18. Chapter XVIII

“Are we almost there?” I bubbled, excited to remove my blindfold and see where Ashton drove us.

“Nearly.” He beamed.

Six minutes later the car came to a halt. The door swung open and closed, and then after some moments, my side was pulled open, letting a cool breeze blow against my bare legs.

As I climbed out of the vehicle, my jaw dropped, as I had finally removed the blindfold and taken in the surroundings around me.

“Ashton it’s” I paused, my breath taken as I stared in awe at the waterfall in front of me. “Beautiful.” I eventually breathed.

I took a few careful steps forward as the marble sized rocks crunched under my sandals. Within an instant a large body of crystal clear water was in my sight, and I was standing above it all. Ashton came up behind me and held my hand, leading my across and up the stairs, and onto a flattened pile of stone. “Glad you like it.” He whispered.

As I peered down once more, the sound of rushing water filled my ears as I gazed below.

I stood for a good few minutes before a body whizzed beside me and over the edge, taken me by surprise as I gasped, my eyes widening. I crawl down to my hands and knees and peer over the steep rock wall, to see a childish Ashton bomb diving into the water.

“You coming?” He yelled, emerging from underwater and floating on his back as he stared up at me. He was now in only board shorts, the one’s he had worn the previous day in the pool.

I stared dumbfounded, as my eyes trailed his toned body, watching him climb up to the wooden stairs once more. He walked over, ruffling his fingers through his hair, as I stumbled to my feet. “The water’s nice.” He smiled.

“But, you just” I stuttered, lost for words.

He literally jumped off the end without a doubt.

“Come on. I’ll jump with you.” He spoke, interrupting my thoughts, in which I shook my head and brought myself back in reality.

“No?” He quizzed, tilting his head to the side, his eyes fixated on me.

“No. I mean yes.” I smile, peeling off my dress, leaving me only in my bikini.

Thank god them on underneath my dress this morning.

He smiled widely, as his eyes scanned my half naked body.

“My eyes are up here.” I laughed. His cheeks flushed a bright crimson as he stood before me, his body limp. I took a step forward, kissing his cheeks red cheeks before taking a hold of his hand, leading him to the edge of the cliff.

My legs shook beneath me, my nerves taking over as I gripped Ashton’s hand tighter. I took a deep breath in as my eyes scanned below.

“Three.” Ashton began, his height lowering as he slightly bent his knees. I repeated his actions.

“Two.” He chuckled, him and I squatting at the same time, our linked fingers pulling our arms back behind us. I couldn’t help but allow the laugh to escape my lips, thinking of how childish we must look right now.

“One.” He paused. “Jump!” He yelled suddenly, lurking his body forward, pulling mine with me as we flew through the air. After what felt like hours, we crashed into the water, our bodies still close together as we sank. We sank further and further before I kicked my feet and shook my hand out of Ashton’s, scurrying to the surface, the air in my lungs now running low.

As I broke through the water’s surface, I gasped for air, turning around in circles, trying to locate Ashton immediately. His body emerging seconds later, laugher filling his lungs as he swam to me.

A smile crept on my face as I watched Ashton paddle towards me. He reached me and within seconds his lips were on mine, his large hands cupping my cheeks.

He pulled away breathless, slightly from the kiss and slightly because we were underwater for a good minute, he took a hold of my face and caressed his thumb along my cheek, wiping away any droplets of water that may have existed, before blurting, “Emily, will you be my girlfriend?”

“Yes.”  I squeaked, pulling his body towards mine and kissing him once more.
