Just One Summer

Can one summer really change everything?

Niall and Lucy have been friends since before they were born. They spent almost every summer together growing up, but had to stop when Niall became apart of One Direction. One Direction now has a three month break and wants to spend it with Lucy and her friends. All nine of them knew this summer was going to be different, but none of them expected this.

1. Hitting the Road

“Lucy! Will you please hurry up! We don’t have all day!” Diana yelled from the car.  I never was good with time.

“I’m coming! Don’t get your panties in a wad.”

I quickly stuffed my teddy bear and blanket into my pillow, and then I sprinted out the door.  As much as I liked to take my time getting ready, I hated being late even more.

“Took you long enough,” Diana mumbled as I loaded my suitcase in the trunk of her car.

“Oh, the beach’s not going anywhere,” I said while sliding into the passenger’s seat.

“Off to Lena’s next? Or Beth’s?”  Their houses were about equal distances from my house.

“Lena’s, Beth’s house is on the way to the airport,” Diana answered.

“Okie dokie sounds good,” I said while rolling the window down letting the wind tangle up my long brown hair. I then slide One Direction’s new CD into the CD player.

“Doesn’t it seem weird to be listening to their CD when we’re going to be spending the whole summer with them?”

I gave a look and then said, “Of course not. Really we should be up to date on their songs.”

“I guess you’re right.  I will need something to talk about after I’m done starring at their faces,” she said with a straight face.  I couldn’t help but laugh even if one of them happened to be my best friend.

“Don’t be silly. You’ve met them before.”

“I know, but I haven’t seen them in ages.”

“It’s been like a year,” I pointed out.

“Which is like a really long time.” I couldn’t help but to agree.  It did feel like ages since all nine of us had hang out.  As I was thinking this, we pulled into Lena’s driveway.  Diana honked the horn. Lena appeared moments later with two suitcases and a tote bag.

“Jesus Lena! How much stuff did you bring?!” Diana exclaimed.

“You never know what you’re going to need,” Lena said, defending herself.

“Better to over pack rather than under,” I added.  Lena gave me a smile as she slide into the backseat.

“Whatever, I’ll be in my bikini for most of the trip anyways,” Diana said.  Lena and I both just smiled to ourselves already knowing that was true.

Diana was not shy.  She wasn’t like most girls with bikinis.  Diana was neither self-conscience nor was she just showing off for guys.  She wore what she wanted and that was that.  Like today, Diana is sporting some jean cutoffs and a tight tank-top.  Her hair was in a messy bun, yet she looked put-together.  Lena, on the other hand, was wearing a simple blue dress that really made her eyes pop.  Her natural red hair has been untouched from dyes unlike Diana who now had jet-black hair.

We continued to drive, just letting One Direction’s voices fill the car as we pulled into Beth’s driveway.  Diana didn’t even need to honk.  Beth was already heading towards us, suitcase and dance bag in hand. The only way she could go was if we found a place for her to dance.  Beth was beyond dedicated to dance.  Even before she got into the Joffery Ballet School, it was always her passion.  You could tell just by the way she walked she was a dancer.  Her feet now turn slightly out from all the plies.  Beth just looks like a dancer.  Her white-blonde hair is naturally straight and is super thin, so it makes pulling her hair up into a bun very easy.  Beth is about a couple of inches taller than me and is very thin.

Beth got in the car and that’s when it really hit everyone.  We were spending our summer with One Direction.  In a beach house.  On the coast of California.  This was going to be one hell of a summer.
