This Is How It Goes

My life was turned upside down, after my mothers sudden death, I was forced to meet and move in with my father. New place, new people, no Mother. Then add Justin Bieber...oh sorry, I forgot to mention, my dad is Scooter Braun.

3. I Guess This Is Goodbye

*Your POV*

I haven't spoken to anybody, unless I had too, all week. I haven't even left the house. I just lay on the couch, on my mom's spot, organised the funeral and slept, well tried to. I still can't believe shes gone, she was the last person in my family, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins...all dead or never existed, to my knowledge.

*The Next Day (Funeral)*

My mom's friends and fellow officers greeted me and told me they were "sorry for my loss". I was surprised at the fact I didn't know a lot of them. We all took our seats and the priest did his service until it was my turn to speak. I wondered up from my seat and took the piece of paper from my pocket, as I stood in front of everyone. I cleared my throat.

"Erm, I'd like to thank you all for coming, I know it would make my mom happy to see you all. I thought long and hard about what I was gonna say today, and I found it really difficult..." I started to well up. "But I wrote a poem I would like to share with you all:

Every time that I smile,
Every time that I sigh,
I think of your face,
And a tear escapes my eye.

You were my world,
My inspiration and my heart,
But when you left me,
I thought I would fall apart.

You were my best friend,
My one true 'confidante',
And that's not all you were,
You were also my mom.

I didn't want to live without you,
But you would have wanted me to,
And if there's anyone I want to make happy,
That anyone is you

I would have given anything to have you back,
But I know now that it was meant to be,
For you are still watching from up there,
And I know you're watching me.

I'll make you proud mom,
I'm going to fulfill your wish,
You're going to see me and smile,
That's a daughter's promise.

Thank you" I concluded and returned to my seat.

I did it. I made it through without turning hysteric. With the service now finished, we headed outside for the burial. The police officers carried the coffin and placed it very carefully, followed by her boss laying the flag across the top. She was slowly lowered into the ground and I delicately threw a lily, her favorite flower.

Once she was buried, everyone else left and headed to the party venue. But I waited behind to speak to her in private. Just as I was getting up to leave, I looked down and said

"I guess this is goodbye. I love you mom!"
