Confessions of a Teenage Murder Victim

"Hi. My name is Annabelle Marie Davids. I'm 17 years old, born October 12th 1995, died January 18th 2013. Well, to be brutally honest, I was murdered." Annabelle was your average teenage girl. She had it all; the boyfriend, the parties, the looks and the popularity. Her parents even had the money. Her life was perfect. So why was she killed? With the help of ALIS, the After Life Investigative Squad, Annabelle slowly discovers the bitter and twisted hatred which led to one of her "friends" to murder her.

2. IDD

I moaned heavily as I turned slightly. I was lying in someones arms.

Damn. I must have fainted at Luke's party after too many shots of tequila. I hope I haven't puked on my dress...

'I just had the weirdest dream ever-' I murmured, before breaking off as I opened my eyes. It was the suited guy from my dream. I let out a cross between a scream and a squeal, before shoving myself out of his arms.

He raised his eyebrows at me, slowly standing up and dusting off his suit.

'As I've explained, Miss Davids, you are not dreaming. The dead do not have dreams.' I groaned.

'Could you stop saying that please?' I covered my ears and shut my eyes tight.

'Why? We are all dead here. You should get used to it. The IDD do not have time for people who cannot accept their own soul state.' He said, folding his arms across his chest.

'The ID whata?' I said, my arms falling to my sides as my face creased in confusion.

He sighed, aggravated with me, and turned around, walking across the grey cloud, beckoning for me to follow him.

I hugged myself around my stomach and walked behind him, staring at everything around me with wide eyes. I mean, it's not everyday a girl literally walks on clouds.

'The IDD, aka the Induced Death Department, is the afterlife investigative section of the afterlife. This is where the cases of departed souls are reviewed, and if they are found worthy of being investigated, they are allocated to whichever branch they fall under. Cases such as murder come to our department, though there are other departments, such as the S-Department and the ASCDS. That's the Suicide Dept and the Accidental Self-Caused Death Squadron. There are many other branches of the IDD. You only need to know that you fall under my jurisdiction.'

'Wait. If you work in ALIS, then you think I was murdered?' I squeaked, my nails digging into my crossed arms.

'We do not think. We know and discover.' He said, turning slightly sideways to stare at me, his arms hanging by his sides.

'If you'd care to follow me, we shall inform you of how your case shall be treated from now on.' He started walking away from me again, but I was rooted to the spot.

The only people at that party were friends of mine, people who I knew and trusted.

I sank to the cloud beneath me, staring at the gray beneath my tanned legs.

'Miss Davids, I am on a schedule; believe it or not, you are not the only soul waiting to be investigated-'

'SHUT UP!' I shouted, tears slipping down my face. 'As far as I know, ten minutes ago I was alive, having fun with people who I knew and cared about. Now, you're telling me, one of my best friends killed me!?? Do you expect me to be okay with that?!' I whipped my hand across my cheek, and saw the mascara black tear smudged across my hand.

'Stop whining. There are a lot of people who have died in more horrific and painful ways than you, so you have no right to complain about your situation. Now get up and follow me. I have no time for crying little children.' I glared at him before dragging myself off of the cloud surface and dawdling behind him, his long masculine strides eating up the ground.

Suddenly, he stopped abruptly, and I banged into him. He grabbed me, steadying me, before quickly letting me go and pushing open the door we'd stopping in front of.

I looked up and saw that above the doorway was a white plaque with the words "After Life Investigation Squad" engraved in black lettering.

Inside, a load of people in black suits bustled around, leading confused souls around the room and shouting across computer desks.

'Welcome to ALIS.' He said, gesturing for me to step forwards. I took a deep breath, and wiped away the tear stains from my face before stepping into the room.
