and Niall would be last. I picked up my pink ball and walked over to the lane, where Harry was standing as well, but in front of his lane. He mimicked me by holding the ball the way I was, and jokingly narrowed his eyes at me.

"You're going down." I smirked.

"Only in your sweet dreams, babe."

"Whatever," I rolled my eyes. Taking a deep breath, I rolled the ball down the lane with all my strength. It kept moving straight until the end, all ten pins clattering and falling. Turning to Harry, I couldn't wipe the grin off my face as I said, "What was that about you going down only in my dreams, hu babe?" I twirled a piece of my hair on my finger.

Harry pursed his lips and gave me a glare before throwing his ball down the lane. He hit four. I scoffed and turned to everyone behind me, who were containing their laughter. "Shit," he cursed, and then picked up his ball again. In total he hit nine down.

I walked up to him. "Don't feel bad, babe. You'll get it next time!" I brushed an invisible piece of dust off his shoulder. After kissing his cheek lightly, I skipped back over to the bench, and sat down next to Eleanor. She seems pretty down, so I playfully nudged her arm. Her eyes almost seemed glued to her hands, which were in her lap. "Hey El? Are you okay?"

"Huh- yeah sorry," she muttered, "I-I just..."

"El, tell me what's wrong. Something is obviously wrong with you. Louis is getting worried." I took her under my arm and rubbed her back.

"I-I can't tell you. You'll hate me." She whispered.

I stroked her light brown hair. "I don't think that's possible." I chuckled lightly. She was the nicest person I knew; it was hard to believe she did something as terrible as she put.

"Can we just forget it please? I can't do this here." She looked up at me from under her eyelashes, tears stinging her brown orbs. Just looking up and me, she seemed so fragile.

"Sure, thing. But you're telling me later." I said.

She didn't answer. I felt bad, I let her be. Turns out, the girls were kicking ass. Danielle had gotten a spare, and Sam got eight. Louis and Zayn both got sevens. I thought the boys would do better, but it turns out I was wrong. It was Liam's turn, and even though we were on opposite "teams", Danielle clapped her hands and cheered for Liam, since he went after Zayn. Liam was fantastic. He got a strike; first one for the boys. Danielle ran up and threw her arms around her boyfriend, who pressed his lips to hers. I smiled sweetly at them together. No one was more perfect for each other than they were.

"Hey baby." Harry said next to my ear. I jumped and shrieked and placed a hand over my heart.

"Dammit, Harry! You scared me!"

"Sorry," he smirked, and then slithered into the place next to me.

"You're not supposed to be here." I whispered, bringing my lips to his ear.

His brow furrowed. "What?"

"This is the girl's side. And, as far as I'm concerned, you're not a girl. So, shoo!"

"I'm hurt!" he joked, and quickly planted a kiss on my lips before sitting down next to Zayn on his bench.

The place hadn't got any more crowded than since it was when we arrived. Eleanor picked herself up and was about to take her turn when the door burst open, and six boys, or young men loudly sauntered in.

"El?" one of them asked. Eleanor snapped her head in the guy's direction, and her eyes widened, and then flickered between him and Louis over and over again.

"You know him?" Louis asked, who just as confused as the rest of us. The guy had blonde hair, and was no doubt attractive. His pale green eyes stayed focused on Eleanor, who stared wide-eyed at him. Louis wrapped an arm around her waist, and she flinched and a tear fell. The guy that had just walked in was trouble, from his smirk on his lips and his look-at-me-I-don't-give-a-fuck kind of posture. From twenty feet away I could smell the smoke and alcohol lingering from his clothes. He needed to shave, but his hair was very neatly styled. His lips were full and pink, and I got the vibe that he was dangerous. What he Eleanor's ex? Why hadn't she told me?

"Eleanor," I asked her frantically, "what is going on?"

Her head rested in her hands. "I-I..."

"El, who is that?" Louis asked nervously.

"Who is this Eleanor?" the blonde guy asked, sauntering over and coming too close for comfort. "Is this the boyfriend you told me about?"

"Chuck, please, just leave, we'll talk about this later." Eleanor pleaded, and clutched onto Louis.

"No, how about we sort this out right now?" Chuck spat, and El flinched.

"Hey! What the hell is wrong with you? That's my girlfriend!" Louis yelled, pulling her back.

I felt someone hug me tightly and yank me back. It was Zayn. "But..." I whispered.

"I know, but I don't like this guy." Zayn hissed. He almost threw me to Harry, where he caged me in his strong arms.

"You didn't tell him did you?" Chuck grinned.

Louis's arms dropped from Eleanor and hung limp at his sides. "Tell me what?"
