13. Chapter 12 The Ice Man

A lone figure sat on an iceberg south of the endless ocean. His legs were crossed, his hands were placed on his knees and his eyes were closed. The only thing he wore, a pair of plain shorts. He didn't feel the cold, like normal people. But then again, he wasn't normal, he never had been. He went swimming in frozen lakes, hiking bare foot in knee deep snow.

The cold had no claim over him, in fact he preferred the cold. Heat was something to be despised, besides, the heat is dangerous, you can develop skin cancer, you could have a stroke. Though the cold was just as dangerous. Frost bite and pneumonia were the main killers.

The man stood up and opened his eyes. Gazing at the water and ice around him, he glanced at the two seals that played with each other under the water. They flicked their flippers towards him, beckoning him into the water.

He took a deep breath and dived into the icy cold water. Already he could feel the cold strengthening him, his muscles hardening even more then they already were, . He had been living in the south for ten years. The seals darted around him, nuzzling him and playing tag. He swam after them, deeper and deeper into the sea. His ears popped and his lungs began to burst. He nodded at the seals and they dragged him back up to the surface so he could take another lung full of air.

Glacieus climbed back up onto the ice and surveyed the ocean, it was peaceful, the occasional ripple became regular bubbles popping on the surface, the seals had disappeared and a spray of water had just breached the waters surface. Glacieus frowned and peered into the water, a dark shape was swimming closer and closer. Realising what it was just in time Glacieus jumped to another iceberg just as a huge killer whale smashed through the water surface, it slid back into the water, and crashed through the iceberg Glacieus was standing on a fraction of a second earlier.

Glacieus jumped over to the next iceberg as the beast jumped up, it was definitely targeting him. In that millisecond pause, the Killer whale burst through the ice Glacieus was standing on, knocking him off and into the water.

The creature was huge, easily as long as the Faran War ships. It swam at him with its mouth gaping open.

'Stiria Fragor!' Glacieus tried shouting, the water stopped him from getting it to loud but the spell still took hold. A blue magic circle appeared in front of Glacieus's thrust forward hands, and a huge chunk of ice flew out of it and smashed into the Killer whale's mouth. The spell stopped the Whale's movement but it's only other purpose seemed to make it angry.

The whale charged Glacieus again, Glacieus managed to swim out of the way of the Whale, using the time to take a breath.

He gulped in the sea air, then dived back into the water.

'Hastam Glácies.' Glacieus yelled, he put his palms together in front of him, the tips of his fingers facing down. A blue magic circle appeared in front of him and thin spears of ice shot from it, stabbing into the whale, blood floated out and spread out in the water. It screamed in pain and anger, wildly charging Glacieus.

'Glácies spiritus!' Glacieus shouted, a beam of ice shot from the magic circle in front of Glacieus's magic position. It sped toward the Whale and passed through it's body. No physical damage showed on the Whale's exterior. It seemed to realise this and began to swim toward Glacieus but froze up, it's eyes showed no fear, only anger as the magic took affect. The blood inside of the whale was beginning to freeze up, The blood that was poring out of it's wounds began to freeze up. It froze in place, and began to sink down to the bottom of the ocean, dead.

Glacieus's lungs had just about reached their limit and Glacieus only just broke the surface, sucking in all the air.

A girl in a pink fluffy dress and combat boots stood on one of the icebergs, looking down at him in distaste.

'It's about time you joined us, Glacieus.' She said, her arms were crossed in front of her chest and her long blue hair cascaded down over her shoulders.

'I don't think I know what you mean, besides shouldn't you be with that Oak, fella?' Glacieus asked.

'You do know what I mean, get your skinny butt out of the water and back to Bura.' She snapped.

'Make me.' Glacieus replied.

'You realise what your swimming in.' Wela said coolly, sudden realisation dawning upon Glacieus .

'Yeah, not a smart thing to say.' Wela added. She smirked and held out her hand, the water began to bubble, a huge pillar of water shot out, throwing Glacieus into the air. Another came up and smacked him onto the ice at Wela's feet.

'I made you, now get up and either come with me or go to Bura.' She said shortly, tapping her feet impatiently.

'Fine I'll come with you.' Glacieus replied, and without a word Wela launched herself at Glacieus, melting his body into hers.

She got up off the ice and dived into the water, melting herself into it and instantly reforming in the little river.

Emelra had left, but that didn't matter, Glacieus fell out of Wela's body coughing water out of his mouth.

'Warn me next time.' He spluttered.

'OAK! WELA DISAPPEARED!' Emelra shouted as she ran back to camp. Oak simply sat there, not looking even a little bit surprised.

'She'll be back, just let her blow off some steam.' Oak replied calmly, he sat fiddling with a dead flower, he gently blew on it and it flourished and came back to life, he held it a little above the ground, the roots extended and dug themselves into the dirt. The flower was gently pulled into place, it stood proudly, displaying its blue petals to all.

'But she melted, into the stream.' Emelra explained, not as frantic, but still worried.

'She hasn't done that in a while, I almost forgot she could.' Oak replied, admiring his handy work.

'Oh, well, never mind then.' Emelra said, sitting down and helping herself to a bit of dinner.

'Guess who I found lying around?' Wela asked as she appeared from the direction Emelra had just come. A man of about middling height stood next to her. He wore almost nothing, except for a pair of shorts, he was dripping wet.

'GLACIEUS!' Rosemary and Oak yelled jumping up.

'Hello.' He said feebly, Oak and Rosemary rushed towards him bombarding him with questions.

'Where have you been?'

'What were you doing?'

'Wait a minute, can I just rest a moment, travelling Wela's way is very, um, traumatic.' He interrupted.

'Well, you must be freezing come sit by the fire and warm yourself up.' Naran patted the seat next to him. Glacieus's eyes widened in fear.

'Glacieus doesn't like heat, he can't feel the cold anyway.' Oak whispered.

'Why not?' Naran pressed, Glacieus took a seat as far away from the fire as possible.

'Because he's the ice Elementalist.' Rosemary finished.

'Wait, I thought you didn't know any other Elementalists.' Emelra asked.

'I lied, I wasn't sure if I could totally trust you yet.' Rosemary said shortly.

Emelra nodded her head as if it was a valid point, Castir certainly didn't think so, if Lavender trusted them, she should've.

'I'm surprised you didn't ask about it when you met these two.' Rosemary added, gesturing to Oak and Wela.

'Rosie, do we have any more space for Glacieus to sleep?' Wela asked.

'Rosie?' Naran questioned.

'My pet name.' Rosemary said shortly, to which Naran and Castir grinned mischievously.

'Don't even think about it.' She added.

The next morning the growing party set out back to TaMor.

The track back was overgrown with bushes and shrubs. They creeped over the dirt that other travellers rarely used. The bushes were massive in size and nearly reached over Thyme's head. It was like a maze, winding through the overgrown bushes and scrub.

A brook trickled nearby, probably feeding into the river that Wela and Emelra had talked at. The track was hard on their feet as they had to walk the horses through the shrubs, making progress agonizingly slow.

'Can't you move the bushes out of the road Oak?' Thyme whined, her feet was dragging in the dirt and she was looking at the ground.

'The roots here are too deep to pick up and move, besides if Mother Nature wanted these bushes moved by me, then she wouldn't have made these bushes enchanted.' Oak replied, at the word enchanted Thyme's head snapped up

'What do they do?' She asked excitedly, Oak chuckled and said.

'Their roots are more tangled, they grow faster then normal and they can't be altered.

'Does that mean fire wouldn't burn through them?' Emelra asked, Oak shook his head.

'Not even fire.'

'How was this track made then?' Castir asked, he was walking in between Wela and Rosemary.

'I guess the bushes just haven't grown over the track entirely yet.' Oak said.

'What happens if we come to a spot that has completely grown over?' Thyme questioned.

'Please stop asking me questions, I want some peace, we will figure that out when the time comes.' Oak answered, and with that all questions and talking stopped.
