Chapter Seven

Snow

I woke early the next morning; anxious to meet this Rebecca. The sun was barely coming through the windows. I got up anyway and went into the kitchen. I put the tea kettle on the stove and waited impatiently for it to whistle. As I was waiting I heard someone upstairs get up, Luna's mother presumably. I heard the kettle and went to retrieve it, my thoughts on Rebecca I didn't hear my aunt come in.

"Morning Snow, are you as excited as I am?" I turned, startled at my aunts entrance.

"Uh yes extremely."

"She sounds mysterious doesn't she? I mean exiled for unknown crime?"

"Sounds fishy not wolfy." I joked.

"Very funny Snow, well I must be going now. The airport is always busy."

"See you soon Aunt Dianna." I went back to my tea cup and glanced at the letter Dianna had left behind. It was signed; With Discretion, Rebecca. Curious I picked up the letter written on parchment and read through Rebecca's impeccable cursive writing.

"Dearest Dianna,

I pray you still keep your good faith in me when I tell you my crimes. I fear they are almost equivalent to those of your mother Ana. I fell in love with that of a human. It is deeply forbidden here in the United Kingdom I'm afraid once the wolf announces itself once more after the birth of the Guardian. I tried to keep the truth of my love secret, pretending I loved one from another pack. It did not last long. My cousin Izra caught me one evening sneaking out to a local human club, and found me there in the midst of snogging my boyfriend Ethan, Izra enraged at my treachery to the pack, killed Ethan right then and there, he pulled me from the club by my hair, I didn't even have the time to shift forms. He dragged me to Castle Sherwood where our Elders reside. There the Elders and Council stripped me of my wolf and exiled me to the Academy of Protectors. For the longest of times I felt as if I had done no wrong, and then I learned our laws and why they are put there. Humans once tried to kill us off, the Guardians refusing to believe we really were just that, Guardians. As I learned the more I wished I could time travel and take back ever going with Ethan. But it is too late for that and Ethan is now six feet deep and his murder still unsolved. So now, I feel obligated to tell you the truth at your kind offer of accepting me as your new Protector, I hope your young Guardian are as accepting of my history as you. I wish only to be professional, I am not there for friendships merely to be of assistance when needed and of course protect them and carry out the Mating Rituals. I hope to see you soon.

                                   With Discretion, Rebecca"

"What are you reading?" I jumped spilling my tea everywhere, including the letter. I looked behind me and saw Luna standing there, her feet bare, and she was still in her flannel sleep shorts.

"Jesus, Luna you scared me."

"I scared the great and powerful Snow?" Luna giggled. When she saw I was serious she stopped and sat down a crossed from me. "In all seriousness, what were you reading?"

"A private letter."

"Addressed to you?"

"No."

"You said it was private? Who's is it?"

"Auntie Dianna." I said looking down at my now righted cup.

"Snow! That's private property! So what's it say?"

"Rebecca, she told Aunt Dianna why she was exiled. Word for word. She felt like it was here obligation to do so. Dianna, requested Rebecca."

"What? I thought the Protectors were pre-assigned. I thought that you couldn't choose the Protector."

"Dianna made her case, and Rebecca was the only available graduate at the time I guess."

"Huh. My mother keeping secrets." Luna looked at me and we both started laughing.

"God you girls are extremely loud." Lycan groaned at he shuffled shirtless into the kitchen.

"Morning Lycan." Luna said cheerily. Making Lycan groan all the more. "Oh you are not a morning person." Luna pouted.

"Its alright. I'm sorry about his temper in the morning. He has nightmares,"

"About, the Death Sleep exchange?" Luna whispered, I nodded in agreement before Lycan turned around.

"Morning sweetheart. Did you sleep alright?"

"Like a log." Lycan grumbled as he slumped into a chair closest to me. "How did you sleep?"

"Fine. Actually I woke up because I'm super excited to meet this Rebecca. She sounds so mysterious."

"She sounds like trouble to me." Lycan said.

"Perhaps she was justified."

"Really, unspeakable crimes that can't  be disclosed to her employers?"

"The Protectors are our employers Lycan." Luna said. "Anyway are you going to tell Lycan?"

"Tell me what?"

"Rebecca wrote a letter to Aunt Dianna. Dianna left it on the table and I saw and my curiosity got the better of me."

"So read it to me." Lycan pressed.

"Fine:

'Dearest Dianna,

                                   With Discretion, Rebecca'

You see she regrets what she did, but they won't return her wolf to her."

"Snow, once a Guardian is stripped, the wolf is destroyed forever. There is no returning the wolf because the wolf is dead." Luna said sadly. "Sucks doesn't it? A good motivation not to break their laws." Luna continued sadly. "Unfortunately my relationship with Echo is just as frowned upon as shacking up with a human. The Supreme Elders Council will have a hay day with me."

"They can't be able to do this to us." I said sadly. "We're not their slaves."

"Unfortunately yes we are." I heard someone say from the door way. My mother, Nina walked in and sat next to Luna. This was the first time she's spoken to me in months. "When we were created, God and Lucifer decided we needed a leader or leaders. So they called forth the Protectors, a race of Humans with extended life spans. Through the years the Guardians muddied the roles and the Protectors became just that Protectors not Leaders. They assisted us and protected us when people became suspicious, then of course their laws stated that they are the leaders and we are the followers. So far God and Lucifer haven't clarified. Not that I think they will. They've been dormant for a very long time. This violence, blood shed; its all the humans doing." my mother looked down and I knew she believed every word she said. "Snow, I'm sorry I've been so angry.  You fulfilled the Sacred Promise and that is special. My mother was a traitor and I see that now."

"Its fine mom, I understand. What's the point of being an Alpha if I can't be my own leader?"

"Oh for the most part we're the leaders, but when it comes to prophecies and such its up to them. We can't engage in major battles without their approval."

"Oh that isn't too bad," I heard stirring from up above and quickly hid the letter where I had found it. I looked at the time, 11:55 am. Rebecca is due here in less than a half hour.

"Lycan, Luna, let's go for a run. Mom, do you want to come?"

"I'd love to."

One Hour Later:

"Lycan, are they here yet?" I asked, since he was the one with super hearing.

"No, not yet Snow, sorry."

"Its fine. I thought they'd be here by now. Our half hour run, was a half hour ago." I said, slouching into the couch as Luna browsed the DVD's.

"How about the movie, "THE RING" as she held  up the case the door opened,

"Now that's creepy." Accalia yawned. "I bet its Rebecca and Dianna."

"Or me."

"Tyler! Oh you're back. Thank God! So, there's a new All Powerful One?" Accalia exclaimed as she threw her arms around the newly arrived Tyler.

"To a degree. I'm still the APO but the one I left in charge has the main title. I give him orders and he keeps the Unspeakables on our end of the globe in check."

"Cool." Lycan said. In his own way that's show appreciation.

"So is the Protector here yet?"

"No. Not yet." Echo said as she skipped down the steps. "I made lunch if anyone wants any. I wonder what's keeping them."

"Crowds probably. Its Thanksgiving weekend."

"That's right, everyone's family will be flying up. Hey! Is that a car?" Luna said.

"They're here!" I said, jumping up, and racing out the doors. My pack followed shortly after me and as Aunt Dianna climbed from the car, a beautiful girl with a scar going down in a line of symmetry down her face climbed from the passenger side; she had long red hair, extremely pale skin, and light green eyes the color of sea foam, she couldn't have been more than 5'4 in height, she wore checkered black and white converse, a short black skirt, ripped hot pink leggings, and a mickey mouse head band, her shirt was like a vortex of color. This had to be Rebecca; a lost soul, without her wolf so she turned-Emo a cry for attention if you ask me, and she's supposed to protect us?

"Prophecy Children, this is Rebecca Reed, of the London Division. She's your new Protector.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Luna and this is Echo, Snow, Lycan, Tyler, and Accalia."

"There are six of you? The prophecy only foretells five."

"We added an extra." Echo said quietly.

"He's my mate." Accalia snipped.

"Ah, and who's the Alpha?"

"I am." I said walking forward.

"Snow?"

"Yes, that would be my name short stuff." I said, taking advantage of my 5'7 frame. I let my fangs slide out over my lip, "Don't forget it." I whispered in her ear. I heard Lycan chuckle, I whipped around,"You think this is funny...darling?"

"What? No not at all my lovely Alpha."

"You are?"

"Lycan, the Alpha Male and Snow's mate."

"You don't mate within the pack though you..."

"Leave it Rebecca, it has been written in the stars." Dianna said, her eyes flashing their wolf yellow. "Let's go and meet the Elders."

"Oh yes. The Elders!"

"They cannot return your wolf...no one can Rebecca."

"I know that Dianna." Dianna tugged on Rebecca's sleeve and they disappeared.

"Snow, what was that all about?"

"She dresses like she's twelve! She's supposed to be our Protector! Can't she be dressed in a more serious way?"

"Just because Placksworth was also the Principle doesn't mean all the Protectors share the fashion sense of pant suits." Luna snapped.

"I agree with Snow. She doesn't seem very professional." Lycan said.

"You agree with everything Snow says or does!" Luna snapped.

"ENOUGH!" I screamed, the power of the Alpha flooded my voice making them cower. "I am the Alpha and you do not have the right to contradict my actions. I have saved your asses countless times, how dare you question my judgement? Lycan is your leader as much as I am contradict us again, or go against direct orders and you will be punished to the highest degree. Am I understood?" My pack shook their heads up and down in agreement and I stormed off, Lycan in tow.

"That was a bit harsh, don't you think Snow?" I stopped walking for a moment and turned to him.

"Harsh? They are a bunch of disrespectful brats!"

"They're teenagers! You're a teenager! I'm a teenager! We were thrust into this gig, and now you're expecting us to just fall into our roles in the supernatural world?" Lycan cried, using his hands as ways of visual explanation.

"You're right Lycan we are teenagers. We are part of the supernatural world, but we are powerful beings that need discipline to survive! If we don't learn now, how would the pack survive when we're cast out to be on our own with just our parents to guide us? What happens when they become Elders, the Elders become Supreme Council, and we become the Council? We will be nothing to our children if we are not disciplined!"

"You're right Snow, but we just survived a major battle. We lost a friend and brought her back, and now we are replacing Placksworth, with this Emo chick. With a very mysterious past. Don't you think we deserve a break?"

"Not so mysterious actually. Yeah I guess we do. You know what, lets go to the cabin this weekend. It'll be fun to escape for awhile."

"Yes it would be, but we don't know how Rebecca is. She might want to tag along to get to know us."

"I swear if she tries to break us up I'll kill her myself!"

"Dianna is settling it okay? Dianna and the Elders won't let her break us apart."

"But..."

"Rebecca won't be a problem to our relationship." The Lycan said it was as if he would rip her throat out if she even uttered the option.
