"MYNX!" Ker was excited to see her furry friend there sitting patiently on a soft looking green couch in what appeared to be a family room. The lake house was big enough for a family of four to comfortable vacation there. It had all the comforts of home; fireplaces, bedrooms, a kitchen, a basement and bathrooms all running on well water. The house was constructed to be self sufficient, completely off the grid.

"But how did you?" Ker was perplexed, how in the world did her cat get there from the city without the use of incantation?

"Well, I'll be damned. A cat with the loyalty of a dog." Iva's sarcasm was thick in the air as she strut with her bag to the nearest bedroom to start putting her clothes away.

"It's okay Mynx, she didn't mean it." Ker held Mynx close like you would a family member after thinking you were never going to see them again.

Ker felt at home, but it was awkward, Iva didn't seem to say much as she unpacked her things. She went and stood in the doorway of Iva's room, watching as she organized her stuff. Ker held Mynx in her arms and rubbed her chin on the top of his head as she watched.

"So how long are we planning on staying here?"

"Well, living-wise, we are going to need to live here for quite some time. I need to know where we are in reference to the city."

"Why would we be going back to the city after we just escaped?"

Iva seemed to concentrate a cold stare on her suitcase for a moment with her back to Ker in the doorway.

"Because we need to find out why we've been black listed for doing our jobs properly. If I've been targeted, others in the Order might also be at risk." Iva stopped packing and looked up at the ceiling. "What the hell is going on here?" She said quietly to herself. Iva looked over her shoulder at Ker. "We need answers. Now. And I won't get them unless I make a few... personal... visits."

"Well I wouldn't go rushing into the city as soon as possible, at least let the excitement wear off a little."

Iva realized they were still in their disguises.

"We need to train you, your hands are going to get dirty, you are going to kill people for survival. No more keeping your distance with computer screens and mobile phones got it?"

Ker just nodded. This was more serious than she thought. Never in the history of The Order of Assassins had she heard of a hit being made on their own except for the issue of treason.

They came to find that the safe house was enchanted. Food was always stocked in the cupboards. For the winter chill, the fireplace always self ignited around dusk for warmth. After taking a closer look around the house, Iva found a secret door under a large rug that required a welcomed guest's hand print to enter. Underneath was a large underground cellar for training and held weapons along the walls. There was a ropes course, workout equipment, and a small laboratory for chemical mixtures. Perfect for poison formulation. Lastly, there was a sparring room that had a window for viewing. A separate set of stairs led down to a floor beneath revealing a study containing maps.

While Iva searched the hidden areas, Ker lay on the green couch with Mynx purring on her lap. She was reading a book she had found on a shelf until nightfall. She set Mynx aside and rose with a stretch. It didn't take her long to change and get ready for bed.

As Ker lay in her bed that night, she felt warm breath fan over her face. Someone was standing over her but she wouldn't dare open her eyes. Iva wouldn't be so obvious about it.

"I can tell you're awake, Mistress." The voice was deep and masculine. Ker opened her eyes, and there just above her was an odd sight. Something she had only read in stories. A male werecat with bright green eyes was staring back at her. Long dark brown hair brushed his muscled shoulders and his silver skin gleamed gently in the light from the moon.

"Wh-who are..."

"No need to be afraid Mistress, it's me, Mynx. I'm you're guardian, and I need you to be quiet. There's something outside your window watching us as we speak and I would rather take this form before attacking it." A howl could suddenly be heard from the distance.

"There's an enchantment on this place so it cannot come inside, but I'd rather not attract more visitors don't you?" With that Mynx opened the window on Ker's left side and dove through.
