Justin’s POV

She left me shocked on the couch. Even though I knew about her life, at least I thought she had someone at some point. I felt terrible for her, for what she’d gone through.

Somehow I needed to prove it to her that she’s beautiful, worthy and she isn’t just some mistake. I could hear when she poured water in her glass and seconds later but it down on the table. The thing I needed to do next was to talk to Scooter when he comes back. Where was he by the way? He’d been gone for about thirty minutes. I grabbed my phone and sent a text.

‘Where are you? We need to talk.’

I sighed and looked out the window to the dark city of New York. Then I decided to go check up on Allison. When I saw her standing, leaning against the table I could see just the one half of her face. And it looked devastated. Slowly I walked over and grabbed her waist while hugging the back of her head. She jumped up a little – like she wasn’t expecting me.

“How are you?” I asked her and she turned around. I was met by a face full of tears.

“I’ve had better moments... Even though it doesn’t sound true.” Allison forced a smile on her face while looking down. She picked on her nails and studied the tile floor.

“I’m really sorry…” This caught her attention.

“What are you apologizing for? You’re the best thing that’d ever happened to me. Please realize it.” She kept the forced smile on her face while shading a tear. I wiped it away with my thumb and lifted up her chin so she had to look at me. I couldn’t stop thinking about what she’d just said.

I looked her deep in her eyes – exploring them and studying every single color.

“Allison” She looked at me with a little concern in her eyes. “Let me fix you.” She held back tears.

“It’s not possible. It’s too late for me.” She crossed her arms shyly, and looked down next to her.

“Give me a chance?” I asked her looking hopefully in her eyes. But it wasn’t possible to make eye contact. Her full focus was on the tile floor. Allison sighed heavily and lifted her head up looking at me. Then she closed her eyes for a little moment and her lips were moving. Was she praying?

Not long after the front door opened again and in came Scooter with a bag of food.

“Sorry it took so long - night traffic.” He smiled at me before whispering in my ear. “What happened? How is she feeling?”

“Umm… I don’t think that this is the best moment of her life, but she’s okay. I think.” I mumbled the rest with concern in my voice. I really was hoping for that she was alright.

“Allison, it’s food.” I smiled at her. Scooter was already in the living room packing the food up. Just a couple of seconds after I started walking towards the living room I could feel a grip around my wrist. Allison looked at me with her eyes drenched in tears.

“Justin…” She smiled a little. “I can let you try. But it’s not going to be easy in any way.” I knew what she was talking about and right now I just wanted to scream of luck and kiss her. She decided to give me a chance – a chance to make her life better. I leaned towards her ear.

“Thank you.” I whispered with the softest voice before grabbing her hand and leading her in to the living room.

Allison’s POV

I doubted a little after telling Justin that he can try to fix me. Seriously, it’s going to be the hardest thing he have ever done, and I’m not convinced that he’s going to manage to complete the ‘task’. What have I dragged him into? But when I saw how his face just brightened up, I couldn’t take back what I said. I understand that he’s just trying to be nice, but to fix me? No one can.

After a long day and a lovely dinner I decided to go to sleep early. It was half past nine and I was extremely exhausted. I brushed my teeth and brushed my hair before looking up in the mirror. The reflection was very ugly – I hadn’t been using makeup in a very long time so I was natural. And I hated to be natural. It made me look like an old person with no lashes or eyebrows. I needed makeup – and fast too. I smiled sarcastically at my reflection before changing into the oversized t-shirt again. I slid under the duvet and closed my eyes to finally get some rest and forget my worries for a little while. I fell asleep incredibly quickly.

Justin’s POV

I woke up to a soft voice calling my name. I checked the time on my phone. 2:52am. I looked over to the door and saw a familiar silhouette. What was Allison doing awake this time of the night?

“Are you awake?” The same soft voice asked nicely. But it was something different about it – it sounded a bit sad too.

“Now I am.” I smiled a little knowing she didn’t see it. But it was something about her that made me smile. She walked over to my bed, wrapped herself under my duvets before talking.

“I’m sorry I woke you up.” She halfwhispered. Allison was facing the other direction, but for some reason I knew that her eyes were wide open. Carefully I wrapped my arm around her thin body. First very carefully, so she almost didn’t feel it. Then she pulled it tighter and held my hand.

“What’s the matter?” I asked after a little while. Her body shifted position and now her face was facing mine. She looked at me for a little while before looking a bit sad.

“I had a nightmare…” She said in a little shaky tone. “Justin I’m scared. I don’t want to get hurt again.” She looked at me with begging eyes – so strong, yet so helpless.

“You won’t.” I kissed her forehead. “I’ll make sure nothing happens to you.” She smiled slightly while looking towards a wall. “Now tell me about the nightmare.” I made myself comfortable and got ready to listen to her beautiful voice. She sighed and I could tell that she didn’t want to.

“What happens is that you abandon me and I have to go back to school and there…” She shed a tear and her eyes looked at me, begging.

“Shh, it’s okay. I’m here. Go on.” I gently stroke her cheek and she continued.

“They… The boys they…” She took a long pause. “Justin I can’t go on.” Three tears was streaming down her cheeks and I couldn’t do anything else than feel sorry for her.

“Please continue.” I softened my voice to the total teddy bear voice. First she looked confused but she kept talking after that.

“They do things… And when they’re done with me they tie me up and in come Alexandra, Tabitha and her gang. All holding knives and staring at me with a sly smile on their faces. They stab me but leave me alive.” She was on the edge of a breakdown.

“I would never abandon you.” I started to talk out a little part of my feelings. “You mean so much to me.” She looked shocked. Her mouth was wide open and her multicolored eyes were shining.

“Justin, no one likes me. I’m a disgrace to the human race.” She wrapped her hands around her pillow holding back tears. I couldn’t disagree more. She was a wonderful human being; I had to prove it to her somehow. I got the best idea in the world and I just needed a couple of days to make it come to life. A smile appeared on my face while I closed my eyes and pulled Allison’s body closer to mine. She laid her head on my chest. It was so quiet, I could hear her heartbeats. I just wished this moment never ended. Both of us drifted away to safer dreams.
