1. Memories

The sirens were getting louder and louder, I couldn’t see the ambulances because I was still too short to see out of my bedroom window. I was wondering what was going on down there at the corral, but nobody would answer my calls for help. It was finally quiet and I could hear footsteps in the hallway. My grandma came in the room with tears in her eyes to tell me that my mommy and daddy had died in the accident at the corral. I was too little to understand much, but I understood enough to know that they weren’t coming back and that without my daddy I wasn’t going to survive this disease that the doctors told me I had. “AGHHHHHHHHH!,” I scream. My grandma runs into my room to hold me and calm me down. “It’s just a dream Kaden,” she croons, “everything is going to be alright, it was just a bad dream.” I let her hold me as I cried into her shoulder. She rocked me in her arms to help me fall back asleep, as I was almost asleep she stood up and kissed me on the head and walked out the door. The dream was still fresh in my mind. The dream that reminded me of the worst day in my life, I was only four years old and even now as a seventeen year old I can still remember every little detail of that horrible night. I was finally able to shut my eyes and block out the memory long enough to fall back asleep.
