15. Sunny Sunday Morning

Sunny Sunday Morning

“And so we meet again my little princess!” Niall exclaims cheerily on this unusually bright and warm Sunday London morning. Louis hands me the pancake mix as I start heating up the griddle. Zayn and Liam sitting with Niall at the wooden table. Since rehearsals had been unreasonably early, we had agreed upon having breakfast afterwards to at least regain some sanity.

“How are things with the social worker, mate” Liam asks raising an eyebrow. I sigh loudly, knowing that Louis would inevitably say what I told him earlier.

“They kissed” Louis says with an arched eyebrow in my direction.

“What?!” Liam exclaims taken aback. Zayn puts down the morning post and watches intently.

“We did”

“And?” I say flipping the perfectly shaped pancake.

“What happened? Are you two...?”

“I haven’t really, um, talked to her”

“So you two bloody kissed, and you haven’t had the balls to call her, Harry?”

“Hey!  Uncalled for, it's only been like two days!

Niall chuckles and shakes his head “Ems, daddy has no balls”

“Hey! Language!”

“Daddy! Balls!”

All of the boys explode into laughter upon hearing Emma repeat what Niall had said, with me simply shaking my head and focusing on the pancakes. I tried not to crack a smile, knowing they would win if I did.

“Rude” I muttered.

Upon hearing me Louis elbowed me in the side and said “Are you going to take that from a three year old and a leprechaun?”

“At least I have balls!” Niall yells from across the kitchen

“Bloody hell Niall! Watch your language! I don’t need my child to have an Irish accent and the potty mouth to boot!” Niall simply laughs and hugs Emma tighter to him.

“Anyways, as I was saying” Louis says stirring more batter “What happened to just being friends.”

“We both know it is not that simple”

“We both know it’s not that difficult” Louis look up as he sees Zayn approaching. Zayn grabs a plate that already had a stack of pancakes and carried it to the table.

“Figured you needed some help” He said as he came over for the second plate “And Haz?”

“Don’t over think it. From what you’ve told us, I think she fancies you mad mate. The situation is just bloody terrible.”

Zayn winks and bumps my shoulder with his fist before finally going back to the table and picking up his newspaper once more. Louis simply looks at me as he places some utensils in the sink. “So what’s it going to be Styles?”

"We decided to wait until after Monday."

"A sound and mature decision."

I sigh placing the griddle upon the counter to clean it "Look, I know you all want me to get back into dating, not now, but eventually. But I just..."

"Too soon?" Louis says a bit guiltily

"I really...I don't know"

"Remember how I told you that it would take you some time to finally read Leigh's letters?"

"Remember how I told you there isn't any set amount of time? How things just kind of fall into place?"

"Maybe...fuck...maybe you can just let things fall into place with Edie. I mean, if you fancy her, then we're all for it, but if you need time don't be afraid to say so"

"I don't..." But I did.

"Think about it mate"

I give Lou a weary smile before he goes to sit with the rest of the lads and finally eats his breakfast, while i'm left with the dirty griddle and my thoughts.

Was it really worth starting a relationship three weeks before we were going off to travel the world for ten months? Would we even survive that kind of separation this soon? And Emma. Emma is my priority right now.  How could I only be thinking about Edie.

This case could possibly seperate me from my daughter for almost a year. How could I possibly be thinking about this right now. After Monday, after I hear what the judge chooses, then I will come back to this. Only after I know the fate of my daughter will I allow myself to think of my needs.

"You look like you're thinking very hard."

"Here to put your two cents in too Liam?"

"Yes." He grabs a sponge and helps me scrub. "Look, it's not wrong of you to fancy someone. So I hope that's not why you're beating yourself up."

"It just seems like a very selfish thing to do."

Liam turns to look at me, "You have been so selfless the past few months. Don't ever think you're being selfish."

"I just, I don't think the timing is right for any of this type of thing."

"Then wait until it's right. If after a while you both still want to be together, then it's meant to be."

"We'd find our way back to each other?"

"If she's the one, you'll always find your ways back to each other."

I look at the sink and realize we finished every dish, Liam smiles at me and claps me on the shoulder, "You'll be okay."

I lean against the counter as I hear the boys in the living room with Emma. I smile to myself, knowing that I was blessed with this family. However dysfunctional it may be.

"Ready for tomorrow?" Louis says he turns back one last time before leaving. Niall had put Emma to bed a while ago, and the boys were falling asleep on the plush sofas. They were all exhausted, and just as worried about tomorrow.

"As ready as I'll ever be."

"We'll be okay. No matter what happens, she's still your daughter. She's still our Em's. We're all still a family." he says making sure I don't panic.

"I know." I say with smile. "I know, don't worry about me just yet."

"I'll be here early tomorrow morning to pick you both up. We can all ride together."

"The rest of the boys are coming too?"

"Of course! Don't be ridiculous."

"Alright, goodnight, mate."

"Night. Sleep well."

"As to you."

I close the door and find myself walking to Emma's room. From the door I watch her sleep peacefully. Wishing that whatever happens, is truly the best for her. Never mind me, I just hope she'll be okay.
