18. Seventeen

I was sitting in my nervously, while picking at my gown. I was waiting to be called up for my diploma. I can’t believe I actually did it I made it through this hell. After this I am moving in with Shay next week that for we can take care of the baby together. Everyone one in my family knows and so does Shay’s mom. Shay’s step dad and mother are getting a divorce, and of course he blames Shay for ruining their marriage. He also said something else but Shay won’t tell me. Oh well, he will when he is ready.

Everything went by in a blur before I knew it I was next. I felt my head get woozy. When I heard my name being called. I slowly got up and walked to the stage. My principle handed my diploma, and whispered, “I am proud of you the most.” I smiled we shook hands and I walked over to other students. I searched the crowed until my eyes landed on Shay. He was smiling as my and mouthed ‘I’m proud of you.’ I love him so much. I heard the principle say, “Congratulations graduating class make us proud!” We all throw our caps up into the air. I watch all the caps fall down. I felt someone pull me into a hug and a kiss on my check.

“I’m proud of you,” he said. I knew it was Shay. “Thanks,” I turned around and kissed him. I heard someone clear their throat. We pulled away. Shay stiffened. I turned around to see Britt. We are kind of like friends, but Shay still doesn’t trust her. I can see why. She made my life miserable for the last three years. “Hey, Brit,” I said.

“Hey, I just wanted to say that I am happy for you two,” she looked at her feet.

“Thanks Brit,” Shay held out his hand to for her to shake it. She took his hand, pulled him into a friendly hug, gave me a hug, then walked away.

“She really did change,” he wrapped his arms around me again.

“Yeah she did,” I smiled.

We went to find our parents to go out to eat I was starving. When we finally found them we saw them talking to the principle. I overheard the principle, “she is the exception to this rule.”

“Glad to hear that,” my mother said.

I pulled Shay over closer to my parents and my dad looked at us, “Okay, Are we ready to go eat?”

We all started walking to the door. We went into the car and drove to a fancy restaurant. We got our seats and sat down. The server took our drink orders and left. “Well, um, me and your father have good and bad news,” Linda told us.

“What is it?” asked.

“Well, I got a new and better job,” my dad said, “but we have to move.”

“New Mexico.”

“Next week.”

I couldn’t believe my dad and Sarah are moving! It’s kind of heart breaking. I’m so used to my dad and Sarah around me. I lived with them my whole life, and they are moving. I won’t see them again. Once we left the restaurant they seemed happy. I guessed it good for them to go their own way. They need to be with each other away from the old memerories. Once I got to Shays apartment we went inside and lay on the couch. "I can’t believe it," he said.

"I know," I replied.

He stood up and faced me. "I was going to do this at the restaurant but I didn’t feel like it was right after your parents said that. I wanted to do it in private." he got down on one knee, took out the box and opened it. It had a beautiful ring inside. "I love you with all my heart. Will you marry me?"

I stared at him in shocked. I couldn’t say anything. He look of hope and hurt was filling his eyes. He was standing up and was about to say something. I jumped up and kissed him. "Yes, I would love to marry you," I said. He smiled and kissed me again.
