8. Up Top

When I emerged the most beautiful place anyone will ever see! There is a huge space of long, green grass that stretches maybe 100 feet out. Around the entire grass area there is a path of white stone. To the left is a pond with cattails and animals that look like a cross between baby ducks and kittens. They were adorable. To the left was a white fountain that went up 50 feet in the air, but the water was a funny shade of purple. I couldn't see anything beyond that, it just faded out into a white fog.

I knew what was beyond that white fog though. Beyond was a music house, where people performed music in their own way. I knew where everything was immediately, I don't know how, just like everything else here.

"It's beautiful!" I felt my mouth in a wide o shape.

April looked at me with a puzzled look, "Are we seeing the same thing?"

The man was just over there, smiling. "Yes, you are seeing the same general things. You just see things in different colors and shapes. There is really is a fountain over there and a pond with a path. For example, the fountain color I see is orange, and the animals I see is a cross between chipmunks and swans."

"OK. Well I'm going to the records department. April, are you coming?"

"Huh?" I was still checkin out the view. "Yeah, sure. I got nothing else better to do."

The man told us something that kinda puzzled me. "We will send someone to fetch you when the rest of the girls wake so you can go to boot camp."

I gave him a puzzled look. "Wait, wha-" But I was interrupted by Alice dragging me in the opposite direction of the courtyard. To the other side was a downtown sort of looking thing, but all the buildings were white except for the titles of the stores. I could name everyone of those stores without even thinking, as though I had gone to them every day.

Alice and I both just flew down to another white building at the end of the street. There was a purple sign outside that read: The Secure Records Department of Up Top underneath it read: Open to the Public. Didn't sound very secure to me.

Alice didn't wait to stop to waste time. The second we touched down she just ran straight to the double doors and thrust them both wide open. I dashed after her, "Hey, wait up!"

Inside was very dark, black walls with purple carpets. The ceiling was visible unlike the arrival place. But it was really tall with old, ugly chandeliers. The whole thing was one long hallway with a lady sitting at the top of a really tall counter with double doors on either side, the tall counter had a really bright light that shined down on the lady.

As I tried to keep up with Alice's pace I noticed that there were mirrors about every 15 feet apart on both sides, all different shapes. Some had little tables below. Some were full length. It occurred to me I didn't even know if I looked any different. Alice didn't know she had super long hair. I stopped at a full length mirror and was shocked to see what was staring back at me.

I had mid-back length wavy hair that was bright teal. I still had pale skin but no more freckles. My eyes were something to behold though. they were bright red circled by a thin pink line. Around the pupil was a pink line that spread out to the iris that gave an eclipse sort of look to them. My body looked the same, except that I was about 2 inches taller. I loved my entire look. It took a second for me to get used to it though. At first I thought it wasn't me, but I was glad to find that it really was me.

I came back to my senses and looked down the hall to see Alice looking up at the lady working there. I quickly flew over to her just to hear the last bit of her conversation.

"I would love a that so much, thank you!" Alice looked at her with pleading eyes.

The lady said with a stern voice, "I can't make any promises, so don't get your hopes up just yet." She pulled a phone up next to her ear.

Alice just rocked back and forth and whispered to me, "I love it in here, it really lifts the spirits, but taking into account what that short dude said, we probably are seeing different things, my scene is all yellow and red. How 'bout you?"

I took a look around. "Everything is black and purple, and it's really dark and creepy. By the way, I have a question, Where did the Galaxical Arty come from, that has got to be the lamest name ever!"
Alice shot me an offended look. "The man who discovered the planets was named James Arty! It is considered a great honor to have something named after you, even if you name it after yourself. He was my grandfather. My full name is Alice Samantha Arty! Don't dis him!"

"Sorry." I looked away.

"OK, Just go on in." The old lady pointed to the door to her left. April walked right in with no hesitation. On the inside was a normal looking records department, but it seemed I had seen it before, like it was from a movie. Alice walked in to the desk sitting in the middle of the room.

"Hi, I need some information on a girl who just arrived. I need to know how she died. Her name is Abira Homsol. It is really important, please tell me you have something on her."m

The man looked like mermaid man from spongebob . . . that's it! This records department looked just like the one from the movie RED. And the guy looked just the same guy who kept it.

"Of course I have information on her. Just hang on a second." His face turned from a normal face, to a gruesome face.

"Oh my god, she was tortured!"

Alice looked at him,. "WHAT!!! Let me see! She grabbed the records and looked at them in horror. She was tortured."

"What, what do you mean?" I was really freaked out.

"Well, after I died, she was the only one left of the battle, so instead of killing her, they took her in for questioning. They tortured her for about a month, she eventually died of infection of her wounds. She never gave in. She always was willing to do anything to save anyone, she's much braver than I thought." Alice's face just turned to a look of horror. They did more than just torture her, men did awful things to her . . . sexual things.

I walked over to her and took a look at the records. It wasn't paper like I was expecting, but a video montage, showing what happened to her. She was always kept underground, in a dark, dank cell laying on a wooden bed at an angle with her hands and feet attached to the edge with old fashioned shackles. At one point I saw a man rip off her shirt so it just revealed her bra and force feed her some sparkly orange liquid from a spoon. Then he stabbed her, she screamed. But he didn't stop there. He dragged the knife up to show all her guts. He grabbed a handful, squeezed and threw them down on the floor, all while she is screaming bloody murder. His hand bloodstained from her organs sprawled across the floor. He took the knife and bought it up to her face and slit the skin of her mouth to leave flaps of skin hanging off her face, her jaw dropped a bit. Blood spurting out everywhere, leaving a large pool of blood on the floor and on the man.

I covered my mouth and shut my eyes. "How can she still be alive?"

"Well that liquid they fed her keeps you alive until the effects wear off and they can stitch you back up. It doesn't stop pain, but it will stop any sort of infection until the effects wear off." I could tell Alice didn't cover her eyes.

"I opened my eyes to see a few other people in jumpsuits come in and take her organs, reposition them, and stitch her back up.

"That's enough", I say, snatching the records out of her hands and tossing them back on the desk.

"I don't know about you, but I am leaving!" I yell, turning around and marching out the door. I could hear Alice shouting my name, but I didn't stop. I got out my magic flying purple disk and made a mad dash for the door, pushing out of the way. I flew back to the hospital and landed in the courtyard near the pond. The animals swam up to me, meowing. I put my hands in my pockets to discover bread crumbs. I threw a handful in the pond.

Alice came up next to me and just stood there.

"Hey, you OK? You went off so fast I couldn't ask you."

"Yeah, I'm fine, I just can't handle seeing stuff like that." I didn't turn and look at her.

"I understand. Nor could Abira. I feel really bad that I had to leave her like that . . . I'm going back to check on her."

I turned around. "I'm coming with you, you are the only person I know here." I ran after her.

We got to the front of the hospital, but there was no door. We exchanged glances.

"How do we get in? All the other buildings had doors!" Alice looked panic stricken. I just took a step back.

"Well, since we had to fly out through the top, we probably have to fly in through the top." Alice didn't look convinced. "Think about it. When we first woke up they had to teach us how to fly, so what was the point of the door? Lets just try it." I started flying, closely followed by Alice.

My idea worked. We were back at the hospital. Alice just flew straight to Abira's bed, while I landed and walked there casually. There were two squashy purple chairs already sitting there. I slowly sat down and stared at her. Alice was sitting at the end of the bed, in a way that I couldn't see the expression on her face. We both just sat there in silence for what seemed like a millennia.
