Nerd Girl

Emiline Martin. She is smart, quiet and the biggest of all nerds. When she starts her own story about her own life and what she had always dreamed would have happened and it gets published she has a lot of readers, even from her bad boy crush. When he falls behind on his grades she will have to be there to tutor him. In the end will he finally discover that her story is actually about him? Or will she have to spell it out for him?

His name is Dylan, I really like him. The way he talks, the way he walks and the way he just is. But it would never work. He is popular. That's just how the world works I guess. Strong parents choose a strong mate so their offspring will have a better chance at survival. It just goes that way. I can't change it, only the world can. But don't get your hopes up. Hope breeds eternal misery.

2. Him

I got in the bus this morning in a happy mood. I finally started my story last night and finished some of the first chapter.

Title: Nerd Girl

Chapter: One

His name is Levi, I really like him.

I stood by my locker and watched as him and his group of misfits walked down the hall. I don't understand why he hung out with them all of the time, he seemed so different from them. My friends always told me that he was not the somebody that I should like. But I don't even care. I like him and that was all there is to it.

I walked to first period and sat in my spot right in front of him and waited for the teacher to arrive.

That's all I had so far. I was going to see what happened today and maybe add some of it into the book.

I hurried to my seat next to Fay and sat down.

"Hey. Whatcha got there?" She asks pointing to the black book in my hands.

"Just the book I'm writing." I smile.

"Can I read it?" She reaches for it but I pull away.

"Not yet. It's barely started."

When we get to the school, everyone pours out of the bus like a mob and go their seperate ways. I walk with Fay to our lockers. Her's is only three away from mine. I get my locker open as Kaitlin walks over.

"Hey." She says holding her books with her right hand while moving a piece of her hair out of her face with her left.

"So about prom." She says.

Me and Fay look at her. "What about it?" I ask.

"I won't be joining you guys. I'm sorry. I just got asked last night."

"Who are you going with?"

"Danni." She smiles.

I shut my locker and lean against it, pretending to listen to their conversation as I watch Dylan at his locker.

"Em." Kaitlin says. "Em." She says louder. I turn to her. "Were you even listening."

"Yeah." I lie.

Fay looks over to where I was looking. "No you weren't. You were too distracted by football player over there." She smiles.

I smile back. "So. A girl can't dream?" I laugh.

We walk to our first class, Math.

The teacher walks in and everyone sits down. "Dylan, Emiline. Can I talk to you two please?" She asks.

We both look at each other, then walk up to the teacher's desk.

"Dylan, you're failing this class." She says.

He looks down. "I know."

"If you don't get your grade up, you won't be playing football for a while. Now, Emiline, I want you to tutor him. Got it?"

I nod and he nods.

"Starting today okay?" She asks. I nod. "Okay, you guys may go sit down again."

I am smiling so big inside. I walk past Fay and secretly give her a small low five on the way back to my seat.

After school I go to my locker and get my books. As I shut my locker door, there is Dylan, already waiting for me.

"So are we going to your place?" He asks. I nod.

It was a long and quiet walk but we finally arrive at my house. I unlock the door and we enter. He walks in and looks around.

"Where are your parents?" He asks turning to look at me as I put my keys in the glass bowl by the door.

"They're always on business trips, they're gone for a week." I say.

I don't think he noticed that I saw him, when he turned around and smiled.

I start to walk up the stairs and stop when I realize he isn't coming. I turn around and he is looking up at me from the bottom of the stairs.

"Coming?" I ask.

"Uhh, yeah." He says and starts walking up the stairs.

When I get into my room, I start taking stuff out of my bag and setting it on my desk. I take off my scarf and my jacket. He just stands there awkwardly with his hands in his pockets.

I dig through my drawer until I find something comfortable to wear. 'I'll be right back." I say walking into my personal bathroom. It is connected to my room.

When I come out, Dylan looks up from his phone and just stares at me. I put my dirty clothes in my hamper and sit down on my bed. Dylan is still standing there all awkward. I sit criss cross.

"You know you can sit down?" I gesture to the other end of my bed.

He slowly makes his way over and sits down. "Take your book out and open to page 33, please." I say to him.

He does so. As I am finding the page that he is already on he just looks at me. And stares at me.

I find the page and look up, why is he still looking. "What?" I ask.

"Nothing." He says looking down. "You just look different."

"Well, I hope that's a good thing." I smile. He smiles.

"Yeah." He mumbles.

After a while of studying, I offer up a break. We go down stairs and get a snack and some water. We are both standing by the sink.

"So...what do you do in your free time?" He asks me as I take a sip of water.

I pull the glass away from my lips and close them to think. "Usually, I just write." I say. "Why what do you do?" I ask.

"Usually, I draw." I nod.

He looks around. "Don't you get lonely in your house all of the time?" He asks.

I shake my head no. "Not really, it's quiet so I have time to myself." He nods.

"Sounds peaceful. I never get quiet in my house."

"Well, maybe you should come over more often then." I say.

"Yeah, maybe I should."

***

"Goodbye. Have a nice night, Emiline." He says.

"Have a nice night, Dylan." I say.

That was the end to a perfect night.

As I was about to shut the door he stopped me. "Wait."

I open the door. "Yeah?" I ask.

"Can I have your number?" He asks. I stand there not knowing what to say. "You know, so we can set up some more tutoring days."

I nod and hand him my phone. He hands me his. We switch numbers and then hand them back.

"Well, bye again." He says.

"Bye again."

I go back to writing my book. I now knew how I was going to finish the chapter.
