5. Chapter V

“Em, are you okay?” Ashton asked as we stood in the hallway. I wiped a few tears away and nodded, not trusting my voice to form a complete sentence without choking. He hugged me tightly and kissed my hair, whispering “Don’t listen to them baby you aren’t those bad things they were saying. You are way more.” And I froze.

He called me baby.

“I love you I swear you know that right.” I admitted, but said it in more of a joking way, not wanting him to suspect anything. He likes that other girl.

“Love you more.” He smiled before he dragged me down the hall and into the dressing room.

-

Hours had passed before someone knocked on the door, and as it was pulled open, petite woman with blonde hair stood in the door frame.

“Hey Emily.” She smiled, walking fully into the room and sitting down on a spare chair. “Someone ate a bit too much.” She laughed, taking in the numerous amounts of empty chip packets and soft drink cans that covered the bench and floor.

“That was Emily!” Luke yelled, stuffing the bag of chips he had previously on his lap, behind the couch. I just laughed and shook my head, smiling at their stylist sitting next to me.

“Okay boys I need to get you prepped, Em if you would be able to leave, the show should be on in about half an hour. You’re welcome to go grab a change of clothes, I have it hung up in my room for you.” She explained, and it was then I realised I was still in the clothes I had been sleeping in.

Gross.

I said my goodbyes and wished them luck before I left the room, and headed down the hall towards the last door on the right. I walked in and shut the door, quickly getting changed into the jeans and white cardigan set out for me before heading towards the double doors, leading to the crowd.

I took a deep breath and pushed through, instantly being overwhelmed at how many girls were there. I made my way to the middle of the crowd, against the barrier.

I was pushed and shoved quite a bit, not that it bothered me much I was used to this, but it wasn’t until someone tapped my shoulder before I actually turned around.

“Hey it’s you!” I yelled over the crowd to the familiar girl standing in front of me. “Thank-you.” I smiled.

“No no of course! No one deserves to be called those things. My names Maddie.” She smiled back, holding out her hand.

I giggled and pushed her hand away and gave her a hug, giving her a shock. She finally hugged back and I pulled her beside me, so she could grab the barrier to my left.

“My names Emily.” I spoke, staring straight ahead at the drum kit where Ashton would be sitting in a matter of moments.

“I know.” She laughed, “I’ve wanted you and Ashton together since I first saw you two at one of their first ever concerts.”

“Oh. Thank-you.” I laughed with her. “Hey can I have your phone?”

She gave me a weary look before I rolled my eyes and grabbed her phone, typing my number in and handing it back to her. “Text me whenever.” I smiled.

“Okay.” She widely grinned back, giving me another hug. My phone vibrated in my back pocket and I whipped it out, quickly scanning the text before texting a quick smiley face back and shoving it in my pants pocket once more.

“They’ll be on in five.” I reassured her, watching as she nervously scanned the stage and the sides.

“How do you know? Oh right duh” She laughed loudly.

“Luke texted” I smiled.

“Luke.” She sighed, staring at the spot he would be standing in in a matter of minutes.

“Someone’s got a crush.” I laughed, nudging her side. She immediately went bright red.

Suddenly the lights dimmed and the crowd roared, as the four boys came running out and waving at everyone. I locked eyes with Luke and he winked, causing me to laugh before he yelled, “GOOD EVENING SYDNEYYY” Girls screamed back.

Maddie’s body slumped next to me as she stared between him and me, and I wrapped an arm around her, telling her he’s like a brother. Her body relaxed and she laughed, whispering in my ear “I swear I love him.”

“Maybe I’ll introduce the two of you.” I smiled and I swear she nearly starting crying.

I locked eyes with Ashton and he smiled widely at me, but like he’s never done before. Somethings different with him. Calum stared at me, then Ashton and then back to me, and made a heart with his fingers. I laughed hysterically and Ashton threw a bottle of water at his head, before smiling at me once more and speaking into the microphone.
