25. Chapter 24.

~A few months later~

*Anna's P.O.V.*

I'd finally managed to get over Harry. It seemed impossible, but I did it. I still internally cringe whenever I see him, but he was someone special to me. But sadly, I was never special to him.

I started thinking about all that'd happened in the last few months. Harry apologized about a million times, and I - obviously - forgave him. Things got really bad between between us then, but after I cooled down a little, they got better. They were good for a while, but then I kind of got side-lined. I think we're okay now, I'm not too sure, because all he seems to care about is Georgie, and now she's his girlfriend, so I can't stop him! Louis and Harry made up a few weeks after the whole fiasco happened, and now they're back to normal.

Speaking of Georgie, she never found out how much I liked - or loved - Harry, and how freaking bummed I was when I found out about them being together, and I'm so glad, it would've ruined our friendship. We're okay now, we hangout every once in a while, and I'm just glad she doesn't side-line me like Harry does.

A few weeks ago, Niall asked Winnie out, and she said yes! Gosh, I am so happy for them both. And speaking of happy couples, Zayn recently proposed to his girlfriend - Perrie. They're so cute together, and so in love. It warms my heart whenever I see them together.

As for Liam, we sorted things out once I'd gotten my act together, and now we're closer than ever. He makes me smile the most, and I've never been happier with anybody else. Thanks to him, I haven't touched a blade in 2 and a half months.

It's getting to the end of November now. My favorite time of the year; winter. I wore my winter attire, and let my curly hair down, getting ready for a night out with none other than Mr. Liam Payne himself!

My face instantly lit up and huge smile inhabited itself upon my face as my phone started playing my favorite song - "Kiss Me" by Ed Sheeran - which was my ringtone, and I saw that *LeeyumPaayyyneeee* was calling me.

"Hi, babe." I said, grinning from ear to ear.
"Hey, love. I'm waiting outside." he replied in his perfect British accent.
"Alright, be there in 5."
"I'll be waiting, bye."
"Bye." I whispered before hanging up.

I put on some mascara and lipgloss and grabbed all the necessary things I needed, putting them into a little handbag and wearing my warm fuzzy boots, before stepping out of my house.

I shut the door behind me, and looked at Liam leaning against his car, dressed in black boots, black skinny jeans, a grey t-shirt and a black leather jacket. His smile grew bigger as he saw me walking towards him.

"You look beautiful." he said, pulling me in for a hug. "You look quite handsome yourself, Mr. Payne." I said, looking up at him without pulling away.

We pulled away after a while, and he opened the door of his car for me, even though I insisted that he didn't.

Within seconds, he was by my side and gave me a heart-warming smile that made me smile too.

"I'm glad we're hanging out tonight." he said, before turning on the engine and driving off. "Me too." I whispered, praying that I wasn't blushing.

After about 10 minutes, I couldn't take it any longer. We didn't say a word to each other the whole time, but it was a comfortable silence.

"Liam, where are we going?" I asked. "It's a surprise." he smirked. My heart starting beating faster as he replied. "But, I'm curious." I pouted. "You'll have to wait, love." he chuckled. I continued pouting and slumped back in the seat.

After another 15 minutes, we arrived at an Italian restaurant. It looked beautiful, and I decided not to let my thoughts ruin things for me like always.

I quickly stepped out before Liam could reach my side and smirked at him. We simply grinned and walked me into the restaurant.

As Liam spoke to the person behind the desk, I looked around the place, not paying attention to what they were saying. This place was breath-taking, and before I could think of any wild ideas, Liam tapped my shoulder as he followed the receptionist to our table.

As we reaching the far end of the restaurant that overlooked a few tall buildings close-by, I saw the receptionist lead us to a table for 3 where one of the seats was already occupied by a girl with dirty blonde hair in a sleek black dress and her coat hung on her chair, who looked about the same age as Liam.

She stood up as soon as she saw Liam and gave him a hug and a peck on the cheek. I felt the color from my face drain. Liam immediately turned to face me as they pulled away.

"Anna, this is an old friend from high school; Sophia. Sophia, this is one of my very close friends; Anna." Liam introduced us. "Hi, it's nice to meet you, Anna." Sophia said, reaching out for my hand to shake. "Likewise," I said, shaking her hand, Liam's words still stinging a little.

We sat down and ordered our food and drinks in a few minutes. Liam and Sophia were doing a little catching up while I couldn't stop thinking about the fact that Liam didn't have any friends in high school.

"Anna, you seem a little quiet tonight, is everything alright?" Liam asked, his brown eyes filled witg concern. "I'm fine, sorry." I snapped out of my trance and turned to look at Sophia. "So, how did you two meet?" I asked nicely. "Well, I met Liam just before he went for his second X Factor Audition. I really want him to go further than he did the first time. We kind of lost touch after that, but I ran into him the other day, and we decided to hangout and catch up." she smiled. "That's nice." I smiled. "What about you and Liam?" she inquired. "Well, I've been friends with Harry ever since we were kids, so when he got home from their tour this summer, he brought the boys along since my friends and I were directioners, so that's how we met." I replied. "Wow, that must be every directioners dream come true." she chuckled. Well, it feels like a nightmare at this moment. "Yeah," I simply said.

The night dragged on and soon Sophia decided to leave. I breathed in a discreet sigh of relief and gulped at the same time as I probably owed Liam an explanation for my weird behaviour.

"It was nice catching up with you Liam!" she said as she hugged him and pecked him on the cheek for the second time tonight. "Yeah, see you soon, Soph." he said before she turned to face me and gave me a quick hug. "It was nice meeting you, Anna." she said as she pulled away. "It was nice meeting you too, Sophia." I said, faking a smile.

As she walked away and was nowhere in earshot of us, Liam looked at me with a rather intense look on his face. It soothed me and scared me at the same time.

"You don't like her?" he simply asked. "No, I like her, she's really sweet!" I replied. "Then what's wrong?" he asked, continuing to stare at me intently. "Nothing, I just didn't know that she was coming." I said quietly. "Well, I ran into her the other and she wanted to catch up over dinner tonight, but I didn't want to cancel with you, I meant to tell you, I'm sorry." he said with the most sincere look in his eyes. There was no way that I could be mad at me, not with those puppy dog eyes. "It's okay, Li." I smiled.

His face lit up and small smile made it way to his lips. "C'mon, I want to show you something." he simply said before leaving some money and tips and dragging me out of the restaurant and into the street.

We walked into a near-by park and sat down on a bench. We sat there in silence. It wasn't an awkward silence, but it made me so curious.

"Anna, there's something I've got to tell you." I felt my heart race as Liam turned to me and said those words. "Alright, go ahead." I said, my voice sounding a little bit shaky. "I know that we haven't known each other for such a long time, and we've been friends for a while now, but in a way, that's a good thing, I think. But the point is, I always wonder what you think of when you're alone, what the reason is behind your breath-taking smile, and if all those things are ever me, because you're all I can think about when I'm alone, and you're the reason for my smile. It's taken me a while to build up the courage to tell you this, and for weeks after we first met, I felt stupid for feeling this way ever since the first time I met you because I didn't really know you then. I'm just gonna be honest and tell you that I really like you. Everything about you is beautiful and perfect to me. Now, I don't expect you to say it back, you can think it over and sort your feelings out, and I'll allow you to take your time. But just know that I will always wait for you." he confessed, looking into my eyes, his own filled with utmost sincerity. I felt tears forming in my eyes as I searched for the right words to say.

"I honestly don't know what to say, but for a month or two, I've started to feel something for you, I'm not sure what it was, but I guess I know now. I think I like you too." I said, smiling. "Well, there's no pressure, I'm not asking you out on a date yet, but now that we know about our feelings for each other, we can try to make this work, and maybe some day soon I'll take you out on a romantic date and sweep you off of your feet." he smiled wider, pulling me into his arms.

This moment felt so magical. I felt so much more happier than I'd ever felt before, and I'd be damned if something went wrong right now.

We sat there in each others arms, looking up at the moonlit sky for quite a while before Liam pulled away and stood up, offering me his hand.

"C'mon, love. I'll drive you home." he said. I took his hand and stood up as he held my hand tightly and walked in the direction of the restaurant we were at earlier, in front of which Liam's car was parked.

As we walked out of the park, Liam let go of my hand and put his arm around my waist. I put one of my arms around him as well and leaned my head against his chest.

It felt so comfortable to be this close to him, and I never wanted to let him go. He was so warm, and having forgotten my hand gloves, they started becoming ice-cold. I rubbed my free hand against my fluffly coat in attempts to warm it up and eventually ended up putting it in my pocket.

Soon, we reached his car and sadly, he let go of me in order for us to get in the car. He opened the passengers' side door for me once again, and I quietly got in this time and began rubbing my hands together. No matter what I did, they remained ice-cold.

As Liam got in the drivers' side of his car, he increased the heat so as to make the car warmer, and switched on the radio. I smiled as I heard one of Ed Sheeran's song playing. He began driving as I looked out of the window and at the tall buildings that were around.

In a few minutes, I began to realize how tired I was and suddenly, my eyes started to feel really heavy. I finally gave up on trying to keep them open and fell asleep into a dreamless sleep.

After a while of being asleep, I kind of awoke to Liam singing. I kept my eyes closed and paid attention to the lyrics.

"Lost and insecure,
You found me, you found me.
Lyin' on the floor,
Surrounded, surrounded.
Why'd you have to wait?
Where were you? Where were you?
Just a little late,
You found me, you found me."

I recognized the song almost instantly and was praying that he didn't see me smiling, because he would stop singing if he knew that I was awake.

Soon, I felt myself falling into a dreamless sleep again, and not before long, I kind of woke up again, but this time, I felt someone - probably Liam - wrapping something around me and carrying me in his arms. I had no idea where he was taking me, but my best guess is that it was Liam, so I wasn't worried at all.

I felt him reach into my pockets and pull out my keys. I tried so hard not to wriggle or laugh because it tickled, and his fingers were so warm.

I heard a door open and close and then footsteps on the stairs in my house. I heard a door open again, and felt him lay me down on a bed which felt like mine.

I heard footsteps walking away from me and opened my eyes immediately. My guess was right as I saw the back of Liam's head.

"Don't go," was all I said before he turned around. "I didn't mean to sound so needy, sorry." I blushed. "It's alright," he smiled and shut my bedroom door behind him. "I'l stay for as long as you need." he said and laid down on my bed, beside me.

We just stared into each others' eyes and before my mind could register what was happening, he slowly leaned in closer to my face and I did the same. I shut my eyes and felt Liam's soft lips against mine and his hand on my cheek.

We pulled away after a few seconds and continued staring into each others' eyes as his hand dropped down to my waist. There were smiles on both of our faces and none of us said a word.

"That was my first kiss." I confessed after a while. "I'm glad I was your first. I'm hoping I can be your last as well." he said, pulling me closer. I simply smiled as he pulled me in for another kiss.

After pulling away for air and regaining our breaths, he pulled a blanket over us and switched off the lights in my room. As darkness filled my room, he pulled me close again and whispered, "Good night, love. Sleep tight." "Good night." I whispered back and leaned my head against his hard but comfortable chest and fell asleep, feeling happy as ever.
