Forbidden Love

In a small town there's always a scandal. But never something on the scale of this stature.

Derek Masters has lived through hell. That's putting it lightly. When he was only just entering teen years his girlfriend was killed in a bitter rage. Then the mayor of his town passes the Law,

Farmers and City Folk Will Not Mingle, Flirt, Romance, or Marry. Under the decree of the Mayor.

You see that could be a slight problem for our Derek Masters. In his freshman year of High School he fell in love with Daisy Malone.

The Mayor's daughter.

Daisy Malone has a secret. She's in love with a farm boy. With the initials DM.

14. Chapter Fourteen

-Love is a funny thing. It comes and goes like a spring breeze or an apple pie. You didn't know what it was, or where it came from until one day it hits you square in the chest, and you think you're having a heart attack, but you're not. You're too young for one, and for two, you know its love because each time you look at him, your heart seizes up, and then it beats erratically, and you envision a world without him, and you die a bit inside. That is love, its not a chemical, its an emotion, and a state of being. Love is irrational and like all those silly irrational numbers it can't be explained, and it can't be figured out as to why it exists, it just does.

Derek looked up from the journal he had found among Natalie's  things. Jack had given him a box of things he thought Derek might like. So far the discovery of the journal had distracted him from everything else-including time. He looked at the clock and sighed, another Saturday spent alone. He got up from his desk chair and went down the steps.

"Ma? Dad?" There was no answer. Today or rather tomorrow was his eighteenth birthday. Why would they just disappear? Derek walked out into the yard and was surprised by the amount of people on his front yard. "What is this?"

"Happy eighteenth birthday Derek." Daisy said smiling. "Your parents helped me plan it all and well we though you deserved a party with all of your friends."

"Thanks you guys. This is wonderful. It truly is." Derek kissed Daisy, and took her hand. Natalie's words replayed in his head. Live for me, Live for Daisy. Derek vowed that he would, he would always love and live for Daisy. "Daisy Malone."

"Yes Derek Masters?"

"My forbidden love, my heart, my angel, my saving grace." Derek dropped to one knee and took her hand. "I know its soon, and I know I promised to wait another two years. But I can't wait any longer. I don't have a ring, and I don't have a lot of money, or much to offer right now. But I will Daisy, I swear to you I will. Without you I wouldn't be here. Without you I would have no reason to live. I want to spend every moment of my life in your company. I don't want this feeling to ever leave me, I don't want you to leave me. I can't fathom a world without you in it. Natalie told me to love, and live for her and for you and everyone that has every sacrificed something to be with the one they loved. I don't want those sacrifices to be in vain Daisy. So, Daisy, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?"

Silence echoed throughout the yard as people held their breath, waiting for Daisy's answer, somewhere off in the distance someone yelled, "Say YES you bimbo!" this made Daisy laugh,

"Derek, yes. I'll marry you. God you jerk doing it front of the whole town!" Cheers erupted around them. Derek saw his mother approach him and Daisy, holding in her had a ring. It was small and delicate, and simple. Derek took it without question, and slipped it onto Daisy's ring finger. It fit perfectly. "I love you." Daisy whispered. Their life would be perfect, they would have a story of a life time to tell their children, and Derek could wait to become old, gray, and gassy with Daisy.

"I love you too." They kissed, as fireworks went off around them. Actual fireworks. They had all their life ahead of them, and sure they had some tragedy, but love, and life cannot go on without some tragedy.
