Chapter 13

I woke up in the most excited way possible. A smile was already on my face and I literally jumped out of bed. As I got out of bed, i grabbed my phone. Ruby was moving today. As I made my breakfast, I called Ruby up.

“Liam! It’s like 4 in the morning.” She groaned. Her morning voice was husky and honestly, sexy as hell. I can just imagine what she looks like right now. Her red hair in a knotty mess and all over the place. Her face devoid of make up. Her eyes still closed but her mouth moving to speak. It made me wish I was there to wake up with her.

“Rubes, it’s like 9.” I chuckled.

“What!” She screamed. I laughed even more. The movers were supposed to be at hers at 10.

“It’s 9.” I repeated, knowing that she’d get annoyed at me for being a smart ass.

“Don’t mock me. I hate you for waking me up but thank god you did!” She huffed. I could hear the rustling on the other end and i knew that she was making sure everything was ready. I didn’t think she had to. The girl’s a neat freak and completely organised.

“You’re welcome, love. Just call me when you get here, okay?” I told her as i took a bite of my buttered toast.

“Yeah, sure. Bye, Li!” Her voice sounded a little faraway which meant I was on loud speaker.

“Bye, Rubes.” I hung up the phone and finished my breakfast.

I was excited, needless to say. She’s finally going to be closer to me and I no longer have to see her once a week. I knew I could handle long distance very well. I mean, I was with Danielle for years when I was on tour and we were still good. We didn’t even break up because of long distance, it was because we got into too many fights about everything and anything. I was excited because I got to see her everyday.

She excites me and intrigues me and just makes me so happy. I feel like I’m overly attached to her and that she’s going to get annoyed of me sometime. But she just gets me going. She makes me so happy and I can never pass that kind of opportunity up. I’ve never been this happy since we won X Factor. And that was a long time ago.

I still feel like it’s wrong though. Like I’d randomly remember Elise and then I just start to over think. Am I doing the right thing? Am I supposed to be with Ruby? Should i be doing this? Am I completely over Elise? So many questions get inside my head and I can never get a hold on those thoughts. As soon as the question comes a new one comes in and it sends my head into overdrive.

I got changed into a black spiderman graphic shirt and black jeans and shoes. I grabbed my grey hoodie and put it on. As I shrugged into my jacket my phone went off and I immediately went to go pick it up.

“Hello?” I answered.

“Liam!” Ruby’s voice came through the receiver and she sounded thrilled.

“Okay, I’m coming.” I chuckled and she hung up.

I grabbed my house keys and walked out of my apartment. I walked down a few streets until I reached Ruby’s new building. I spotted her red Toyota Yaris parked on the curb and a large moving truck. I saw her talking to a man in a grey jumpsuit.

“Rubes!” I called out. She turned her attention to me and grinned. I sped up my pace until I was beside her. “Hey.” I leaned down and kissed her cheek.

“Hey.” She replied. Then she continued to talk to the man about the boxes.

Ruby then directed both the man, who’s name is Benny, and I into bringing all the boxes up into the apartment. When Benny opened the moving truck, I was shocked at how many boxes there were for one person. It filled the whole carriage. But then Ruby explained that Ryder’s stuff was in there too.

It took 8 trips each to get all the boxes up. It was the biggest workout ever, carrying at least 2 boxes up three flights of stairs each time was hard work. Ruby thanked Benny and handed him £300.

We walked up to her apartment, hand in hand. it was a pretty big place and already furnished. The living room had a black plush three-seater sofa and a matching love seat with a grey single chair. There was also a wooden coffee table in the centre on top of a grey rug. A large plasma in a box sat beside the front door and on either side of it were DVD and CD racks. The dining room was right beside the kitchen and it had a black rectangle dining table with six white chairs. Down the hallway were four doors. Three for the rooms and one for the bathroom. One of the rooms had their own ensuite. The boxes were all currently piled up in the living room behind one of the sofas.

“Did you bring all this in or...?” I asked her.

“Yeah, I got it all delivered here two days ago and asked the movers to set it up themselves, however they wanted.” She answered as she looked over the boxes.

“So what do we do now?” I asked her.

“Grab all the boxes labeled Ryder and followed me.” She said as she picked up three boxes that said Ryder.

I grabbed as many boxes as I could and followed her down to the door at the end of the hallway. She opened the door and it was furnished as a guy’s room. There was a black double bed in the middle of the room with white bed sheets. There were matching bedside tables on either side of the bed. A dark brown dresser was put underneath the window and a black bookshelf with a TV in a box on top beside it. In the corner was a blue and white ipod dock stand. The walls were already painted blue. Ruby didn’t linger in the room like I did. She immediately put the boxes down and rushed out to get more. I guess she’s still not okay with the accident.

Once we finished with Ryder’s stuff, we went on to doing the third bedroom. It was all set up and practically divided into two. One side was obviously Ryder’s. It had a black desk set against the wall and also a grey beanbag in the corner. On the other side was a white desk with a fluffy white rug underneath against the wall. And against the largest wall was a big bookshelf that filled most of the wall. Ruby told me that this was sort of their study room. She also told me about the large collection of books they had which she calls her own personal library.

We then moved her own boxes into her room. Her room was massive it even had a window seat. Her was a simple light wooden framed bed with white sheets. It had a matching dresser beside the window seat and a matching bedside table. There was also a white vanity table beside the door to the ensuite. Then we moved the kitchen stuff to the kitchen. She didn’t want to unpack any of the boxes for some unknown reason.

“I want to paint the living room before I do anything else.” Ruby huffed just as I sat down on the sofa. It was now 3 in the afternoon and I wasn’t exhausted but I was tired. I had to carry boxes everywhere and they were all pretty heavy.

“What colour?” I asked, jumping straight up despite the fact that I was tired and all i wanted to do was sit back down and sleep for a week.

“Well, what would suit black and grey? This brown-ish colour looks terrible.” She mused as she stared at the walls.

“White?” I suggested. Technically that was the only colour I could think of at that moment.

“How about we just get a bunch of colours that will suit black, grey and white?” She suggested and I nodded in agreement.

So we went to the store and bought like 7 or 8 buckets of different colours that would most likely suit black and grey and still make it look unisex. The hardest part was carrying the heavy buckets up the stairs. It sucked that there was no elevator.

Once we got all the buckets into the living room, we moved all the furniture to the dining room or the hallway, Then we draped canvas tarps all over the wooden floor. We opened every bucket we had and whipped our brushes out.

We stared at each other like cowboys about to battle with our brushes in our hands. I cocked an eyebrow at her and smirked. “Ready to do this?” I said in a country drawl.

“Right on.” She replied in the same accent.

It wasn’t even a second after when she burst out laughing. Her back was hunched and her lips was spread into a big smile. Her red hair fell onto her face as she rocked back and forth. Her eyes were shut tight and her laugh was beautiful. It was silvery and sweet-sounding. I couldn’t even laugh with her because I was entranced.

“Okay.” She breathed once she calmed down. I don’t think she even noticed how I couldn’t keep my eyes off her. “Let’s start.”

We covered the walls in white first so we could get rid of the original brown colour. It took us a while because we kept getting distracted but we eventually got the room white.

“Let’s leave it like this.” I suggested as we waited for the paint to dry.

“You’re just being lazy.” She teased as she poked my stomach. “I want to see what it looks like with every colour first.”

“You just like to paint.” I chuckled.

“No.” She scoffed but I knew she was lying.

“Yes.” I poked her stomach. She immediately jumped and turned to me with narrowed eyes.

It was like a silent conversation. I never realised, in the four weeks we’ve been together that she was really ticklish and now that I knew, I could use it against her. I could see in her brown eyes that she’s been trying to hide it from me because she knew I’d use it against her. Her narrowed eyes and her body language was like yelling ‘don’t you dare’. There was a smirk on my face that was saying ‘too late’. I put my fingers to her sides and started tickling her. She immediately screamed and jumped up from the sofa we were sitting on.

She held her hands up in front of her as her hips moved back. “No, Liam.” She whined.

I just smirked at her and walked closer. I’m going to have so much fun with this. When I got closer to her she broke for a run and ran behind the sofa and around the dining table. It was like a game of cat and mouse. She was on one end and I was on the other and we were moving around, following each others moves.

“Please, Liam.” She begged as her lips went into a pout.

I immediately froze. She looked adorable. It was more than just one puppy dog face. It was like seeing a puppy face with a baby laughing for the first time with a baby piglet with a kitten with Niall laughing because I called him cute at the iTunes Festival. It was the most cutest thing I’ve ever seen and I couldn’t do anything. i just completely froze as I looked at her.

Then she used the opportunity to escape which broke me out of my trance. She ran from the dining table and jumped over the sofas in the hallway. I followed after her, mimicking her actions. She ran into her room and tried to close the door. But I was fast and she screamed/giggled when I stopped her from closing the door.

She ran to the bed and jumped onto it, standing. She had her arms in front of her like before as if it was going to stop me from tickling her.

“No, Liam please.” She giggled. I just laughed as I grabbed her legs and pulled them from underneath her. She screamed again as she fell and I immediately started to tickle her. She was screaming and squirming and laughing her head off. I found it the most cutest thing ever.

“Okay, i can’t breathe. Liam! Ah! Liam!” She panted.

She was lying on her back with me leaning on my elbow beside her. The smile was etched on her face as she breathed deeply. My hand reached up to her face and brushed off a strand of her. She smiled sweetly at me, her brown eyes meeting mine.

“Hi.” She smiled.

“Hi.” I answered.

She put her arms around my neck and brought my lips down to hers. Her lips were so soft and this time they tasted like strawberries. She smelt of lavender and vanilla. It was sugary sweet and I just couldn’t get enough of it. She smelt heavenly.

My hand trailed up her leg. Her smooth skin felt like feathers under my touch. I kept going up until my hand rested on her hip. I squeezed her hip before wrapping my arms around her and pulling her on top of me. She moved her hands to either side of my head to hold herself up.

I trailed my lips across her jaw and she let out a breathy moan. I moved my lips down to her neck and softly sucked at the soft skin there. She moved her hands to my hair and gently tugged on my strands. My hands moved up and down her back, lightly gripping the soft fabric of her singlet.

Ruby moved to roll us over again but somehow we ended up on the floor with me on the bottom. I was so shocked and confused as I looked at Ruby. Her face showed amusement then she started to laugh. Her laugh became contagious and I started to laugh with her. I didn’t even know what happened.

“We... fell.” Ruby said in between laughs as if reading my mind. I just chuckled as I watched her squeeze her eyes shut and go limp on top of me. She just laid on my chest, laughing because of what just happened.

“Rubes.” I said, tilting her head up to me. She looked at me, giggles still escaping from her lips. i just chuckled at her and kissed her in the middle of a giggle. “We’ve got to paint your living room.” I insisted in between kisses.

She sighed. “Fine.”

Even though I was the one who mentioned the living room, I was more reluctant to get up. It was a heavenly feeling having her so close to me. Her tanned skin was soft and I could spend forever just trailing my hands over it. Her silky red hair darkened under the setting sun. Her eyes twinkled as the small giggles escaped her lips.

She stood up and grabbed my hands, pulling me up with her. She towed me to the living room, weaving through the sofas. We stopped in front of the main wall and stared at it. I grabbed our brushes and handed her one.

We both dipped our brushes in different colours and painted the wall randomly, trying to see what colour suits the most. We ended up just messing around and painting over each other’s colours. So the wall ended up with a mixture of blues, greens, yellows, browns, reds, pinks and purples with a white background. I even ended up with a mixture of those colours, no thanks to Ruby, but then so did she.

As we took a step back and admired the coloured wall, I took my brush and stroked the red over her cheek. Her face went from amusement to surprise. She turned towards me, her eyes wide and her jaw dropped. I just laughed at her because there was a stroke of red on her face.

I was too busy laughing to notice the fact that her arm went up and stroked her green coated brush down the middle of my face. The paint itself was cold on my skin. I stopped laughing and scoffed. I dipped my brush into a random bucket and put it onto her shoulder.  A circle of green now dried onto the skin of her shoulder.

We spent minutes putting paint on each other until we finally got tired of running. Now each wall of the living room had splatters of colours everywhere. We got a laugh out of that. We were supposed to paint the room one colour but instead we just ended up splashing it everywhere.

“So much for painting the living room.” Ruby giggled as she stared up at the walls. We were currently laying on the paint covered tarp. Our skin barely visible underneath the layer of colour we got onto each other.

“It doesn’t look too bad.” I commented.

“Yeah, i guess.” She said. She turned her head to me, her face covered. “That was fun.” She whispered.

“Yeah.” I replied. She leaned down and kissed my lips. She pulled away after three seconds with a sour look.

“What?” I asked her.

“You taste like paint.” She stuck her tongue out as if that would get rid of the flavour. I laughed as I grabbed her tongue.

“Ugh, iam...” She struggled to talk with her tongue out. Her saliva got all over my fingers but I didn’t really care. I just laughed and turned her head to the side and gave her a big slobbery kiss on the cheek.

“Didn’t I say you tasted like paint!” She spat once I took my hand away.

“Yeah, yeah. I’ll go shower.” I rolled my eyes.

“Good!” She giggled.

We both stood up, with tarp sticking to us because of the dried paint. I pulled it off as we both walked to her room. She opened one of her boxes and took out a blue towel and handed it to me. She also passed an extra bottle of shampoo and a bar of soap while she took out a white towel for herself. Then Ruby went into Ryder’s room for a bit then came back out, handing me a white shirt and a pair of tanned jeans.

I moved to the other bathroom in the hallway and took my shower. I had to scrub extra hard to get the layers of paint off. By the time I was finished my skin was red from all the rubbing of soap. I dried myself off and put the clothes Ruby gave me which surprisingly fit perfectly.

Ruby and I walked out at the same time. She took the towel off me and hung it over the dining room chairs to dry off.

“What now?” I asked.

“Let’s unpack the kitchen stuff.” She suggested and i followed her to the kitchen where the boxes were stacked.

We unpacked all the utensils and unwrapped all the dishes from its bubble wrap. Ruby liked to have everything organised and so she took ages to figure out where to put her stuff. She considered everything carefully and analysed each option long and hard. Once everything was finally put away, she turned to me with a grin.

“I want to bake!” She exclaimed, throwing her arms up in the air. I chuckled at her childish antics.

“Okay.” I allowed. “Let’s go get the ingredients.”

“Yay!” She clapped happily as we walked out of her apartment to buy ingredients to bake at 7:30 at night.

What an adorable girlfriend I have.
