15. Chapter 14 The Traitor

Two men and two women walked down the long winding streets of Morin. Night had crept over the city two hours ago so the streets were deserted except for the occasional drunk stumbling his way down the street.

During the day the café's that lined the street had tables and chairs sitting out the front for people to sit and eat in the open air. Street lamps were the only source of light, the flame burning brightly, illuminating a part of the street. The cobblestone street provided no noise as the travellers walked down the long street. The travellers had some strange items in there possession, one women had a sword strapped to her waist while the other had nothing at all, the tallest male had a ball crooked under his arm. The final traveller held a large block of metal, that didn't seem to weigh him down at all.

The travellers rounded a bend and saw four figures with long cloaks in the distance, hoods hiding their faces. One short and fat, one tall and muscly, another slight and petite the final one was about medium height and build.

The four travellers continued to walk towards the other four, stopping when a few metres away from them. The shadows seemed to stir around the new comers.

'Excuse us, friends.' One of the female travellers said.

The people on the opposite side had no intention on moving.

'Feri, Hieme, Masto and Lance.' The slight figure said, her voice was obviously feminine.

'How do you know our names?' Masto asked, he was tall and muscly, with stubble strewn across his tanned face, tangled brown hair sat upon his head and his black eyes gleamed in the lamp light.

'I think you know.' A croaky voice said, coming from the short fat man. He stepped forward pulling off his hood, he was definitely ugly, he was almost like a ball, his head not protruding from his body very much. He had squinty, watery blue eyes. He had a thin grin on his fat face. A small amount of brown hair sat on his head and a small brown goatee on his chin.

The tall one stepped forward pulling off his hood, he had ivory coloured skin and emerald green eyes. Black hair sat flat against his head.

The girl stepped forward and pulled off her own hood, revealing copper hair and a freckled face. Red eyes glared at the four travellers.

The final person didn't pull his hood off but stood slightly behind his companions, though the shadows seemed to stretch toward him.

'Wendol, Birce and Seah.' Hieme growled, saying their names in order that they stepped forward.

'Whose your friend?' Lance asked, he was middle height and medium to large build. Spiky green-black hair that reaches down past his shoulder blades and an angular, face frames a short, pointed nose and sharp green eyes. He has olive skin with a beauty mark under his left eye.

'I'm sure you know him very well.' Birce answered mysteriously.

'Now tell us what you want.' Feri demanded stepping forward, pointing her sword at them.

'You'll find out.' Wendol said, then suddenly the shadows seemed to lift up off the ground and form figures, they grew into human size and weapons formed in their hands. Their bodies were made of purple and black darkness. They advanced on the four.

'I'll go first.' Masto said walking forward, bouncing his ball on the ground and back to his hand.

Some of the shadow creatures stepped forward brandishing their weapons.

One of them lunged at Masto, he spun out of the way and launched the ball at the creatures back, it fell onto the ground. It got up off the ground and charged Masto again, this time Masto threw his ball in the air, he ducked under the sword swing, then kicked his ball back into the air with his foot mid duck. The ball came back and he head butted it at the creatures face, the ball had gone into the air again. When it came back down Masto leapt up and kicked it at a wall. It went flying at the wall with ridiculous speed, leaving a mark where it hit. The ball bounced around the street smashing into the shadow creatures. All the while Masto dodged both the ball and the creatures.

Only two remained, so when the ball came flying past Masto's face he elbowed it, sending the red ball, rebounding off the creatures head, over Masto's ducked head and into the creature behind him. Masto caught the ball and walked off to stand by his companions.

The fallen enemies dissolved into shadows. The hooded man was just starting to pant. He held out hid hands and more creatures appeared. This time Hieme stepped forward.

She was slim and medium height, her long brown blonde hair was braided at the base and stretched down to her hips, but tied into a pony tail of sorts with a tie, swinging in different directions as she walked, she had lightly tanned skin and hazel eyes.

As Hieme walked forward the shadow creatures circled around her. Brandishing their weapons, but stopped stock still as Hieme began to sing.

'La da, dee da da dee da.' She sang, she swung her hips and started dancing, the creatures seemed to laugh at her, or look confused as too why their opponent was a girl and that she was singing and dancing.

She moved her hips side to side quickly in time to her song that seemed to have repeated itself quickly for a short moment, then she thrust her hip out to one side quickly, as her voice made a short sharp 'ha'. Her hips picked up the pace and she began to walk in a small circle.

The creatures uncertainty had passed and they moved in closer. Hieme swung her head in a circle, her hair flailing out to the side of her and the creatures jumped back to avoid the tight plaits. Hieme's dance and song increased in pace, and she swung her hips faster, Hieme repeated one of the words quickly, this time moving her hips slightly forward in time with the repetition. Behind her one of the creatures ran forward swinging it's sword wildly. Hieme snapped her finger in it's direction, the sound sent it flying back into one of the walls, it slid off the wall and dissolved into shadows on the cobblestone.

Hieme kept up her song and dance as she fought, fighting in time to the music, occasionally increasing her pitch to send a few creatures back.

She snapped her fingers in two different directions, sound erupted from her fingers, flying at the two unfortunate fell to the ground screaming in pain. The sound didn't seem to affect her companions, it looked like she was snapping her fingers, dancing and singing, beating the creatures like that.

Hieme looked at the two she had just sent flying with absolute hatred, snapping her finger's right next to their ears. They dissolved into shadows on the spot.

Another one ran at her and, still dancing, Hieme swung her hips in it's direction, sending waves of sound flying at it, smashing it into the wall.

Hieme walked back to her companions and tapped Feri on the back, who stepped forward.

More shadow creatures appeared. Feri stepped forward again and held her sword up in a ready position.

They rushed her all at once, Feri swung her sword in in a slash in front of her, slicing open the first few creatures. Shadows pored from their bodies, which soon fell to the ground.

Her sword morphed into an axe and she smashed open the nearest shadow's head. The axe became double ended axe, she spun it above her head and threw it at the nearest shadow, it went down and Feri leapt at the axe, font flipping over the body, grabbing the weapon in her hands as she flipped over the body, it morphed into a broadsword and when Feri landed on her feet, she brought the huge sword in an arc, cutting a shadow in half down the middle.

The huge sword morphed into two long katanas. The swords moved in a blur, blocking the shadows attacks and killing them with ease. It looked like an intricate dance, which had no predictable pattern, she seemed to leap at the nearest shadow, her swords devouring the doomed creature.

Feri stood ready to face the next shadow, but there was none left, Feri had defeated them all. She stepped back in line with the other three.

'We should just kill them ourselves.' Wendol growled to Seah.

'No, give Nyt one more chance.' She replied, and at the word Nyt Hieme and Lance's eyes widened in shock.

'You...you betrayed us.' Hieme exclaimed.

'He can't here you, he's in a trance. Something he drank I think.' Birce snorted.

Wendol smiled evilly in response.

'He ratted you all out, to save his own skin, we're here to test out his information. So far everything seems correct.' Seah explained, she smiled and more shadow creatures appeared.

'I'll take these ones.' Lance said, stepping forward and pulling out his chunk of metal.

The creatures charged him, Lance moved the chunk of metal in arc in front of him, it melted as he moved it. It solidified and sharpened into a curved blade. Which Lance sent flying into the creatures, slicing them in half. The ones at the front were doomed but the back ones jumped over the blade. The blade came back to Lance's side.

The creatures started swinging their swords and axes wildly. Lance moved his hands, the blade following his movements. Blocking and slashing through the enemy. Lance jumped back and the blade melted into liquid metal again, this time forming into tiny little metal balls.

'Aes sphaera.' he whispered and the balls sped toward the shadows, the balls shot holes through the shadows, Lance guided the balls movements with his palm. One of shadows attacked him from behind, Lance back flipped over the top of the creature, the balls rushing to his hand. Forming a long curved blade, which Lance thrust through the shadows head.

That was the last Shadow, and Nyt had nearly collapsed in exhaustion from the effort it took to summon so many creatures.

'Wendol growled and stepped forward, holding his hands out.' Seah put her hand out, Wendol glared at her but lowered his hands.

'We shall settle this later.' She said to him.

Then they disappeared.

'We should get back to Bura.' Lance observed. The four people also disappeared.
