Chapter 14

Ruby went over the list again, even though she's done it twice already, reading everything out loud. Flour, sugar, caster, sugar, food colouring, cocoa powder, icing sugar, nuts, eggs, baking powder/soda, butter, cream, whipped cream, fruits, vanilla, chocolate chip.

I watched her with amusement as her head darted from the list on her phone to the cart that was practically overflowing. When I asked her what she wanted to bake, she just grinned at me and said, "everything." Her brown eyes were bright and excited and her cheeks were rosy pink. She reminded me of a little girl, especially with her fiery red hair.

"Rubes, we've got everything." I chuckled as she counted the packets of fruit.

She looked at me and glared before going back to her list. I knew telling her wouldn't work. She's the biggest perfectionist I know so there was no way she'd stop checking.

I remember those nights on the phone, I'd catch her reading her to do list aloud, making sure she's done everything she needed to. I found it adorable that she liked everything perfect.

"Okay, we have everything!" She exclaimed excitedly.

"Nothing's changed from the first two times you checked." I teased. She just stuck her tongue out at me and took the cart off my hands.

Ruby has a mind of an adult but a heart of a child.

After I paid, which she adamantly refused to let me do but I ended up handing the money before she did, we left to go back to her apartment. The whole thing cost almost £150, the cashier looked at us like we were crazy or something. And this was at 7:30 at night, mind you.

It almost reminded me of the time Elise wanted to play at every game stall at Luna Park in Australia. Shit, man, why the hell am I thinking about Elise when I have such an amazing girl right here?

I felt like screaming at myself, what the hell are you doing thinking about Elise when you have Ruby!?

"Liam?" I felt Ruby's hand on my upper arm. Her expression looked concerned as she asked, "Are you okay?"

I smiled at her, hoping it looked more real than it felt. "Yeah, I'm fine."

She looked at me for a second longer, as if she didn't believe I was which was half true. "Are you sure?"

I nodded my head and gave her the best smile I could. I knew she could read me like a book but she never pushed me to tell her. She let me decide whether I wanted to tell her or not.

As soon as we got back to her place, we unpacked everything and set it onto the island. She put everything into groups, general baking ingredients, decoration and flavour. She took out the trays and set it on the stove which had the oven underneath. She also took out mixing bowls, whisks, wooden spoons, beaters, measuring cups and spoons and a bunch of other stuff.

"You like to bake, don't you?" I teased as she set them down in stations.

"I love baking and cooking. That's why I'm so happy this has a pretty big kitchen. If I wasn't into literature, I'd be doing a cookery class." She answered. My eyebrows raised in surprise. Now that I never knew.

"Okay, let's go." I clapped as I grabbed a bag of flour and a measuring cup. "What do I do?" I asked.

"Pour 1 and 3 quarter cups of flour." She directed.

I poured a cup into the silver bowl while Ruby turned the oven on. When it came to the 3 quarter part, I looked from the cup to the bowl with confusion. How the hell am I supposed to get 3 quarters? Ruby exhaled audibly and i turned to her. She held a smaller measuring cup in front of me.

"Try using this?" She said in a 'duh' tone.

I looked down at the cup in her hands and it read "3/4 cup". I chuckled. "Baking is complicated." I commented.

She rolled her eyes at me as she guided my hand to pour the flour in the smaller cup. I can cook but I sure as hell can't bake for crap.

I watched her pour the flour with concentration. Her eyes narrowing as she lifted the cup to eye level and carefully adding more flour into it. I wasn't doing anything despite the fact that she was guiding my hand to do the work. She was doing all the work as she held my hand, the delicateness of her hand sent my heart into overdrive as it beat really fast.

Her head turned and faced me as she dropped the flour into the bowl. "What?" She asked.

I just grinned and said, "Nothing."

Then it was like in slow motion. She let go of my hand and because I wasn't actually holding it, I dropped it. The bag just tipped a flour all over the island. I watched in horror as it spilled onto the floor.

"Shit." I mumbled. I was a little scared of Ruby's reaction. She likes to have things clean and neat. The flour on the floor is neither clean nor neat. But when I looked at her expression, it was mixed with surprise and amusement.

"Liaaaaaaam!" She whined all the while with a grin on her face. She bent down and scooped up some of the flour and looked at me with mischievous eyes. She smacked my chest with same hand causing a flour hand print on the white shirt she gave me.

My surprise was never greater than that moment. I honestly did not expect this reaction from her. I scooped some off the island and patter her hair with it, making a mountain of flour on top of red hair. Her eyes widened as she shook it off her head.

She picked up the whipped cream and shook it. "Not the hair!" She shouted as she sprayed the cream all over my face.

"Ugh, Ruby!!" I groaned as I wiped the cream away from my eyes. Then I smiled evilly at her. "You are so beautiful." I said as I patted her cheek with cream with every word I said.

She giggled as she wiped the cream off her face. Her eyes shone with pure happiness and it made me feel so good. Her happiness made me happy. Her smile blew me away with her pearly whites twinkling. She threw her head back as she laughed. I had the biggest urge to just take a picture of her, to capture the happiness on her face and treasure it forever.

I placed my hand in her cream covered cheek and looked into her bright brown eyes. They say that the eyes are the windows to the soul and right now her soul was bright with bliss and content. Her eyes were warm and I just couldn't look away. I felt her hand hold onto mine before moving to my own cheek and leaning in.

This was the first time she initiated the kiss and my god, it got me so excited. She kissed me and the familiar movement in my stomach was stronger than ever. It was like a whole herd of deer were running around in my stomach combined with elephants and lions. It was unusual for me to ever have butterflies in my stomach. It made me sound like a total pansy. But Ruby had this kind of effect on me. It was strong and beautiful but it was the most scariest thing.

"We should really get to baking." Ruby whispered as she pulled back a hairline away.

"But this is much more better." I mumbled, my eyes still closed and my lips searching.

She pecked my lips and pulled away completely. I had to resist a pout as a wave of disappointment suddenly washed over me.

"Aw, Li!" She said as she pinched my cheeks. I huffed out in exasperation as she moved my head from side to side.

"Let me take a photo of us." I said as she let go of my cheeks. She rolled her eyes but nodded. I took my phone out and held it up then snapped the photo of our faces.

I had blown my cheeks out while she stuck her tongue out and crossed her eyes. It was such a goofy photo. That I would definitely love to put up and show the fans.

"Would you let me put this up on twitter?" I asked her, hoping she won't get mad.

"As in let everyone know I'm your girlfriend?" She asked, her tone was unreadable.

"Yeah." I answered slowly.

She was silent for a minute and I could tell that she was deciding. I was getting a little anxious as her eyebrows furrowed in deep thought. I opened my mouth to tell her that I didn't have to if she didn't want me to but then she answered.

"Yeah, I wouldn't mind." She answered. Her tone held certainty which didn't let me doubt her decision.

"Thank you!" I grinned and kissed her cheek, licking some of the cream off it. She giggled as she felt my tongue tickle her cheek.

As I uploaded the picture on twitter, with a tweet that said: baking gone wrong, with le girlfriend @Rubyy_Adamss, Ruby had cleaned the flour and the cream off the floor and the island. I watched her brush it all into a dust pan and throw it away, then wipe the table clean with a cloth. I watched her hands graciously move around.

I checked my mentions on twitter as she went ahead to make the cookie dough. The fans were actually really sweet about Ruby and I. There were a few threats and hate but the majority if them actually like us which was so grateful of.

@1Dforever: this is by far the cutest photo ever! #paydamsorriam

@real_liiam_payne: I choose paydams #paydamsorriam

@Leeyum_pain: i don't like them. she's not good enough for her

I found it cute that they already named us as a couple. I put my phone back in my pocket and stood behind Ruby as she mixed the ingredients in. I wrapped my arms around her neck and place my head on the crook of her neck, watching her movements. I turned and kissed the base of her neck and she giggled, kissing my cheek.

"They made couple names for us." I announced. Her hands stopped moving.

"What?" She asked.

"You know how the make couple names for people? Like Jelena, Elounor, Halira?" Then I remembered she watches the vampire diaries and I quickly racked my brain on their couple names. "Um, Stelena? Delena? Klaroline?"

Her expression changed to understanding. "Oooh, wait who did?"

"The directioners." I answered.

"Already? What did they name us?" She asked with a smile as she kept mixing the ingredients in.

"They're choosing between paydams and riam." I told her as I took the whisk off her hands and stirred.

"I like them." She mused. Then she was silent for a bit as I let go of her waist and stirred the mix.

"Am I... am I getting hate?" She asked in a small voice.

I froze. Of course she was getting hate, I'm part of One Direction. I was so scared to see a frightened expression on her face. But when I looked to her she looked generally curious. She didn't look scared or sad or angry, she looked curious.

"Do you want the answer truthfully or euphemised?" I asked her.

She pursed her lips then answered, "truth."

"Yeah, you are." I told her, bracing myself for the sadness in her eyes. When she told me about Ryder with the sadness and self blame, I vowed to myself to never let her have the same look in her eyes ever again.

She didn't react in any way. She just nodded her head as if it was no big deal. I smiled to myself then pecked her cheek. Then moved to her lips and kissed her.

“What was that for?” She asked.

“Nothing.” I smiled. Everything, I thought.

Then we continued the night baking. We baked 2 batches of cookies, three batches of cupcakes and a chocolate cake. Ruby did most of the work but I did help a little. I kept doing things wrong though and eventually she put me onto a cleaning job instead.By the time we were finished it was 11:30, we were both so tired and we practically had no more ingredients left because we kept throwing it at each other or eating it.

“Wanna sleep here tonight?” Ruby asked as I put the wiping cloth away.

“Are you sure?” I asked her and she nodded.

“Do you need any clothes?” Ruby asked.

“I usually sleep in just my boxers, would you mind? If not, i’ll just wear the shirt as well.” I told her, praying that she didn’t find the question uncomfortable.

She blushed a little. “Um, no, that’s fine.”

“Are you sure?” I asked her once more and she nodded again.

So we both went to her room, she changed into a pair of pink pajama shorts and a white singlet in her ensuite while I stripped into my boxers.

“Goodnight.” I mumbled as I wrapped my hand around her waist. She leaned back into me and mumbled a goodnight. I kissed her cheek then shut my eyes.

Which sounds better, paydams or riam????? And please don’t mind the spelling mistakes, I wrote the majority of this on my phone and I honestly can not be bothered to check it.
